1954 Cadillac Eldorado with Wind Wings

I am now listing the second 1954 Eldorado from the barn estate that I recently purchased. I was going to keep this car to restore it but it must go. I believe that this is an excellent car to restore. It has the extremely rare wind wings, which are flat pieces of glass on either side of the windshield. Most people that are seeking this car are after this option because it seems to be only on early production cars for that model year. This car was originally white and the data tag shows it as an early production car. This car has a pristine fiberglass hard boot, which was only available on Eldorados. This was number 111 of the 2150 Eldorados produced in 1954.
The family that I purchased this car from told me that the car was purchased in San Antonio, Texas. We have receipts here from as early as 1963, and registrations from as early as 1960. This car along with the other 1954 Eldorado was driven into the barn around 1985, and that is the last sticker on the license plate. I have extensive documentation and owner history on this car.
Here are some bullet points about the car:
  • Correct black steel floor mats for a 1954 Eldorado.
  • Original tag on the cowl and door jamb.
  • Both headlight bezels included.
  • Motor is locked up from long storage.
  • All Eldorado specific trim included, except for the gold crest on the top of both doors.
  • Four Sabre wheels with center caps and coronas included.
  • The lower rear rockers behind the back wheels are rusty.
  • Trunk is solid.
  • There is a rust hole by where the left rear passenger's feet would be.
  • Very solid with no rust under the convertible back seat.
  • Convertible is in usable condition for a driver.
  • Correct wiper arms.
  • Extra rear center section for the bumper will be included as the one on the car is dented in the center.
  • Excellent rear bumper ends with no rot or damage.
  • Jack and spare tire included.
  • Excellent top frame.
  • There is some damage on the fenders as well as the driver's door that can be fixed.
  • Nice front windshield.
  • Excellent chassis.
  • The original owner or dealer added air condition.
  • Immaculate sun visors, which are key to a 1954 Eldorado.
  • It is truly worthy of a restoration, but will require effort. Some have sold for over $100k at auction.
Worldwide shipping can be arranged. We have a Cadillac salvage yard here specializing in 1950-1964. If there are any parts would like included with the car, please call me to discuss. We can also store this car for you until Hershey or Carlisle. Please inquire.

Cadillac CT6 styling will be evolutionary, not like Elmiraj

Wed, Dec 17 2014

Well, this is at least a little disappointing. It turns out Cadillac's long-awaited flagship, the CT6, won't be ushering in a wholesale change in the company's design. That's coming from GM Design guru Ed Welburn, meaning it should be taken as gospel (unless of course he's just trying to hoodwink us). "It'll be different and it will certainly stand out in the portfolio," Welburn told Automotive News. "But you won't see a real shift in direction." Instead, Art and Science will be shown in yet another new form, and will "continue to evolve," according to Welburn, although what that means is unclear. What we can say for certain, though, is that Art and Science on the CT6 will not evolve into the stunning Elmiraj Concept. "I think Elmiraj was more of an influence on some other things we're working on for Cadillac," Welburn said, we're guessing with a smirk and an air of mystery. Considering we have yet to see the CT6, it's hard to tell whether this will be good news or bad, although based on the critical reception to the Elmiraj, we're a little bit disappointed by Welburn's statements. Still, only time will tell whether the styling of the CT6 will really work out.

Ghostbusters' new Ecto-1 is an oddly uninspiring '82 Caddy

Fri, Mar 25 2016

The Ghostbusters, or at least the movie franchise, will emerge from Hollywood's cobwebs this summer, but instead of the iconic 1959 Cadillac known as Ecto-1 that delighted big screen audiences in 1984, the new model may leave some scratching their heads. That's because this latest Ghostbusters draws its vehicular inspiration from a decidedly less interesting period in American automobile production: the 1980s. Starring alongside Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones is a 1982 Cadillac DeVille hearse. The studio dressed up this tired Caddy to look the part, but something's amiss. Instead of the flamboyant fins and shiny chrome, the '82 is decidedly pedestrian and uninteresting. Even in 1982, it was kind of a dull choice for luxury car buyers. There's a reason Murilee Martin deemed the '70s and '80s the "malaise era." Built a couple of years before the original, Academy Award-winning Ghostbusters hit cinemas, the '82 DeVille represents one of Cadillac's lowest points bar the Cimarron. Under its hood might be Cadilac's new-for-1982 HT 4100 V8 engine, which featured what the brand referred to as "digital" fuel injection. With 135 horsepower and 190 pound-feet of torque, the DeVille didn't win stoplight races back then. Oddly, the V6 engine that came standard in the '82 Sedan DeVille produced the same horsepower but delivered an extra 15 torques, which made it both faster and more fuel efficient than the V8. These were bad times for General Motors, clearly, but the gas engines paled in comparison to Cadillac's first diesel. The company's LF9 5.7-liter diesel V8 was optional on the DeVille and we pity the unlucky buyers who checked that box. Generally credited as the engine that made "diesel" a haunted word in Detroit for 30 years, the 350-cubic-inch unit might actually be fitting for the Ghostbusters. On the bright side, the '82 is new enough that it may have carried a box or two of Hi-C's stellar, Ghostbusters-inspired Ecto Cooler. Maybe the mortician took his kid to Kroger one time, you never know. Fitting in In the original 1984 Ghostbusters, the '59 Caddy was a forlorn and forgotten piece of machinery waiting for a new lease on life. Character Dr. Ray Stantz picks it up and admits in the film that it needs "some suspension work and shocks ...

Chrysler, Nissan looking into claim that their cars are industry's most hackable

Sun, 10 Aug 2014

A pair of cyber security experts have awarded the ignominious title of most hackable vehicles on American roads to the 2014 Jeep Cherokee, 2014 Infiniti Q50 and 2015 Cadillac Escalade.
Charlie Miller and Chris Valasek are set to release a report at the Black Hat hacking conference in Las Vegas, Automotive News reports. The two men found the Jeep, Caddy and Q50 were easiest to hack based not on actual tests with the vehicles, but a detailed analysis of systems like Bluetooth and wireless internet access - basically, anything that'd allow a hacker to remotely gain access to the vehicle's systems.
Considering this lack of hands-on testing, the pair acknowledge that "most hackable" could be a relative term - they point out that the vehicles may actually be quite secure.
