1953 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible - Used in the movie My One and Only

Almost as much of a star as its fellow cast, including Ren?e Zellweger and Logan Lerman, this vehicle played the family's get-away from a troubled life in New York in the 2009 movie My One and Only. Since filming, it has been starred in several magazines including Cadillac Self Starter and Old Cars Weekly

Originally from California, the car was purchased in Hollywood by me as a 95% rust-free white car with a black interior. It is one of the last 1953 Eldorados produced.
  • Original running gear
  • Original body, minimal rust except for some by the rear wheels
  • Engine Lube Tag in door jamb with Serial #
  • Cowl Tag is present, notes body #529
Two 1953 Cadillac Eldorado Convertibles were used for the movie. This is 1 out of the 2 used to play the main car. Two were used in order to have back-ups, as there were many scenes where the cars were required to drive very fast. The other car is currently overseas. The shooting for the movie took place over the summer of 2008 in Baltimore, MD and New Mexico. This Eldorado was redone for the movie, but has not been cleaned thoroughly since filming. The movie company had actually sprayed the car with dirt for effects, and that dirt has not been cleaned off since. For some scenes, the car was not driven but rather pulled on a trailer with Ren?e driving and filmed that way. For this, the windshield was sometimes removed. It has since been put back in. Wire wheels will be supplied with this car. Full wheel covers were used in the movie due to the wire wheels making the car appear to be moving backwards on film.

Modifications done to the car for the movie include:
  • New chrome
  • New convertible top (installed 2008 for filming)
  • New interior (since the movie I have had it redone once more, but has not been installed and still remains boxed in perfect condition. I have the interior used in the movie boxed as well.)
  • New windshield and correct wipers
  • Exterior painted a grey-blue
  • 5 wire rims will be included (not used in the movie)
It has been stored in Maryland since filming.

2014 Cadillac ELR leases for $699 a month

Mon, Jan 20 2014

Most Autoblog readers thought the $75,000 price tag on the 2014 Cadillac ELR was too high. If you can't swing the MSRP all in one go, how does a lease price of $699 a month sound? That's the amount that Cadillac is offering on the official ELR website, with some caveats, of course. First off, it appears that this lease price is for just for "current owners and lessees of all 1999 or newer GM vehicles." They will also have to pony up $4,999 at signing (all others will need $5,999). Second, the $699-a-month price is for a 39-month lease. Then, of course, "tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment [are] extra" and "each dealer sets own price." Also, it appears that this lease deal is only good until the end of January. Cadillac started shipping the ELR plug-in hybrid coupe to dealers last month. There are two things to note in the fine print. The most surprising is that the payments are based on "a 2014 Cadillac ELR with an MSRP of $76,000." That's $1,000 more than the official MSRP announced in October. Then we get to the real kicker: The lease limits you to a mere 32,500 miles, which is just 833.3 miles a month. Well, 'limit' isn't the exact word, since you can certainly drive more. All you have to do is pay 25 cents per mile for each mile over 32,500. Drive the national average of 13,476 miles in a year? That comes to 43,797 miles over 39 months, which is 11,297 extra miles and an extra $2,824.25.

GM extending warranties on Cadillac CTS-V and Chevy Camaro ZL1 for supercharger issue

Wed, 04 Jun 2014

Okay General Motors, we've sat by and watched you recall the compact cars, crossovers and pickup trucks, and aside from reporting on it, we've been fairly quiet. This, though, this will not do. We can almost tolerate the recalls on the bread-and-butter cars, but leave the performance vehicles alone.
According to a report from The Car Connection, GM has discovered a problem with the superchargers of the 6.2-liter V8s found in the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the Cadillac CTS-V. Apparently, the issue rests around the internal bearing shaft grease, which can become contaminated (we aren't sure with what). If left unchecked, it'll first lead to a rattle at idle, which goes away under slight throttle. The real warning stage is when a high-pitched squeal develops, signaling that the bearing shaft has failed. Naturally, severe engine damage is the next step (although it's possible that the engine will also just refuse to turnover, although neither case is desirable).
According to TCC, GM will replace the superchargers on vehicles that have exhibited symptoms of bearing shaft failure free of charge. It will also, allegedly, be extending the warranty on all supercharged ZL1s and CTS-Vs to 10 years or 120,000 miles (whichever comes first), from the date of purchase. Officially, only 2009 to 2013 CTS-Vs and 2012 to 2013 ZL1s are suffering from this issue.

GM to build $1.3 billion Cadillac plant in China

Wed, 08 May 2013

General Motors has gotten approval to build a $1.3 billion manufacturing facility for its Cadillac brand in China. China's National Development and Reform Commission signed off on plans for GM to build the plant in the country's Shanghai's Jinqiao zone; construction is expected to begin in June of this year. According to a Bloomberg report, the plant will have an annual production capacity of 150,000 units.
No surprise here, but Cadillac would like to sell a lot more cars in the plush Chinese luxury market. The brand moved only 30,010 cars in China last year, compared with 400k for Audi, and about 330k for BMW. With Cadillac already telling us that it would be moving production of its XTS sedan to China - a production decision that saves having to pay 25-percent import tariffs - approval of the factory is a critical win for the company.
In fact, according to earlier comments by GM China president Bob Socia, it's at least conceivable that Chinese-built Cadillacs could be shipped back to the US for sale. The brave new world of globalization, getting stranger by the minute.
