If you've been waiting for the sharpest 2002 DTS, look no further.

THE GOOD:
I bought this in 2003 with less than 2000 miles (two thousand) so it's virtually a one-owner car (first owner bought it as as surprise for is wife, who then announced "I wanted a Lincoln Navigator!").  It's been the best car we ever owned, and we have a previous long history of Mercedes-Benz ownership.   It has every option available at the time- including navigation, sunroof, night vision, hands-free phone, leather, heated seats (all 4), lumbar seats (front), top-of-the-line Bose sound with CD changer, premium 3-stage paint,  and far more- too much to list here. Cost new was $65,000 and there are several post-factory upgrades such as custom billet grille, gold emblem package, stainless steel fender trim, additional luxury wood interior trim, trailer hitch, etc.  Senior owned, never smoke in.  Looks, runs, drives, and rides like the true luxury car it is.

Maintenance- dealer maintained for the first 100,000 miles.  Oil has been changed very 3000  miles from new.  New struts (all 4, original electronic front and air rear struts), major brake rebuild (pads & rotors), new air pump for rear struts, and new tires- all this within the past 10,000 miles.  Also new alloy wheels less than 2 years ago.    Super clean, the only time it spent  nights out of a garage was during winters in Florida where it was in a carport.

Accident history- One low speed deer hit-  minor damage (to the car, another story for the deer), also some idiot with a pickup backed into me in a parking lot with his tailgate down and dented the deck lid, which was replaced and once got kissed in the rear while stopped at a traffic light- very minor hit- only a one inch crack in the rear bumper, which was replaced.  No other accidents.

THE BAD:
Known defects-  driver's seat heater is inoperative, oil leak at crankcase pan gasket, and "Service Engine Soon" light comes on occasionally.  This began to happen a few years ago and at first I panicked.  Took it to dealership where they checked it out. Code showed exhaust system anomaly but car ran just fine so they reset the code and told me to not worry about it.  A while later, light came on again.  Took it to 2 other shops for opinions with same result- "ignore it" as long as car is running OK.  Now the light comes on intermittently.   Sometimes it goes off by itself after a few days, sometimes I get tired of looking at the light and take it in to have the code reset- always the same thing ("check exhaust system").  I've been told by several mechanics that the sensors that trigger these warnings get cranky after a few years and can't be trusted for accuracy.

THE UGLY:
There is no ugly- this car is beautiful.  Paint is still bright and shiny, upholstery is cean and only shows minor wear.  Same is true for carpeting.

Although she's "experienced", this one still has lots of miles and years of good service left.  You might find cheaper, but I doubt you can find a better one.  Amazingly, it still has the original battery but it  must be getting tired so I will install a new one for the new owner.

Reserve price is less than 1/10 the original cost.  If reserve is not met, I may accept a near offer, so bid accordingly and be prepared to honor your bid- I will relist it with "Buy It Now" at your high bid price.

This '59 Cadillac is now on display at Toyota's museum in Japan

Tue, Dec 20 2016

The Toyota Automobile Museum is different from a lot of other automaker collections in one very interesting way: It doesn't focus solely on Toyota's own automobiles. While the home team is certainly well represented, the love is spread to plenty of non-Toyota brands and vehicles that are significant to automotive history. And that permanent collection now includes the 1959 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz convertible you see here. Yes, the '59 Caddy has the biggest tail fins ever, which makes it measurably significant. You still wouldn't expect to see it in a museum in Japan, though. After updates to the facility and its exhibits finish early next year, the 67-vehicle collection will also include such greats as a Renault 5 (known here as the Le Car), a '64 Ford Mustang, an Audi Quattro, a first-gen Honda Insight, and a Lotus Elite. Someone over there has good taste. You can visit the Toyota Automobile Museum the next time you're in Nagakute City, which is right outside Nagoya. We're booking our tickets now. GM adds 1,200 jobs at Detroit-Hamtramck plant

Thu, Oct 22 2015

General Motors is making a big move at its Hamtramck, MI, factory, announcing it will add a second shift and hire over 1,200 workers within the next several months. It's expected that by early 2016, the factory will employ over 2,800 workers to build the Chevrolet Volt, Impala, Malibu, Cadillac ELR, and by early next year, the new CT6. According to GM Hamtramck spokesperson Courtney Zemke, 40 of the 1,200 positions are for salaried employees, while the remainder will be hourly positions. As for where these employees will go, positions are being made available across the factory, so GM isn't focusing on any particular area for its new hires. It's a similar story behind the hiring surge itself. GM said in its press release that the "second shift is necessary to meet forecasted market demand," a position Zemke reiterated. It's a matter of demand across the plant's portfolio, rather than any one particular product seriously outstripping supply. Naturally, the United Auto Workers is happy with the move. "The workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck is second to none," UAW Local 22 Shop Chairman Don LaForest said in the attached release. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our UAW-GM family." Hiring is going on now, with the second shift slated to get underway in early 2016. GM's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly to Add Second Shift and More Than 1,200 Jobs Plant will nearly double its workforce by early 2016 2015-10-22 DETROIT – General Motors is nearly doubling its workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly by adding a second shift and more than 1,200 hourly and salaried jobs. The addition of a second shift will increase the plant's workforce to approximately 2,800 people when hiring is completed. The second shift is necessary to meet forecasted market demand for the five cars produced at Detroit-Hamtramck. "This is the result of the award-winning vehicles Detroit-Hamtramck produces and the confidence GM has in our team to build world-class quality for our customers," said Plant Manager Gary West. Second shift hiring is underway, and the shift is scheduled to begin operations in early 2016. "The workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck is second to none," said UAW Local 22 Shop Chairman Don LaForest. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our UAW-GM family." The 4.1 million-square-foot Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly opened in 1985. GM has invested $1 billion in the plant over the last six years, making it one of the company's most-agile manufacturing facilities in North America.

GM moving international sales HQ to Singapore from Shanghai

Wed, 13 Nov 2013

General Motors has announced that it will be moving its international headquarters from Shanghai to Singapore, a move that will see 120 employees working from the city-state by the time business opens in 2014. Meanwhile, 250 to 300 of the employees at the Shanghai office will remain in China, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
The shuffle is part of a bigger reorganization that will see GM isolate its operations in the People's Republic from its broader international efforts. This sort of divide-and-conquer strategy will allow GM to still react to emerging markets while, according to the WSJ, providing a dedicated management team for the Chinese market. The team in Singapore will be responsible for operations in Africa, southeast Asia, Australia, India, South Korea and the Middle East, on top of managing Chevrolet and Cadillac in Europe, according to a statement from GM.
The shift to Singapore "will help us to create a renewed identity for CIO (Consolidated International Operations) and lead GM's umbrella strategy for the region," said GM Executive Vice President of CIO, Stefan Jacoby.
