UNLESS YOU HAVE ACCESS TO A TIME MACHINE, YOUR SEARCH FOR THE CLEANEST '88 CADDY ON THE PLANET IS OVER! THIS GEM WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW BY A 59 YEAR OLD RETIRED MAN. TO SAY HE WAS A FANATIC WITH ITS UPKEEP AND MAINTENENCE WOULD BE A GROSS UNDERSTATEMENT. HE JUST PARTED WITH IT RECENTLY BECAUSE HE IS NOW 85 YEARS OLD AND JUST COULDN'T GIVE IT THE PAMPERING IT DESERVED. THIS CAR SPENT EVERY WINTER IN FLORIDA AND WAS KEPT IN A HEATED GARAGE WHILE IN WISCONSIN. IF RAIN WAS IN THE FORECAST HE DROVE HIS OTHER CAR. WHEN I PURCHASED IT, HE CHALLENGED ME TO REACH ANYWHERE UNDER THE HOOD AND FIND ANY DIRT OR GREASE. SURE ENOUGH, IT PASSED THE WHITE GLOVE TEST! IN ALL MY 64 YEARS, I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANY AUTOMOBILE THIS WELL KEPT. IT IS ABSOLUTELY A MUSEUM QUALITY AUTO. AS YOU CAN SEE, HE PERSONALIZED IT TO HIS LIKING. HE TOLD ME HE WANTED HER TO "STAND OUT", AND THAT SHE DOES. USING THE "OLD CAR WEEKLY PRICE GUIDE", WHICH GRADES CARS FROM #1 THROUGH #6, THIS CADDY IS EASILY IN #2 CONDITION. SHE IS LOADED WITH ALL CADILLAC AMENITIES EXCEPT FOR A MOON ROOF. THE FUEL INJECTED 4.5 V-8 PERFORMS FLAWLESSLY. SHIFTS ARE SILKY SMOOTH. THE INTERIOR IS SUPERB. AFTER GOING OVER HER WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB, I DID NOT FIND A DING, SCRATCH, DENT, OR A SINGLE SPEC OF RUST ANYWHERE, EVEN UNDERNEATH! HE ASSURED ME THE A/C COMPRESSOR AND CONDENSOR WERE FINE AND ALL SHE NEEDS IS A SHOT OF FREON, WHICH IS NOT AVAILABLE IN WISCONSIN. THIS IS TRULY A MOTOR CAR FOR THE MOST DISCRIMINATING BUYER! THE RESERVE IS SET AT A PRICE THE COLLECTOR CROWD WILL BE STUNNED BY.

GM lays off 450 at Lansing Grand River Assembly
Mon, Dec 8 2014General Motors will lay off 450 employees at its Lansing Grand River factory, The Detroit News reports, which is 100 more than the company said it'd be letting go last month. Lansing Grand River Assembly currently builds the Cadillac ATS and CTS, both of which have suffered sluggish sales, with the smaller sedan down 20 percent through last month and the larger model down 2.3 percent, The Detroit News reports. "We are adjusting plant production capacity to better align with market demand. Beginning in January 2015, the plant will operate on a single shift," a GM statement read, before explaining that not all the laid off Grand River employees will be jobless. Of the employees that have been laid off to make room for the single work shift, around 200 will transfer to the Lansing Delta Township factory, home of the Lambda-platform crossovers, GM's statement confirmed. The News expects this one-shift arrangement to continue until at least late next year, when the Alpha-platform Chevy Camaro transitions from General Motors' Oshawa, Ontario factory to Lansing. Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen said at last month's LA Auto Show, "It may not necessarily be permanent, a time may come when we've gained momentum and we can reinstate it. But for now, the adjustment to production capacity is in alignment with our plans for 2015."
Cadillac Offering $100 For Test Drives
Wed, Apr 23 2014The video meant to be presented here is no longer available. Sorry for the inconvenience. Cadillac is hoping to jumpstart sluggish sales with a generous offer to customers to get them into dealerships and perhaps behind the wheel of their very own Caddy. Cadillac is giving a $100 gift card to any insured car owners age 21 or older who drive non-GM vehicles built after 2004, WDIV reported. If you buy a Cadillac, the automaker is offering an additional $1,500 plus other incentives. Such sales promotions have worked well in the past, analysts told The Detroit News. Cadillac had strong sales last year, but sales are down 7.3 percent this quarter compared to the first quarter last year. Cadillac will run the promotion until the end of the month. New Cadillac ELR ad more educational, less controversial than 'Poolside'
Mon, Mar 24 2014Cadillac's first TV commercial for its ELR plug-in hybrid, Poolside, was a smash hit, in that a lot of people saw and talked about it. The 60-second spot didn't say the car was a plug-in, took potshots at the work ethic of all non-Americans and has raked in over a million views on YouTube (you can add one more here). Caddy's new ELR video will get a lot less media attention, but that's exactly the point. Cadillac claims it was happy with the way actor Neil McDonough strutted his way into the controversial ELR discussion. This time around, though, the coupe gets promoted in a more traditional way: with information about the car and what it can do - you know, drive on electricity, capture braking energy into the battery, go further on gas power when needed, those kinds of things – courtesy of GM's executive chief engineer for electrified vehicles, Pam Fletcher. The tone of the video has not been changed because of the Poolside controversy. David Caldwell, manager of Cadillac communications, tells AutoblogGreen that the new video is not destined for TV and is completely different because it's meant for a different audience. "It doesn't have any direct relation to Poolside," he says. "TV advertising is not necessarily the heart of marketing something like the ELR. Notwithstanding the fact that we had a very thought-provoking ad [laughs]." "We definitely have a need to communicate what the ELR is" - Cadillac's David Caldwell The way you reach out to people via the web is different than the mass-media techniques used in spots like Poolside during big TV events (it aired during the Winter Olympics). The two video spots are different because you need to offer different information in different ways, for example having an ELR website as well as an iPad filled with ELR information at the dealership. For Cadillac, TV is "not going to be the predominant methodology," used to sell the ELR, Caldwell said, "the web is closer to what you need to do to reach people. We definitely have a need to communicate what the ELR is. It's not television advertising at all." Caldwell said a handful of other short videos similar to the new one will go live in the near future, showcasing design and powertrain aspects of the car. Keep an eye out for them – just don't look for them on TV. You can watch the new video below.
