1975 Cadillac Sedan Deville (mandarin Orange Poly Slicktop) on 2040-cars
Austin, Texas, United States
1975 Cadillac Sedan DeVille SlicktopI love a good estate car and that's exactly what this is. I purchased the car from the owner's grandson who pulled the car from her garage after 15 years of laying dormant. With a little work (outlined below), the car came back to life and drives just as a 79,000 original mile car should. The idle is a little rougher than it should be and I've outlined what I've done to troubleshoot that in the mechanical section. I'm not going to call this car rare, but it is a strange one due to the slicktop and sparse options (no passenger side mirror, no tilt, no cruise, no twilight sentinel, no rear defog, etc.). I have maintenance records going back to 1977, the original warranty information card, and original owner's manual. I've tried to shoot every angle of this car and I've also outlined her condition more specifically in separate sections below. Videos of the car running and driving can be found at the bottom of the page. If you have any questions or need more pictures, feel free to reach out: Clay: (512) 653-0773 ExteriorAs you can see, this is a very aesthetically beautiful car (as long as you don't mind the Mandarin Orange Poly paint). The body paint is completely original (and very nice) with no accidents or repaints. The trim on the passenger side has been rubbed and there is one noticeable thin spot in the paint on the passenger side of the hood (both issues are pictured in the blemishes section at the bottom of the page). The back fillers were replaced long ago and they are what I would call a very cheap set of fiberglass reproductions (and there is a crack in the passenger side rear tail light filler). I do have the chrome strips from the original fillers (those come with the car). All glass is nice and uncracked and all weatherstripping is in excellent shape. The only rust on the car exists on the driver's side rear door (surface rust on the inside of the door skin -- pictured in the blemishes section below) and a quarter sized area on the passenger side of the rear window (surface rust also pictured in the blemishes section below). InteriorThe interior is also all original and only shows minor wear. The original seat belt warnings are present on both front seat belts and all six seat belts function fine (no sticking tensioners, etc.) The headliner is perfect and the dashboard is without cracks. The only tear in the interior is in the center of the bottom leather in the rear (see pictures -- it's about the size of a pea). Carpet is original and untorn with only minor blemishes. Door panels are in decent shape with two cracks in the vinyl section above the door handle on the driver's side front and a hole in the armrest (size of a dime) in the driver's side rear armrest. 8-track radio combo powers on, power antenna works well, but you can only barely hear the radio at full volume (not sure what's wrong -- haven't looked). Steering wheel is uncracked, but the wood insert strip deteriorated beyond repair and was removed. I still have the insert strip and it comes with the car (it's only translucent plastic now -- the wood grain has all fallen off). Power seat and power locks work flawlessly. MechanicalThis car runs, drives, and stops well. Car does not leak any fluids and the transmission is smooth without any slipping. Brakes are firm, easy, and stop straight. No driveline vibrations at high speeds and the steering tracks straight and tight. As mentioned in the videos, the car idles a bit rougher than it should and stumbles just off idle. I have not rebuilt the carburetor, but I suspect the accelerator pump needs to be replaced. As far as the rough idle is concerned, I did the usual maintenance items (listed below), but it still just idles rougher than it should (see the videos). Power is great and she is smooth as can be at speed (it's just idle and right off idle). Climate control works correctly, but the A/C is the original R12 system and is not charged. Compressor does engage, but I've disconnected the clutch pigtail to avoid running it without a charge (since that will eventually destroy the compressor). Maintenance Performed:

Cadillac XT5 confirmed for 2016 as next-gen SRX
Wed, Jun 10 2015Cadillac's entire lineup of 2016 models gets a major infotainment upgrade this summer with improvements to CUE and integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There's one major exception for now, though. The SRX retains the old system until its all-new generation, called the XT5, debuts early in the 2016 calendar year. "When we transition into all new product lines, we will evolve the naming convention to suit the new classification we have announced. So SRX becomes XT5 next year," company spokesman David Caldwell said in an email to Autoblog. Earlier spy shots and rumors suggest the XT5 might be offered with a turbocharged four-cylinder and naturally aspirated six-cylinder engines, plus a nine-speed automatic transmission. For the rest of Cadillac's models, CarPlay arrives with the launch of the 2016 vehicles, and Android Auto joins later. Using either of them requires a connection via USB, and they add a new projection icon on the CUE screen. Once activated, both systems integrate with driver's phone and incorporate features like navigation, music, and contacts. They can also accept voice commands. Even for those that don't want to hook up a smartphone, CUE should work better thanks to a more powerful processor. Start-up times for the infotainment system are expected to be faster, and Cadillac claims that it's also more responsive for voice recognition, navigation searches, and media. The navigation interface is simplified, as well. The Escalade, CTS, and XTS can now be ordered with a 360-degree camera system to display on the screen. Cadillac Enhances Phone Integration for 2016 Models with Apple CarPlay, CUE Upgrades APPLE CARPLAY AVAILABLE AT LAUNCH; ANDROID AUTO COMING LATER IN MODEL YEAR 2015-06-09 NEW YORK – Cadillac's 2016 model year products will feature enhanced connectivity and control, including the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, the predominant new systems for in-car phone integration. These additions are part of a broader enhancement of CUE, Cadillac's user experience, with new features and a faster, streamlined operation. Apple CarPlay will debut in 2016 Cadillac models featuring CUE's 8-in multi-touch screen except the SRX Crossover, a model that will move to an all-new generation in early 2016. Android Auto is expected to be phased into 2016 production at a later date. The 2016 model year will begin this summer.
Johan responds to critics again about Cadillac's NY move
Wed, 15 Oct 2014Cadillac's new President Johan de Nysschen has faced a fair amount of criticism since assuming his position at the head of the American luxury manufacturer. From the company's move to New York City to a controversial new naming scheme, the first few months of his tenure have not been smooth sailing. Now, the embattled exec is firing back against his critics, notably Automotive News Editor-in-Chief Keith Crain, in a new column running in AN.
De Nysschen countered Crain's claim that the move to the Big Apple, "can only mean that someone wants to live in New York."
"The relocation decision is entirely unrelated to the personal living preferences of any Cadillac executive. No corporation would tolerate such indulgence by its leadership," de Nysschen wrote. "It is about structurally entrenching a challenge to the status quo by reinforcing the psychological and physical separation in business philosophy between the mainstream brands and GM's luxury brand."
2018 Lincoln Navigator vs luxury SUV rivals: How it compares on paper
Wed, Nov 8 2017The all-new 2018 Lincoln Navigator is an impressive, luxury-lined beast. However, while its Black Label interior stood out most during our first drive of the new Navigator, it also seemed pretty clear that much of this full-size SUV was superior to the competition in a number of fundamental ways. Its Raptor-sourced 3.5-liter V6 had class-leading power for one, and its third-row seat seemed as spacious and comfortable as its rivals' are cramped and barely usable. To search for your next new vehicle, try Autoblog' s Car Finder. Yet, I wanted to take a closer look at how the Navigator fully compares on paper to its competitors - especially the Cadillac Escalade with which it most directly competes. The below spreadsheet should tell the whole story, but as you can see, there's an awful lot of class-leading green highlighter in the Navigator's column. The cargo volume and third-row legroom numbers are particularly telling, with the latter actually going up to 42.3 inches when you slide the second-row fully forward. Now, a few things to note about the above spreadsheet. The GLS-Class is also available as the GLS 550, which boasts a 4.7-liter V8 that just comes up short to the Navigator with 449 horsepower but has to deal with only 5,578 pounds. Its $94,950 price tag is comparable to the Navigator Black Label. Much of the LX 570's information is also applicable to the Toyota Land Cruiser, which, badge aside, could certainly be considered a member of this segment given its feature content and still-hefty price tag. It has better ground clearance and approach/departure angles than its Lexus sibling, along with an as-indicated lower price. Much of the Escalade's information also applies to the GMC Yukon Denali, while the Infiniti QX80 is applicable to the Nissan Armada.
