This is my 1974 Cadillac DeVille hearse built by Miller-Meteor as a 3-Way Traditional Landau hearse on the Cadillac heavy-duty Commercial Chassis.

This is a flames-and-sidepipes classic hearse- if you don't like attention this is not the car for you. This is a fun car, perfect for upcoming Halloween or driving anywhere you don't mind being conspicuous.

This hearse started its service in 1974 as a funeral car for the McGowan-Exun funeral home in Valdosta, GA.  It remained in service there until 1984 when it was sold to the Putnam Funeral home in Pikeville, TN.  It remained in service there until it was sold to a car collector here in Ohio.  This hearse has been serviced and maintained since new, and it remains in excellent mechanical condition.

I have documentation going all the way back to new for this car.  I have the original Cadillac Commercial Chassis warranty paperwork, plus the Miller-Meteor owner service book dated October 1974. I have copies of the title when the car was sold in 1984 plus the original Cadillac owners manual and service schedule.  I even have registrations going back 30 years and a funeral home postcard of the car!  I also have a 128-page book titled Classic American Funeral Vehicles which lists this car along with a full history of funeral vehicles from 1900 to 1980.  It's an interesting read.

The Cadillac Commercial Chassis is an ultra heavy-duty platform for professional vehicles.  The engine was exempt from the emissions restrictions of the time, so it is a high-output 10.25:1 compression 472 V8.  This engine makes substantially more power than the passenger car engines of the same time.

The previous owner, a car collector, used this hearse extensively for shows, traveling and for fun.  This car has recently made trips as far as North Carolina and Southern Ohio.  It is in excellent mechanical condition and it is totally reliable and dependable.  I would trust this car to make a long drive anywhere.

This hearse has been customized from it's original appearance, obviously.  If you are a shy person, this is probably not the car for you.  This car attracts attention everywhere you go!  People love this car!  It has been repainted black from it's original metallic blue-green color.  Flames were painted on the hood and functional side exhaust pipes were added.  A mock-up wooden coffin is in the rear area, and decorations, signs and curtains are in the windows.

This car runs and drives great.  The engine starts up perfectly and it is smooth and powerful.  The engine does not smoke or hesitate.  The transmission shifts well.  The side-pipes are loud, but not too loud- it is appropriate to the appearance of the car.  The brakes and steering are good and the suspension gives a great, controlled ride.  This Cadillac runs and drives like it should- it is a very reliable, dependable car that has always been serviced and kept up.  The car is equipped with air conditioning, but it doesn't currently blow cold.  The previous owner indicated it was working up until a few years ago, but hasn't been looked into since.  This car was serviced as recently as two weeks ago, when a new water pump was installed.  As I mentioned earlier, I see no reason why this car could not make a long drive anywhere.

The interior is original and is in good condition.  The rear casket area is all original and in superb condition.  It is clean and in very good shape.  All of the doors open and close properly.  The front passenger area is in good condition as well.  The seat upholstery is very good.  The carpets show some wear and tear from age but are still decent.

The exterior of the car is custom, obviously. It isn't a show-quality exterior- but it certainly catches attention.  The body is good and the underside is totally solid and clean.  There is no significant exterior body rust. The paint isn't perfect, and there are a few bubbles here and there, but it looks presentable in a flames-and-sidepipes-hearse kind of way.

I can imagine this car used as advertising for a haunted house or ghost walk, a unique cargo vehicle or just an interesting conversation-piece classic car.

This is not a perfect 100-point show car, nor a concours trailer queen.  This is an attention-getting, ratrod-style flames-and-sidepipes hearse that is reliable and fun to drive.

You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home.  This car is currently registered and insured in Ohio.  The buyer will be able to purchase a 30-day temporary tag at the OH License Bureau for driving the vehicle home.  You can also have the car shipped- please call Angels Moving Autos at 530-245-0481 for a shipping quote.

This car is kept in my garage in Willoughby, OH.

Lansing builds its millionth Cadillac

Wed, 18 Sep 2013

Cadillacs are built at plants across North America. The Escalade is assembled in Texas, the SRX in Mexico and the XTS in Ontario. But the bulk of Cadillac's lineup - or the smaller members of the family, at least - are built in Michigan. And while the upcoming ELR will be built alongside the Chevy Volt at the Detroit/Hamtramck facility (which incidentally opened with the Cadillac Eldorado back in '86), the majority of those Cadillacs built in Michigan are handled by the Lansing Grand River Assembly Plant.
In fact, Lansing Grand River just celebrated its millionth Cadillac built. The landmark millionth vehicle is a new 2014 CTS sedan in Red Obsession Tintcoat. The facility opened in 2001 and has built Cadillacs almost exclusively since then, assembling the CTS and ATS model lines, though in a couple of years it will also handle production of the Chevy Camaro.

Cadillac to fight Audi A3, Mercedes CLA with small rear-drive sedan?

Mon, 18 Aug 2014

Compact luxury sedans are fast becoming the trend among upscale automakers. Mercedes has the new CLA (and its many platform-mates), BMW has the 1 Series and 2 Series, Audi has the A3 and, though Lexus apparently isn't interested in anything smaller than its CT 200h, Infiniti is getting in on the action with a compact model of its own. It would only follow logically, then, that Cadillac should launch a competitor, and according to the latest reports, that's just what it has in store.
Speaking with Car and Driver, Cadillac marketing chief Uwe Ellinghaus confirmed that such a project is in the works. But unlike its rivals, Cadillac aims to go with a rear-wheel-drive layout. This despite research that apparently indicates that a surprising 80 percent of owners think that their BMW 1 Series is front-drive. It's the driving dynamics and styling proportions that motivate Ellinghaus and his colleagues to stick with rear-drive, however.
The new model would in all likelihood be based on the same GM Alpha architecture that underpins the ATS and CTS - a platform that has helped Cadillac keep the weight down on both models and which is expected to underpin the next-generation Chevy Camaro, as well. The sub-ATS could be positioned as a four-door 2+2, however, as the ATS grows a little larger in its next iteration in order to make room for its new baby brother.

Weekly Recap: Automakers rethink the definition of luxury

Sat, Jan 17 2015

Variety is the spice of life, but it's becoming a prerequisite for luxury carmakers in the ultra-competitive US market. The Detroit Auto Show was strong evidence of this reality. It's not enough to offer attractive and well-appointed cars and SUVs anymore. Luxury brands that want to be competitive need to invest in everything from high-powered supercars to clever hybrids. To be relevant, you need to be green and mean – and everything in between. As General Motors product chief Mark Reuss said after the reveal of the 640-horsepower Cadillac CTS-V: "We are not leaving anything on the table." He was speaking for Cadillac, but he might as well have been speaking for the luxury car market. The CTS-V debuted in Detroit about an hour after Lexus surprised showgoers with the reveal of the RC F GT3 race car and then announced ambitious plans to return to competitive racing. That almost overshadowed the fact Lexus had just revealed another potent addition to its growing F line, the 467-hp GS F. View 20 Photos But for luxury brands, it's not just about maximum horsepower for well-heeled enthusiasts or decadent amenities for the Grey Poupon set. Strong competition from all corners has forced automakers to refine and expand their lineups in ways unforeseen even a few years ago. Case in point: Mercedes-Benz finally has an answer to the BMW X6, rolling out the GLE coupe in Detroit. The X6, which blends coupe-like styling cues with some of the functionality of an SUV, debuted in 2008. Back then it was a punchline, but seven years and more than 260,000 sales later, the X6's success has compelled Benz to respond. Mercedes – one of the strongest proponents of diesel technology – also debuted the C350 plug-in hybrid sedan, which promises a range of 20 miles on electricity, though fuel economy figures were not announced. The car pairs Mercedes' well-received 208-hp turbocharged four-cylinder with an electric motor for total output of 275 hp and 443 pound-feet of torque. Meanwhile, Infiniti will add the Q30 hatchback to its lineup by the end of the year, new president Roland Kruger reiterated in Detroit. It's expected to be joined by a crossover variant, and the additions will help strengthen Infiniti in the United States and abroad. "While we're expanding our product line, we're also expanding our market reach," he said. That's something echoed by Jaguar executives, who are preparing to launch the brand's first crossover, the F-Pace, in 2016.
