I've been listing cars for the past 12 years for friends, family and other clients who accept my approach.   I have 40 yrs experience as a mechanical engineer in the automobile after market.  I describe vehicles carefully and accurately, reveal any defects, provide buyers with all available service records and a full set of high resolution photos (link to my photo server will be provided below) including many of the underside of the vehicle--something 99% of eBay sellers would rather you not know about apparently.  Thats where a lot of the money gets spent on a used car--especially a 50 yr old one!

1965 Cadillac DeVille base convertible

I'm listing this impressively maintained  '65 DeVille for a car-enthusiast client for whom I've sold several other spectacular vehicles including a Maserati and a 7-series BMW.  This gentleman maintains his cars to an extremely high standard as you will see from the photos.  He bought this one to use at his FL residence where it has been kept for the past 10 yrs.  It's always been garaged and kept very current on service since it was his daily driver in FL.  Service work for past 10 yrs has been performed by Anchor Rd. Auto Care in Naples.  The underside of the car shown in many photos shows completely corrosion free with new brake lines, fittings, brake cables, the bottom has been carefully sealed and undercoated.  The paint is exceptional--note not even a chip can be found in the leading edge of the hood.  The top has been replaced and sports a spotless glass rear window.  It's not been up much as this car has been driven 'open' on nice days in Naples and stored in a climate controlled garage.

Options

-I don't think there were many offered in those days!  There is classic push-button AM-FM radio which works fine, a GM original climate control system which blows very cold air. The power seat controlled by the driver works fine.  The door mirrors are manually adjustable.  The trunk opens with the ignition key.  The hood opens directly from outside--I guess people were more trustworthy in the 60's?   Things like cruise control, adjustable steering wheels, even headlight dimmers were still a ways off on the horizon apparently.

Hagarty Notes

For 1965, Cadillac announced a new De Ville series — now with a capital “D” —that included a convertible and pillared sedan for the first time. This full slate of new De Ville models effectively replaced the former Series 62 line. Subtly but superbly detailed, the 1965 Cadillacs utilized a new perimeter-frame chassis while retaining a 129.5-inch wheelbase. At the front, dual stacked headlamps were featured; at the rear, only a suggestion of fins remained.

About the seller

I make a living by providing accurate descriptions of the vehicles I list for family, friends and estates.  I am not a dealer but I do have have clear title to the vehicle and the authority from the owner to complete the transaction.  I will gladly provide any additional details you may require to make an informed bidding decision. 3rd party inspections are welcome. Note that I include pictures of the underside of the car--where much the money gets spent on used cars--information that most sellers apparently would rather not share with you.

I am a mechanical engineer with 40 yrs experience in the vehicle industry aftermarket.  I’ve raced, toured, modified, repaired and restored motorcycles and cars as a lifetime hobby.  I sell vehicles for friends and family.  I take full responsibility for my descriptions and enjoy a good reputation by making sure there are no surprises at delivery.  I am not a dealer so there are no junk fees, no free TV’s, and no suspenseful consultations with “the sales manager” (that’s me)!  Fly into Cleveland (CLE) or Akron Canton (CAK) and I’ll pick you up in your new airport limo!

Scammers?

Don’t even think about it!  I do not do bundled shipping.  I don’t care if you are in the merchant marine or your late dad was the president of Sri Lanka--if you don’t have a PayPal account we aren’t doing business, period.  And furthermore, please practice your English on more gullible sellers.  The boiler rooms you guys call from are so noisy these days I can hear your buddies in the background asking the same stupid scammer questions:  “So why are you selling your... ‘item’…”  The last scammer who tried to snag my e-mail is probably still trying to figure out how he got 250,000 messages about aluminum siding and free ginzu knives back in his mail. (It helps having a friend with a pHd in computer security).

Bidders' Qualifications:

Feedback less than 10?   You must me an e-mail with your phone number so we can discuss my terms and conditions.   I welcome legitimate international bidders and have sent vehicles to Europe and the middle east but please contact me before bidding to discuss your shipping plans.

2016 Cadillac ATS-V First Drive [w/video]

Sun, Apr 26 2015

If you get hot and bothered for hot-rodded sedans and coupes, you probably know that Germans have long dominated that cutthroat scene. For years, the Audi RS/BMW M/Mercedes-AMG triumvirate has ruled the microcosm of grunty, mid-level luxury cars. But a funny thing happened when Cadillac's first V car hit the market in 2004. Since the CTS-V crashed the high horsepower party, German tuning houses started thinking less about the "Daddy's Caddy" stereotypes and more about the next imminent threat – in this case, the inevitable high-horsepower spinoff of the smaller, nimbler Cadillac ATS. The standard ATS' defense against the German triad hasn't been triumphant so far (GM's Michigan plant was idled for three weeks in 2014 due to excess inventory), but the souped-up 2016 Cadillac ATS-V presents a fresh bid to put the Teutonic competition on alert. The ATS-V's flared bodywork and quad exhaust pipes offer bits of visual shock and awe, but significant hardware upgrades back up the go-fast looks. Front and center is a twin-turbocharged, 3.6-liter V6 with reworked internals including a charge-air cooler, titanium connecting rods, and titanium-aluminide turbines. The new engine produces 464 horsepower and 445 pound-feet of torque, up a staggering 262 hp and 173 lb-ft compared to a base, four-cylinder ATS. Those output figures eclipse the BMW M3/M4 (425 hp, 406 lb-ft) and Audi RS5 (450 hp, 317 lb-ft), but lag slightly behind the V8-powered Mercedes-AMG C63 (476 hp, 479 lb-ft), and more so the C63 S (503 hp, 516 lb-ft). The chassis benefits from several structural braces, most notably a shear panel intended to boost front-end stiffness. Extra poundage from the add-ons are minimized through lighter-weight materials – in the case of the shear panel, stamped aluminum. Cadillac says though it intended to make the ATS the quickest car in its segment (stated 0-60 mph times between 3.8 and 3.9 second virtually match the BMW M4 and Mercedes-AMG C63 S' 3.9 figure), the development team says they also focused on subjective qualities like turn-in quickness and steering response. As such, toe links have been replaced with ball joints, mounts have been retuned, and reworked magnetic damping offer greater responsiveness. Six suspension bushings have been stiffened and ten have been completely redesigned, and the Performance Traction Management system that tames beasts like the Corvette Z06 and Camaro ZL1 also helps lay down power in the ATS-V.

GM won't really kill off the Chevy Volt and Cadillac CT6, will it?

Fri, Jul 21 2017

General Motors is apparently considering killing off six slow-selling models by 2020, according to Reuters. But is that really likely? The news is mentioned in a story where UAW president Dennis Williams notes that slumping US car sales could threaten jobs at low-volume factories. Still, we're skeptical that GM is really serious about killing those cars. Reuters specifically calls out the Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac CT6, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Sonic, and the Chevrolet Volt. Most of these have been redesigned or refreshed within the past few model years. Four - the LaCrosse, Impala, CT6, and Volt - are built in the Hamtramck factory in Detroit. That plant has made only 35,000 cars this year - down 32 percent from 2016. A typical GM plant builds 200,000-300,000 vehicles a year. Of all the cars Williams listed, killing the XTS, Impala, and Sonic make the most sense. They're older and don't sell particularly well. On the other hand, axing the other three seems like an odd move. It would leave Buick and Cadillac without flagship sedans, at least until the rumored Cadillac CT8 arrives. The CT6 was a big investment for GM and backing out after just a few years would be a huge loss. It also uses GM's latest and best materials and technology, making us even more skeptical. The Volt is a hugely important car for Chevrolet, and supplementing it with a crossover makes more sense than replacing it with one. Offering one model with a range of powertrain variants like the Hyundai Ioniq and Toyota Prius might be another route GM could take. All six of these vehicles are sedans, Yes, crossover sales are booming, but there's still a huge market for cars. Backing away from these would be essentially giving up sales to competitors from around the globe. The UAW might simply be publicly pushing GM to move crossover production to Hamtramck to avoid closing the plant and laying off workers. Sales of passenger cars are down across both GM and the industry. Consolidating production in other plants and closing Hamtramck rather than having a single facility focus on sedans might make more sense from a business perspective. GM is also trying to reduce its unsold inventory, meaning current production may be slowed or halted while current cars move into customer hands. There's a lot of politics that goes into building a car. GM wants to do what makes the most sense from a business perspective, while the UAW doesn't workers to lose their jobs when a factory closes.
