1965 Cadillac Convertible Great Original Survivor Car on 2040-cars

Year:1965 Mileage:99600
Location:

Newburyport, Massachusetts, United States

Newburyport, Massachusetts, United States

This is a very original and clean 1965 Cadillac Convertible.  The car originally was from Portland OR.  I bought the car 13 years ago in and had it shipped to Massachusetts. This Cadillac had one proud owner from 1965 to 2000 and has been garage kept since new. In late 2000 the car was sold by the original owners grandson to a family friend, who sold it to me in April of 2001.  I am the third owner.  I had it shipped to Mass. In the spring of 2001 where I've driven it only on nice warm days and have kept it in a garage always.  I was attracted to it’s all original straight condition. The car has never had rust or rot.

Over time I have replaced some things including the top, belts and fully tuned it. The tires and battery were replaced a couple hundred miles ago and I had the carburetor completely rebuilt. I just did a full tune, including points, condenser, plugs, carb adjustment. The car RUNS LIKE IT’S 1965!  SMOOTH AND SILKY QUIET. I also had the fuel system serviced with new vent hoses, new sender unit gasket.

This car runs smooth, quite and strong, really a pleasure to drive if you can afford the gas!

BODY and PAINT: The car is west coast solid with no rot anywhere, ever. The body is amazingly straight and honest. The paint is 95% original and still has a little sheen to it. There are some small dings and scrapes here and there. There has been some spot re-spraying of a couple panels, the rear quarter, and one front fender was re-sprayed at some point. Please realize the paint is 49 years old so it is not perfect, but very presentable as is.

CHROME and TRIM: The chrome is in overall very good condition. The bumper front center portion has one bad spot,. The center portion is a separate piece and can be switched out. The rest of the front bumper is very very nice.  The rear bumper is overall good but aging. The stainless and chrome trim everywhere on the car is excellent.

INTERIOR: The interior is all original. The dash is really nice. The molded plastic bottom dash and door panels are yellowed. The carpet is faded, but nice shape otherwise. The rear seat cover is nice, and the front seat cover, driver’s area is split at the seams. The door panels and rear side panels are great.  I had a couple upholstery guys look at the interior and it can be repaired rather than replaced (if wanted). For example the original carpet can be dyed, the rear seat dyed, the front seat insert replaced or repaired (Jenkins has the correct Aztec emboss/perforated leather), the hard plastic re-sprayed. This would freshen the interior to new without ripping out and destroying the originality of the car. In the glove box are the original books, owners manual, accessory guide, top guide.

TRUNK: In the trunk is one of the original tires, the boot in the original canvas boot bag, and the wood tire block for changing the tire. Mileage is 99,000 plus....not 100 yet!

The color is Cape Ivory (code 40) with a rare and must have been a special order white with dk. turquoise dash cap and carpet...(code 355) .

This is a great ORIGINAL never SCREWED with 1965 Cadillac. A real SURVIVOR.  A solid number 3 car that can be enjoyed as is or very easy to restore.  A great investment, it’s value will always rise. More fun than stocks and bonds!

I think it's originality is great...and they are only original ONCE!

Here's the breakdown for this most recent set of recalls:

GM laying off 510 amidst slow Cadillac, small car sales

Wed, 12 Nov 2014

General Motors is laying off about 510 workers from two factories beginning in January, and it could be months before the automaker needs some of that latent capacity to come back on line. A combination of poor sales and high dealer inventories are prompting the cutbacks, according to Automotive News.
The largest changes come at GM's Lansing Grand River plant, where the Cadillac ATS and CTS are made. An entire shift of about 350 workers is being laid off, but the automaker hopes to find positions for some of them at other nearby factories. The decision leaves just a single shift building vehicles there. According to Automotive News, the move is partially spurred by Johan de Nysschen's plan to make Cadillac a more exclusive brand.
The lost shift will likely return for production of the next-generation Chevrolet Camaro at the plant, according to the report, but GM isn't saying when that will be. A previous announcement from the Canadian Auto Workers union indicated that the Oshawa, Ontario, factory would lose the coupe in late 2015 or early 2016.

Combine a self-driving car with V2V, and here's what happens

Sat, Dec 12 2015

Transportation engineers have started laying the groundwork for a traffic world in which cars communicate with other cars and infrastructure like bridges and traffic lights. How about an environment in which cars talk to pretty much everything and everyone? In a preview of its offerings at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show, Delphi Automotive will deploy just such a concept. Engineers have designed a system that communicates with traffic signals, street signs, pedestrians, cyclists, even to fry pits and parking garages along a driver's route. To date, engineers and researchers across the auto industry have focused on the technical and safety-oriented foundation of future vehicle-to-vehicle communications, which could help cars share information about everything from traffic tie-ups to upcoming road hazards. Beyond those building blocks, many have projected that V2V could also include more consumer-focused features. Delphi's system, dubbed V2Everything, might be the first that combines those sorts of features in a tangible package. At CES in Las Vegas, scheduled to begin the first week of January, company officials say they'll demonstrate in real-world conditions how V2V technology can be used in an autonomous vehicle to provide a range of critical safety information and leisure and convenience options for riders. The first V2V technology installed on a production car is slated to appear on the 2017 Cadillac CTS. "We imagine a world with zero traffic accidents," said Jeff Owens, Delphi's chief technology officer. "To get there, we will need a convergence of active safety, sensor fusion, connectivity platforms and advanced software." Such software might allow a vehicle to start searching for and reserving parking spots at a programmed destination long before arriving. It could allow riders to place their McDonald's drive-through order from the road and have the food ready for pickup along the route. For the drive itself, the Delphi-equipped car can stay updated on the status of traffic lights around Las Vegas, and can anticipate yellow and red lights. Using smart-phone technology, the car can detect pedestrians and cyclists that may otherwise be hard to see. It can send messages to friends or family to notify them of a driver's location. Some of those features have been available on third-party apps or individually developed by automakers. But this system marries them together in a single system that is tailored for use in self-driving cars.
