1963 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe De Ville on 2040-cars
Temecula, California, United States
Extremely nice 1963 Coupe that looks as if it has been restored, but it's all original. The paint presents itself as if it were factory new and is original. The interior has slight carpet fading on the transmission hump, but the rest of the interior is near perfect. We bought this car from the original owners for our collection, but making room for a '59 convertible that we acquired. The Caddy has always been a southern California car and has been garaged its entire life. The original owner was a LaSalle Club member and frequented the Pebble Beach car shows. We bought the car from his estate.
Exterior The sides of the car are laser straight with no history of rust or damage repair. There are no door dings or dents. The paint has a mirror like finish as expected. There are no dings or cracks in the windshield and the remainder of the glass is perfect. The chrome is perfect with no flaws or patina. All bright work is perfect. Equipped with 17" knock-off true wire wheels that are showing some aging (minor surface rust) in the internal spokes. I have not attempted to polish the wheels. The tires have less than 800 miles. All lights, blinkers, hood blinkers and markers work as they should. No fading of the lenses. There may be one small rock chip to the paint just above the grille. The grill is perfect. No waves in the body hood or deck lid. Interior No cracks in the leather or dash pad. The seat fabric has no checking or failure in the stitching. The badging, bezels, steering wheel, all dash components present as if new. I have never seen an unrestored car that does not have some bubbles or imperfections in the chrome, etc. All interior lighting works (all door courtesy lights work), power windows work as they should except the driver's rear has to be helped up if rolled all the way down. The clock was taken out and the points were cleaned and the unit was oiled correctly. Amazing to see the clock components with no hint of corrosion or age, so now the clock works perfectly. All gauges work as they should. Glove box light works. A high end CD stereo is mounted in the glove box and sounds amazing (has iPod terminal). The original radio works but is disconnected from the speakers (because of the stereo connection) and the power antenna does not work all of the time and needs assistance at times. The power seat functions up and down and reclines forward and backward, but the main movement forward and back does not works. The switch is fine, the motor operates, but the seat does not move. I have not investigated but suspect a gear problem. Seat belts in the front, but not in the rear. Mechanical The motor starts and runs perfectly with less than 82,000 original miles. No smoke and maybe a very minor drip from time to time. The motor has never had any work, for instance the valve cover gaskets are original. Power steering and brakes work perfectly. All suspension components have been maintained as they should. The transmission shifts flawlessly. This car drives down the highway just as well as our 2010 Suburban (although the brakes are not near as good, but there are no vibrations or shimmy at 70-75 mph). There are absolutely no rattles with this car. Looking under the car is amazing. The rear coil springs actually look new with no hint of surface rust under the car. The floorpans are perfect. There is no evidence of repair or modifications under the car and it looks consistent with the condition of the remainder of the car. Once again, the motor is quiet, starts easy, accelerates as it should, never runs hot and seems flawless. I have not detailed the engine bay; it is original and dusty. Summary We never expected to sell this car, but circumstances dictate. We have the original owner's manual. I always see folks claiming to have the nicest unrestored '63-'64 Caddy in the country, but I truly believe this one is a candidate. I have to say that if you are not satisfied with this car upon purchase, that I have no problem buying it back (just ship it back to me and I will fully refund your money). I do not want to sell to anyone that is not satisfied and does not enjoy it as we do. I welcome inspections at our home in Temecula, CA (60 miles north of San Diego). Robert at 951-506-3572. |

No, Cadillac is not killing its flagship CT6 sedan
Sat, Jul 22 2017Mark Twain never actually said that reports of his death had been greatly exaggerated. But if the Cadillac CT6 could talk, those are the exact words it would use. Speaking to Jalopnik, Cadillac chief Johan de Nysschen confirmed, emphatically, "There is absolutely no plan, at all, to cancel the CT6." In fact, says de Nysschen, the CT6 will soon be the beneficiary of significant investment. "The [CT6] forms a very important part of our product strategy going forward for the brand. The car also has a very major contribution to make to the shaping of brand perceptions, and the transformational process that Cadillac is undergoing." For instance, expect the CT6 to spearhead General Motors' most advanced forays into self-driving automobile technology. Interestingly, though, the Cadillac ATS and CTS sedans probably won't live past their current generations as the automaker 're-balances its sedan portfolio.' Replacement models are "in development" right now, says de Nysschen, which will "much more clearly separate the market position, both in terms of target customer demographics, in terms of market segments and in terms of price points between these three sedan lineups." So, that's confirmation that the Cadillac CT6 is going to stick around for a while. But what of other models cited by Reuters to potentially be killed, like the Buick LaCrosse and Chevy Impala and Volt? Read our take on that here, but suffice it to say that we don't think they're in danger, either. Driving the 2016 Cadillac CTS-V at the old Elkhart Lake road course
Wed, Jun 24 2015The placid community around Elkart Lake, WI, looks about as far removed from a glorious motorsport venue as you can imagine. A turn of the century downtown gives way to old-school resorts, beaches, and boat launches around the picturesque lake, with farms framing the rolling hills all around. But it was those very same meandering country lanes that gave birth to one of America's greatest racing circuits, some 65 years ago. Between the first race in 1950 and the opening of the dedicated Road America track in 1956, the roads around Elkhart Lake provided the setting for some great post-war racing. Competing on public streets was ultimately outlawed across the country, but not before drivers risked life and limb in the name of glory in the Wisconsin summer. Cadillac asked us out to the area recently, not to talk racing history, but to look forward at one of the most track capable cars the company has ever offered: the 2016 CTS-V. We got to drive the 640-horsepower beastie for an entire morning of hot laps at Road America, but unfortunately, we're not allowed to tell you about all of that right now. You'll have to wait until the embargo lifts on August 3, at which point we promise a full recounting of our adventure. Having the CTS-V for a full two days though, and in the spirit of the motorsport that imbues the air in Elkhart Lake, we took the Cadillac on a drive around the old 6.5-mile road course. Come for the new Caddy, but stick around to find out what the hell Wacker's Wend is. Cadillac Luxury Performance Videos
