The good:

A little over one year ago the car was completely painted to a hue closely matching the original color of Cobalt Blue Metallic. The original paint is no long manufactured so we had to pic a color that was close as possible. The paint is in great condition with only small flaws from driving it to local car shows and cruises (rock chips and minor scratching). While being painted many of the larger chromed pieces were also sent out to be re-chromed. This included the front bumper, rear bumper, door handles, hood ornament, and the trim rings around the head lights. The only issue with these pieces is the rear bumper ends which the previous owner attempted to replace rusty metal via welding and did a very poor job. These ends are hard to find so they are still in the condition as I received them when I purchased the car.

The 331 V-8 engine is the original engine and runs very well. It has been converted to unleaded gas and the rear main seal was changed at the same time. The original transmission was rebuilt and has approximately 2000 miles on it. It shifts very well and has no issues whatsoever. The original A/C was gone thru and is fully functioning and representative of a car from 1955.  A new electric windshield wiper motor with new arms and blades were installed when the original vacuum system gave out. I did keep the original parts in case a switch back was in order. A new master cylinder and brakes were installed when it became clear the one's on the car were not up to the task. You can stop confidently now with no issues. It has been tuned up, the carburetor works great, and it does not smoke or use oil. This Cadillac can be driven with no worries!

The bad:

Everything in the interior works except the radio and clock in the dash. The radio may work but the previous owner cut all the wiring to it and I haven't had time to reattach them all. The clock most likely is worn out. The windshield cleaning system does not function because it does need the original bottle that has the built in pump.

Please contact me with any questions prior to bidding. I will provide any other information that isn't included in this add on request as well. If shipping is involved, I will get the vehicle to the designated pick up point here in S. Florida as quickly as necessary. I do have this vehicle listed locally and other websites, so this auction could be pulled at anytime. The reserve is set at a reasonable level based on the condition of the car and it's exclusivity. I would like $25,000.00 and I will listen to any reasonable offers at anytime. Thanks for bidding!

Cool car technology is cool until it breaks

Fri, Mar 27 2015

Ah, technology – the beautiful date that impresses all your friends but costs you a fortune to keep happy, up-to-date, and working. Automotive News puts some numbers to the economic toll we're paying to jockey this technological Trojan horse, an analysis it sums up with "Technology is great - until you have to replace it." Back in 2000, for instance, you could replace a Cadillac Escalade taillight lens for $56.08, or replace the entire unit for $220.49. Crack the rear lens on your 2015 Escalade and you have to buy a new unit for $795 - there's no such thing as just replacing a lens anymore. What about headlights? It was $210 for an Escalade headlight in 2000, it's $1,650 for the current unit (pictured). This is nothing we didn't know, these are just hard numbers to demonstrate it. Edmunds recently provided the same with its sledgehammer-bashing of the 2015 Ford F-150, Tesla Model S buyers have been shrieking about repair costs to their electric sedan's all-aluminum bodywork, and used-car sites are full of articles about which expensive-to-repair features to steer clear of if you want to avoid big repair bills. Those expensive bits increase the price of a car - Kelley Blue Book says the average price of a car is now more than $33,000 - and that raises rates for repairs and insurance. This comes in spite of some carmakers that have been collaborating with insurance companies and repair shops at the design stage in order to engineer parts that are easier and less expensive to replace. But the tech can have its cost-saving benefits: a 2011 study by the Highway Loss Data Institute found that Volvos fitted with that company's City Safety feature "filed 27 percent fewer property-damage liability claims" than luxury SUVs without it, and just last month the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety called adaptive headlights one of the top four crash-preventing technologies on cars today (after coming out against them in 2006). So yes, the technology costs a mint when it needs to be fixed - but being able to avoid an accident in the first place might make it worth it. Cadillac expects major growth in China

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US sales issues facing Cadillac are not being paralleled in the People's Republic of China, as a new report from Automotive News indicates the US luxury maker should see its sales increase by as much as 40 percent.
The report cites Cadillac's own forecasts, which put its 2014 sales in the PRC at 70,000 units after cresting 45,000 vehicles at the end of August. Provided the sales pace holds true through 2015, the brand would hit its new 100,000-unit sales goal, AN reports.
"We're very optimistic about the luxury market, we believe that the luxury market by 2016 here will become the largest luxury market in the world, surpassing even the size of luxury in Europe," GM China President Matthew Tsien told AN. "With [Cadillac president] Johan [de Nysschen], we have somebody that really is an executive that understands luxury, but he also is very, very keen on understanding what do we need here in China for Cadillac to be successful."

Cadillac sales chief fired over policy violation

Sun, 21 Jul 2013

Amidst a good year for Cadillac, which is experiencing higher sales gains than any other US brand this year, the US sales chief has been fired over a policy violation, Automotive News reports.
The sales chief, Chase Hawkins, "has left effective immediately," GM spokesman David Caldwell told Automotive News. Caldwell went on to say that Hawkins' replacement would be chosen soon.
Hawkins became the US sales chief in June 2012, and before that was the regional sales director for Cadillac in the Northeast US, overseeing 168 dealerships.
