Lyft and Chinese on-demand transportation venture Didi Kuaidi have announced a partnership. Additionally, Didi Kuaidi is investing $100 million in Lyft. The two ridesharing companies will share technology and provide interoperability between platforms. For users, this means it will be easier to get around when traveling between the US and China. "In today's rideshare environment, where every region presents a unique set of challenges and opportunities, partnering with the homegrown leader is the winning approach to Chinese expansion," says Lyft President and co-founder John Zimmer. Beginning October 1, the one-way carsharing service will expand its boundaries beyond its current Miami service area to include neighboring Miami Beach. "Miami Beach residents and visitors are increasingly seeking new, environmentally conscious options to move around North, Middle, and South Beach, and carsharing is an important part of realizing that vision." It allows for faster charging without the customer having to upgrade their electrical service panel. Cadillac will use ultracapacitors in its stop-start systems for 2016. Rather than relying on battery power to run electrical systems while the engine is not running, the utracapacitors can provide a stable flow of energy without losing lifespan to repeated cycling. Supplied by Maxwell Technologies, the ultracapacitors are also lighter than batteries and, according to Cadillac, provide smoother restarts. Expensive Cadillac ELR at least comes with free Level 2 home charger

"But wait, there's more!" Anyone who's watched late-night television is familiar with the telltale phrase of a spokesman looking to reel in a potential customer who may otherwise be disinterested in what's being advertised. Now, General Motors, faced with selling the first Cadillac extended-range plug-in vehicle to a public that may find it rather expensive, is throwing in a bonus. In this case, GM will give away a 240-volt home fast charger to "early" buyers of the Cadillac ELR, including professional installation. How early? Well, we're not finding that information in the press release below, so it may be a moving target. Earlier this month, GM said it would offer the ELR for a 39-month lease for $699 a month for qualified lessees. The deal requires $5,999 down and GM originally said it would only be good until the end of the month (though we assume that could change). It's also an "ultra-low-mileage" lease that allows for only 10,000 miles of driving each year, before per-mile surcharges of 25 cents kick in. Last fall, GM set the base price for the ELR at $75,000, before government incentives get factored in. Like its Chevy Volt sibling, the ELR can go about 340 miles using both the electricity in the battery and the gas-powered on-board generator. Check out our ELR First Drive here. The Cadillac ELR offers a convergence of luxury, electrification and sporty driving in a premium coupe with dynamic design and an award-winning range-extended electric powertrain capable of 340 miles of total range.

2018 Cadillac CTS-V gets frosty with 115 Glacier Metallic Edition models

To celebrate the company's 115th anniversary, Cadillac has introduced a special edition of the CTS-V called the Glacier Metallic Edition. Apparently, Cadillac really likes creating special edition models focused on ice and cold. The name comes from the exclusive Glacier Metallic paint, which to us looks like a shade of white, but according to Cadillac, it's actually gray. In addition to the special color, the car also includes the normally optional Carbon Fiber Package and Luxury Package, along with red Brembo brake calipers. It also fits silver and gray forged wheels instead of the black ones the Carbon Fiber Package typically comes with. All the other features, including driving instruction in Las Vegas, are the same as a normal CTS-V. This special edition Cadillac isn't cheap, though. It runs $103,885. Optioning out a regular CTS-V in the same way as the Glacier Metallic model would save you roughly $6,000, and you wouldn't be missing any features. What you would miss out on would be the exclusivity. Cadillac is only building 115 CTS-Vs in this special color. So if you want to stand out -- at least as much as you can with such a subtle color -- the CTS-V Glacier Metallic Edition is the Caddy to buy. Related Video:
