Gs 455 Stage 1 Convertible One Of 232 on 2040-cars
Clovis, California, United States
This auction is for a 1970 Buick GS 455 STAGE 1 Convertible. In 1970 there were only 232 Stage 1 convertibles produced so this is a very very rare car.
I am listing this car for a good friend. It has been in his family since purchased new.
I will start with the history of this car, and then a detailed description.
This GS was purchased new by my friends Uncle(Willard) in Florida in 1970. He had a small sail boat so that is when the trailer hitch was installed.
In 1981 he gave the car to his daughter (Deanna)who lives in Oklahoma. The car was stored in a Barn and rarely used.
In 1985 the car was then given to my friends Dad(Robert) who lives in Las Vegas. He had a new Convertible top installed and had the interior redone as it is today(ugly but totally 90’s). He had the engine and transmission rebuilt in 1995.
In 1998 he gave the car to his son, my friend (Bob). Who lived in Wyoming at the time.
In 2005 Bob moved to California and the car was driven and stored outside in the coastal town of Shell Beach.
The car has been driven less that 10K miles since motor and trans rebuild, and less than 3000 miles since 2003(most of that was the drive to California).
Please read the following description:
Engine: When I was asked to help sell the car, I knew how rare and valuable this special car was and that having the original numbers matching STAGE 1 motor was going to be a big plus. After some research on where to find the Veh ID# to confirm the engine originality we looked and found nothing. No numbers, no code stampings. We contacted Bob’s dad who had the engine rebuilt in 1995 and he confirms he witnessed the engine work and it is the original block. Of course no one knows what went on in the first few years of this car’s life. Perhaps the engine blew, perhaps the dealer installed a replacement block(since there are NO #’s present). Over the years the original Distributer was replaced and we do not have it, and the quadrajet Carb was replaced. There is a carb is a box that is suppose to be the original one(?) WE are being as honest as we can and if anyone knows of a way to prove or dis-prove that this is a Stage 1 engine (short of pulling a head) please let me know.
Transmission: According to the research I have done this GS is still equipped with the Original STAGE 1 special Turbo 400 CODE BB (see pic)
Rear End: As far as I can tell, it still has its original Posi rear end which should have 3.42 gears for cars with AC
Mechanics: This car starts, runs and stops great. Seems very quick for a car this heavy and will chip the tires when shifting to second gear. Exhaust system replaced in 2000. Does not run hot or leak anything. AC is there but not functioning. Gauges work(no tach) but here is a ground problem because gauges peg when dash light come on.
Body /Frame: Overall car is solid. Frame just has surface rust. Must have been in a fender bender in past because front bumper is slightly tweaked and headlight surrounds look like that have been replaced. There is some rust starting around rear wheel wells and very slight bubbling on the bottom of rear quarter panels. Bottom of front fenders solid. Trunk floor will need replacing. Car was repainted original color in 1979 and is in poor shape. There are 4 small holed in the trunk lid for a rack that goes with the car(see pic). Car has been sitting outside in a coastal town and the sea air has done it damage.
Accessories: Power top work fine. No radio in dash, but there are 2 radios that go with car. All lights work. Has front power disc brakes, power steering, tilt wheel.
. Wheels and tires: Still has all 5 original 15” Rally wheels. However 2 were damaged in the past and the car has 2 replacements on it now purchased from a wrecking yard (see pic)Tires are fair.
Interior: My friends Dad had the interior re done in 1992 in the pattern you see in the pictures. (What can I say?)Carpet is original and poor in shape. Dash is not cracked but weathered. Interiors on convertible car lead hard lives and this one shows it.
Glass: Windshield not cracked but has a chip. Good glass back window on top. Door and quarter glass operate fine but missing trim piece on one side.
Convertible Top: Top was replaced in 1992 and in good shape but need cleaning.
Conclusion: Some say because of only 232 being produced, the 1970 Buick GS455 STAGE 1 Convertible is one of the most desirable Buicks. This is a running driving project car that deserves to be restored. I know that without a matching Vin# (or any vin#)there leaves some question about authenticity. I will be happy to take any pictures that you may request to help with your evaluation of this car

2019 Buick Envision First Drive Review | Still not a standout
Thu, Mar 15 2018ATLANTA – "We're in the fashion business," executive chief engineer Rick Spina told us as he introduced the 2019 Buick Envision. "Except with a lot of technology." Spina was referring to the changing whims of new-car buyers, which have prompted Buick to give the compact Envision crossover its mid-generational update early — just 18 months into its lifecycle — and drop its prices across all trim levels. As with much of our consumer goods, the Envision is made in China. That doesn't seem to have hurt it in the market, even though it wears the badge of one of the most quintessentially American brands out there. It even aced the IIHS crash tests, putting it in league with Volvo, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus. There's good news and bad news about how the Envision is doing. It's now the third-best-selling model in the Buick portfolio, behind the three-row Enclave in second place and the surprise hit Encore subcompact crossover in first. Sam Russell, Buick's director of marketing, reported 73 percent growth in the past nine months versus the first half of its market life. A full 60 percent of Envision buyers are new to the GM family, too, and Russell says that nearly half of those are likely to buy another Buick SUV when the time comes to trade in the Envision. And yet, the Envision trails in luxury compact-crossover sales, behind mainstays such as the Audi Q5 and Acura RDX, even amid crossover demand in the U.S. that has companies like Nissan posting record sales numbers and Ford canceling a redesign of the Fusion. Our test of the 2017 Envision found it competent, but lacking that "X factor" that would send buyers of German and Japanese marques flocking. Instead, we compared it to the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Hyundai Santa Fe Sport, and deemed those both better values. Perhaps Buick feels the same, because the base 2019 Envision now starts at $32,990, a $2,000 cut from last year. The Preferred trim level sees a greater drop of $2,400, to $34,495. Rounding out the naturally aspirated 2.5-liter grades, the Essence's price falls $1,900 to $36,795. The turbocharged 2.0-liter Premium and Premium II trims get a discount of $1,600 and $1,400, respectively. With those prices come changes that Buick hopes will make the Envision a more compelling prospect. Outwardly, the Envision sports a new grille, a winged affair to replace the 2018's waterfall and bring it in line with the rest of Buick's lineup.
Updated Buick LaCrosse, Regal to debut at New York Auto Show
Tue, 26 Feb 2013Judging by the spy shots we saw last week for the 2014 Buick LaCrosse and 2014 Buick Regal, we knew it wouldn't be much longer until we saw both sedans receive a grand debut. Today, Buick confirmed to Autoblog both cars will be introduced at the New York Auto Show next month, but no further information has yet been released about either model.
Having been on the market for an extra couple years, the changes to the LaCrosse appear to be more significant than those coming for the Regal, but both will be getting refreshed exterior designs as well as updated interiors. The Regal's new face brings it more in line with the all-new Encore and the restyled Enclave, while the LaCrosse should get a more distinctive, upscale appearance.
Both cars will be introduced exactly a month from today, and we'll be there to bring you all the coverage.
Buick Envision crossover to premiere in China
Tue, 01 Jul 2014Buick currently offers two crossovers: the compact Encore and the extra-large Enclave, leaving plenty of room to slot a mid-size crossover in between. And that's just what Buick is planning on doing. In China, anyway.
Previewed in the teaser above, Buick's upcoming new crossover is cloaked and nestled in between its aforementioned stablemates-to-be. Set to be unveiled in China sometime later this year, the model has been confirmed to wear the name Envision - at least in that market. That's the name which the concept version wore three years ago, but we're still waiting on word over whether that name will carry over to the US version or whether we should expect something different like Anthem. But we have to admit that Envision fits better in the brand's crossover naming scheme.
Shanghai GM isn't saying much about the Envision in the press release below, aside from it having "dynamic and assertive styling" backed by all-wheel drive and stop/start ignition. The last time Buick offered a mid-size crossover in North America was with the Pontiac Aztek-based Rendezvous that was discontinued seven years ago.
