This is a project that I have just finished, it is not a high end original show car but a very very nice ProStreet Tribute version of a 71 Buick GS that you can drive on the street anywhere as well as the drag strip on weekends. I started with a body from Texas that is 100% Rust Free, all mechanical is new as well as paint, weather stripping, tires, headliner-carpet-sails & deck lid-rest of interior is original and in good condition, driver side of bench seat has a couple little nicks on lower side as can be seen in pic. Car has a very nice low side bar -for easy in & out- 6 point cage which was taken thru floor & trunk pans and welded to frame as it should be to tighten up the structure of car in order to handle and distribute the power which I estimate to be right at 600 HP, motor is a 455 bored .030 over with TRW fly cut pistons at 12:1 comp., steel heads ported & polished with TA stainless valves, valve springs & push rods, TA Roller cam-lifters-rocker arms & dbl. roller timing chain, TA rods & bolts & high vol. oil pump, TA Stage 1 aluminum intake & 800 Holly dbl. pumper with Paxton electric fuel pump mounted on frame just in front of stock gas tank with 1/2" aluminum line back to front, MSD Dist. & 6AL Box for firepower, TA 2" headers with 3" exhaust along with Flow Master mufflers, 350 Turbo trans worked to handle power with ATI 4000 Stall, not a manual valve body so your girl friend can drive this one, however it has a easy to use Hurst Qtr. Shifter and if she's inclined she just may be pulling them, LOL, 4 core radiator, shroud filled with stock fan along with electric fan set up which allows this motor to run at a consistent 170 deg., 12 Bolt GM rear with HD Eaton Posi, 32 spline axils with 5/8 studs & 410 gear, adj. upper rear control arms, car has new M/T ProStreet tires all 4 corners, 30X12.5 street slicks on rear, with this entire combination car will run 55 MPH at 3K RPM and again with a consistent 170 deg., Comp. Engineering shocks- 90/10 front & 50/50 rear, motor will run on pump gas with a heavy mixture of octain booster additive or min. of 30% racing fuel, this is to drive and enjoy, however if you are going to run it all out I recommend 100% Racing Fuel by all means. I could go on and on but I think you got it, this car is sweet, I have not installed interior door panels yet because I'm waiting on OPGI to send backing plates for arm rest-they are on back order. Car is 100% ready for you if this is your cup of tea, be ready for the ride cause it is bad A''''''

Note: I did not use a GS style grill because OPGI wants $ 600. for that piece of plastic, I instead refinished original grill in flat black and it looks plenty GOOD !

Looking back at how and why GM saved Buick

Mon, Dec 19 2016

Still uncomfortably fresh in our collective minds is 2008, the year when the US economy tanked, auto sales collapsed, and both General Motors and Chrysler endured federally managed bankruptcies. Then 2009, when, among other draconian measures, the government task forces dictating what they were compelled to do to earn taxpayer financial support ordered thousands of dealers cut and GM to discontinue four of its eight US brands. Three of those chosen for GM's axe were fairly obvious: off-road icon Hummer had become politically incorrect, Swedish-born Saab was a perennial money loser, and product-starved Saturn had sadly sagged after its strong early start. On the other hand, high-volume value brand Chevrolet, luxury Cadillac, and high-profit GMC seemed clear keepers. That left Pontiac and Buick, both boasting strong brand heritage and histories but both languishing at the time with lackluster image and sales. Most believed that "old man's car" Buick would be killed and once-youthful Pontiac and its performance image would be revived. So few understood why when exactly the opposite happened: Buick lived, Pontiac died. One key factor was Buick's long, distinguished history in China. In the early 20th century, many of that country's most influential citizens owned, drove, or were driven in Buicks. By 1930, one out of every six cars on the roads in Shanghai was a Buick. So when GM launched vehicle production at a Shanghai joint-venture plant in 1999, the chosen brand was Buick. Today it remains GM's best-selling brand in that fast-growing market. Another was an appealing new design direction that began with a shapely 2006 three-row crossover concept called Enclave. Inspired by the Buick Velite concept convertible of 2004, its curvaceous "form vocabulary," GM Design vice president Ed Welburn said at the time, previewed coming Buick production car and CUV design. "The body shape flows, like there's wind blowing over it," he enthused, adding that the Enclave concept's richly trimmed cabin foretold "a renaissance in interior design for GM." And when the production Enclave arrived for 2008, followed by platform siblings from Saturn and GMC (and later Chevrolet), it indeed caught the public's eye and started selling well. And once past GM's painful and embarrassing bankruptcy, Buick has been on a major roll. Continuing to sell strongly in China while growing substantially in the US, it has enjoyed four straight years of global sales records.

Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites

Sun, Jan 7 2024

Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.

GM SUV window switch recall urges owners to park vehicles outside

Thu, 07 Aug 2014

It's not unusual for there to be a lag between an automaker announcing a recall and the official documentation showing up on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website. So it's no surprise that a recent GM campaign took about a month to appear in its official capacity. However, there appears to be some big differences between the two reports with potential safety implications.
In late June, GM announced that it needed to recall 181,984 examples of the Chevrolet Trailblazer, Buick Rainier, GMC Envoy, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 9-7x from the 2005-2007 model years, plus the 2006 Chevy Trailblazer EXT and 2006 GMC Envoy XL. The new documents paint a slightly different picture with 184,611 needing repaired and different model years listed.
The reason for the fix is still the same, though. It's possible for fluid to contact the master power window switch module in the driver's door, which can corrode the part. Eventually this could cause a short circuit, leaving the buttons inoperable and potentially leading to a fire. But the new NHTSA documents add an important note: "A fire could occur even while the vehicle is not in use. As a precaution, owners are advised to park outside until the remedy has been made."
