1969 Buick Gran Sport on 2040-cars
Crimora, Virginia, United States
For sale is a very original 1969 Buick Gran Sport. This is a very nice driver that looks, drives, and shows very well. The car is painted black and has a red pinstripe down the side along with a vinyl top. The paint is not perfect, it has a few little chips and light scratches here and there, but nothing major. The body of the car is in great shape with no rust and no bad body work. The floorboards and trunk pans are also solid with no rust. Most of the chrome on the car is original with the exception of new 350 hood emblems, new GS quarter panel emblems, new GS grill emblem, new GS trunk emblem, and new drip rail molding. The wheels are the optional chrome Buick "Super Sport" wheels that have new B.F. Goodrich redline radials mounted on them. The sidewalls of the tires have been shaved giving the sidewall a nice smooth finish. The combination of the chrome Buick wheels and the redline radials make for a very nice addition to the car. The interior of the car is original and is in good shape. It has the optional rallye steering wheel and the optional floor console with the horseshoe shifter. The front and rear seats have no snags or tears and the carpet and door panels are in good shape. The dash has the original radio and original heater/AC controls. The headliner in the car needs a little attention at the sail panels. It is nothing major, just a matter of tightening it up a little. Under the hood is the original Wildcat 350-4 that has recently rebuilt. It has been bored .030 over, has a T/A 212 cam, new Accell ignition coil, and a Pertronix electronic distributor conversion kit. The cam specs are 218/230 duration, .459/.470 lift, and a 112 lobe center. The motor has 9.5:1 compression, the stock intake, stock exhaust with turbo mufflers, stock heads with hardened seats, and a rebuilt and jetted Q-Jet carb. The transmission is the original Turbo 350 that has a fresh complete rebuild. It has a 2200-2400 stall converter with a mild shift kit. It has an open differential with 3.23 gears. This is a very nice, driver quality car. It is a fun car to drive to cruise-ins and gets a lot of attention where ever I take it. The car is being sold as is and the buyer is responsible for pick up. I can email more pictures of the car if interested. My home phone is 540-943-4234 and cell is 540-241-9937. |

Don't buy that crossover! Buy a cladded wagon instead!
Fri, Nov 10 2017If you're looking to buy a car soon, and you're like most Americans, there's a strong chance you're considering buying a crossover SUV. That's what people want nowadays. People like the tough, tall exterior that suggests adventure and preparedness, they like the high seating position, they like the all wheel drive many have and they like the practicality. Because of this, crossovers have rapidly supplanted typical cars such as sedans, wagons, and more as the most popular vehicles in the country. But they're compromised, too. They're often heavy, thirsty, and expensive compared with more conventional cars. The good news is, there's an alternative, a happy medium between the straight crossover and the traditional car. They're lifted wagons, and they're the best crossover SUVs around. And for those who may not know what we're talking about, we're talking about cars and wagons that have been given a suspension lift for more ground clearance and a higher ride height, and often have all wheel drive standard or optional. They also usually have chunky plastic body cladding to make them look tough and durable. Examples include the Subaru Crosstrek, Audi A4 Allroad, Buick Regal TourX, and Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, among others. Because of the suspension and body modifications, these vehicles fit the trendy crossover mold quite well. And in the case of long-running nameplates such as the Subaru Outback and Volvo Cross Country models, they even have some heritage as outdoorsy machines. They also provide the higher driving position that crossover buyers love. And in some cases, such as with the Golf Alltrack, we've learned they offer better ride quality than their road-oriented siblings. View 9 Photos So these tall wagons offer the key things crossover buyers want, but what makes them better than traditional crossovers is that they have the advantages of the cars they're based on. For instance, the aforementioned Golf Alltrack still drives mostly like a Golf, which is to say, it's nimble, feels peppy, and is easy to maneuver because of its relatively small size. We can't really say the same for the Tiguan, which feels generally more sluggish and uninteresting than the Alltrack. And we mention Volkswagen's compact crossover because it starts at nearly the same price as the Alltrack. Some of the difference in giddy-up can be explained by weight. Normal crossovers can be fairly portly, while these lifted wagons are notably lighter.
GM investing $167m in Spring Hill for new midsize vehicles
Tue, 06 Aug 2013General Motors has announced a large investment in its Spring Hill, Tennessee facility. The former home of Saturn production will be getting a $167 million addition to a previously announced $183 million, to cover a pair of new midsize vehicles. The investment is expected to create 1,800 jobs at the factory.
That $350 million is being divvied up for a pair of programs at Spring Hill. The first will take the bulk of the money ($223 million) and create 1,000 of the 1,800 jobs, while the other will take the remaining $127 million and generate the leftover 800 positions. But GM says the investment will cover "midsize vehicle programs." So what could they be?
The leading candidate in our minds is a new crossover for Buick, called the Anthem, that will slot between the Encore and Enclave, but will be slightly smaller than the Equinox and Terrain. As we've explained, the new model will likely be the first product to sport GM's new D2UX platform, which will eventually replace both the Delta and Theta platforms. Spring Hill is already building the Equinox, so there could be some credence to this theory.
Buick begins offering 24-hour test drives
Mon, Jul 20 2015Even as the year's sales charts show a decline, Buick says its brand image is improving. To bolster that soft metric while it works on overhauling its lineup - consumers are clamoring for more crossovers - the brand will begin offering overnight test drives as of July 23. Buick trialled the program in Phoenix and got a good response, so it rolls out as an ad-supported nationwide campaign called "24 Hours of Happiness" as of July 22. The push is on probation for three months while Buick evaluates it, but they expect it to continue beyond 90 days. Cars will be sourced from the loaner fleets that dealers offer customers whose cars are in for service, so only dealers with such fleets will be able to participate. General Motors did the same thing in 2003 and 2004, at the time saying it led to more than 500,000 "extended" test drives and close to 190,000 sales. That program had a cash component, in that buyers were offered $250 if they chose a non-GM vehicle after their test drive. 24 Hours of Happiness won't come with any inducements; Buick is taking the long view, positioning this as support for the brand instead of as bait for immediate returns. The Phoenix dealer who ran the program first said that it got fewer bites than he expected, but that customers who took a car home "were far more likely to buy the vehicle." Cue the Regal GS hooning in three, two... Related Video:
