1965 Buick Skylark Convertible 300 V8 At Redline Tires Nice Top 75k Drive Now! on 2040-cars
Salem, Virginia, United States
1965 BUICK SKYLARK CONVERTIBLE, 300ci V8, AT This was refurbished approx 20 years ago & the photos clearly show it has been well cared for since. The paint is glossy & the top & interior still like new. It starts easily, doesn't smoke or leak oil & the engine makes no unusual noises. The dual exhausts put out a nice muscle car rumble. This is being sold as is straight out of the indoor climate controled garage it was recently "freed" from, locked up too long, a yellow canary caged & unloved. :( It simply needs to be driven & enjoyed rather than locked away. :) All that was done to prepare it for photos was a hand wash & interior cleaning. A full tank of premium gas was added to help clear up the few gallons of old. The car drives great but really needs to get out & run again on a consistent basis. There is no floor pan, trunk pan or frame rust in this convertible! I believe that fact alone proves this cars constant garage kept status. You will not believe how nice the top is! There is not a single rip or spot of dry rot. The old power top motor is weak & requires two people to "help" it up & down. Ahh... just one of the many joys of owning a classic car. Even Grandma needs help up & down & you still love her! :) Those are very classic, original bias ply Goodyear redline tires with no dry rot, not even in the tread! I don't have to tell you it takes a great deal of care to keep tires this old from dry rot. The wheels have full chrome & all centers. The bumper chrome is super bright & I suspect they have been re-chromed because I just can't imagine 50 year old chrome to look that bright but who knows this is a garage kept car with just over 75K. The body trim condition matches the bumpers in appearance. The carpet has no rips, not even under the floor mats, tho it is a little stained here & there: can't always have perfection! The bucket seats are still solid, tightly applied & very comfortable for their age. The piping has the tiniest bit of wear on the edges & 2 button accents are missing on the rear seat material but otherwise you can clearly tell this has been indoors: free of dry rot or heavy sun fade. The interior has no musty smells, in fact the car has that pleasant old car smell that for some reason make you love them even more. The dash is also original with the original AM radio in place (not working), original coloring, no rips in the dash pad, etc. The brakes, radiator, electrical system, wipers, dual exhaust, gas tank, fuel system, etc are all functional, solid & acceptable. Nice options include the adjustable drivers side mirror & front seat belts. The glass is all good, no cracks, chips, discoloration, even the tops rear plastic "window" is crack free. The passenger side rear glass needs an extra hand to get it up & down. The paint is not show quality, it is bright & glossy with no dull spots but there are light chips from bumps in a tight garage but no more than expected for its vintage. The body did not appear to have been rusty when repaired, dented yes, but no rust bubbles are popping out anywhere. I would say the paint is about 85% & more than attractive for a daily driver. Paint has been well applied, liberally over every surface evenly & correctly: under the hood, trunk lid, door jambs, etc & those details greatly add to the overall eye appeal of this cool ride. Please bid often & to win & you will quickly meet the reserve that is well below market value. Why? Because we want to actually SELL this vehicle the FIRST time its listed. Use the money you save to have it shipped or to spruce it up a bit. The winning bidder will get to brag to friends about all the money they saved! We don't have a Barrett Jackson price in mind or even need to get "BOOK". Its just time to get this classic to a home that will DRIVE it. We will take the money made & buy another classic car because we love them. We already have a car in mind so we won't be accepting trade offers. If you love cars thanks for reading & considering our listing, hope you enjoyed it & would greatly appreciate any helpful or positive comments. Heck, if you have something negative to say, go for it, everybody needs a good laugh now & then. We tried to get your the best description we could but certainly we missed something important so please feel free to ask anything you would like to know, your questions will be answered quickly, honestly & to the best of our ability. The auction ends at exactly 9:00 EST, 8:00 Central, 7:00 Mt, 6:00 Pacific, Friday, May 30th so please be there to win! A non-refundable $200 deposit is required from the winning bidder, due via PayPal within 24 hours after the auction ends, to hold the vehicle (this proves you are fully committed to completing this transaction). No trades. Full payment is due within 3 days of auction end via cash, bank-to-bank or wire transfer, or certified bank check (drawn on a major US bank). Clear title in my name is in hand and vehicle can be scheduled for buyer pickup by appointment at anytime after full payment is received and cleared. I can hold the vehicle in indoor storage for 15 days (storage is $10.00 per day starting day 16). We are happy to work with the buyer to arrange shipping. We realize the deal is not complete until you have the car in your possession & we want that as badly as you do. Its only fair that once full payment is made that you should get your purchased item quickly. Rest assured we will do everything in our power to insure that happens as quickly & safely as possible. Once you decide on a carrier we work directly with your shipper to get the job done & report back to you just as quickly. Anything you need, we are here to serve. This 50 year old classic car is being sold as is with no warranty expressed or implied. Please don't bid unless you are serious about the pleasures & occasional disappointments involved with vintage automobiles. Thank you. |

Facelifted Buick LaCrosse caught in China
Tue, 01 Jan 2013Back in September, General Motors promised nine new or refreshed models for its Buick and GMC brands within 12 months, and while we've already seen what the updated 2014 GMC Sierra will look like, we're now getting our first look at what appears to be the facelifted 2014 Buick LaCrosse. Judging by a set of spy shots posted on Autohome showing a Chinese-market model, the updated sedan is getting a pretty big makeover, including a completely redesigned interior and a refreshed exterior.
From the outside, all of the usual midcycle updates have been made to the LaCrosse, including new lights and fascias. The new front end features a larger, reshaped seven-sided grille, LED-trimmed headlights and Buick's signature portholes are now mounted on the side edges of the hood to be more visible. The rear view has similarly small yet refined changes such as the new decklid with a chrome brow that stretches the full width of the car, to a more squared-off rear fascia with exhaust outlets pushed out to the corners. From the single shot we can see, the LaCrosse's new rump looks very similar to the Hyundai Equus.
The second-generation LaCrosse helped reestablish Buick as a near-premium automaker with its interior quality, and the next model could very well up the stakes even more. The new cabin design ditches the wraparound wood trim on the instrument panel and door panels for a smoother, more contemporary look. While it's hard to make out all of the changes, we can instantly see that the center stack is now more upright with fewer buttons, but the biggest news might be the cabin technology the 2014 LaCrosse might offer. Checking out the shot of the center console, we see what looks to be a pad similar to the handwriting recognition technology used by Audi, which would make this a first for GM.
Mixed sales results, but automaker stocks rise on need for cars in Houston
Fri, Sep 1 2017DETROIT — The Big Three Detroit automakers on Friday reported better-than-expected August sales and issued optimistic outlooks for demand as residents of the Houston area replace flood-damaged cars and trucks after Hurricane Harvey, sending their stocks higher. General Motors, Ford and Fiat Chrysler posted mixed August U.S. sales, with GM up 7.5 percent and Ford and Fiat Chrysler down. Japanese automaker Toyota improved sales by nearly 7 percent, while Honda fell 2.4 percent. Still, analysts focused on the potential for Detroit automakers to cut inventories and stabilize used vehicle prices as residents of Houston, the fourth largest city in the United States, are forced to replace tens of thousands, perhaps hundreds of thousands, of vehicles after the devastation from Hurricane Harvey. Mark LaNeve, Ford's U.S. sales chief, told analysts on Friday that following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 "we saw a very dramatic snapback" in demand. That said, Ford sales fell 2.1 percent in August. It sold 209,897 vehicles in the United States, compared with 214,482 a year earlier. Sales were down 1.9 percent in the Ford division and off 5.8 percent at Lincoln. Demand was down for cars, crossovers and SUVs. It was not clear how many vehicles in the Houston area will be scrapped, LaNeve said, saying he had seen estimates ranging from 200,000 to 400,000 to 1 million. Ford's Houston dealers may have lost fewer than 5,000 vehicles in inventory, he said. Ford is the No. 1 automaker in the Houston market, with 18 percent share, according to IHS Markit. The company plans to ship used vehicles to Houston dealers and has "every indication we would have to add some production" of new vehicles to meet demand, LaNeve said. Investor concerns about inventories of unsold vehicles and falling used car prices have weighed on Detroit automakers' shares most of this year. Now, automakers can anticipate a jolt of demand from a big market that is a stronghold for Detroit brand trucks and SUVs. "It's got to be a positive for the industry," LaNeve said. Investors appeared to agree. GM shares rose as much as 3.3 percent to their highest since early March. Ford increased 2.8 percent at $11.34, and Fiat Chrysler's U.S.-traded shares were up 5.2 percent $15.91, hitting their highest in more than five years. GM reported a 7.5 percent increase in U.S. auto sales in August, helped by robust sales of crossovers across its four brands.
The Chinese experiment | 2017 Buick Envision First Drive
Fri, Sep 23 2016The 2017 Buick Envision is a very good five-passenger crossover. The "but" you should anticipate will come in good time. First it's worth understanding why it exists at all. Out of the ashes of GM's bankruptcy a few flowers blossomed and the carmaker is doing exceptionally well, certainly far better than Chrysler has done in the wake of its free fall into Chapter 11. But of all the surprises at GM's turnaround, Buick surely ranks highest, without question the least likely player to thrive if you only study the North American market. Look farther than our shores, to China, however, and you won't be shocked. Note that the Envision, which has been on sale in China for a year and a half, will reach about 200,000 units this year; the entire Buick portfolio in the US only totaled 223,000 cars in 2015. Not only is China Buick's primary market, but what it makes there, like the Envision, is intended for a different sort of buyer. Here, we'd call it a compact crossover. In China the Envision is a relatively large car, and the buyer there is far more likely to use it as a tall limo, or at the very least, as a big-time status statement. That buyer is also very likely to be in his or her mid-30s – the average Buick buyer in the US is getting younger, but, at 58, is hardly a millennial. Still, Americans who buy the Envision will benefit from all of this China focus. Huge effort went into its development since the target competitor in China is the Audi Q5, according to Rick Spina, Executive Chief Engineer for the Envision. Spina explained that Buick went to the trouble and expense of isolating the entire chassis from engine, suspension, and driveline vibration and sound penetration. "If you look at non-luxury models like Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, nothing's isolated, everything is hard-bolted to the body, and so all that vibration goes into the frame." Spina says that even though you'd guess the China-built Envision shares the general parts bin of the Chevy Cruze and Equinox, it's almost entirely unique. "It's kind of an orphan," he says, because GM couldn't afford to invest in the ride tuning Buick had to have to compete with Audi in China for a volume Chevy product, so nothing from Chevy (for now) is on this platform. And although it would have made sense to have Cadillac or GMC share it, Cadillac's XT5 and GMC's Acadia were already on a different development cycle. Besides, he's pretty proud that the Envision was developed strictly for Buick.
