1983 BUICK RIVIERA CONVERTIBLE, EASY PROJECT, LOW MILES - This beautiful Riviera is one of 1,750 built in 1983. It had the highest sticker price of any GM car sold that year. This example has the 307 V8. This particular car was sold new in Houston, TX. It was shipped to me in WV over a year ago. Since that time, the following have been replaced: windshield, exhaust, bumper corners. Also installed Coker American Classic tires. This car has been sitting in the way since that time. Therefore, I have decided to cut my losses and let her go. Overall, it is a nice car that looks great. It has very nice paint and chrome, nice straight body. Interior is nice, but does have some imperfections: slight crack in the dash pad and the driver's seat bottom has been repaired at some time, nice job, but slightly lighter in color, carpet is very nice and the door panels are also nice for the age. The car drives, shifts and brakes fine; not sure about the cruise control or the A/C. The A/C may need charged, but the heat and defog work. The convertible top is in good condition. it has no tears and raises and lowers fine. The top does have some light staining which may scrub out. You don't even notice it from 10' away. The top boot is nice.
Some of the items that need attention are: power antenna won't work; 6-way passenger seat doesn't move; the tilt works; power locks don't work; the right RR window will not raise or lower (relay, switch) - it just happened; the right hood hinge or prop rod needs replaced or adjusted, it hangs up a little when raising the hood. There may be other small issues that I am not aware of since I have not really drove it much. The car is really nice and solid underneath. There are no rust issues or paint work needed, only a little mechanical time will be needed to have a nice Riviera Convertible. Build sheet is "in-hand" along with the original manuals.
I reserve the right to end the auction early; although it has not been listed for sale on any other website or publication. Car can be stored indoors for up to 30-days, but full pay is required in 7-days. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 304-261-1643.

GM laying off more than 4,000 workers Monday morning
Sat, Feb 2 2019According to reports from Automotive News, The Detroit News, and CNN, General Motors plans to begin laying off more than 4,000 salaried workers starting Monday morning. In a statement to AN, a spokesperson for the automaker said, "We are not confirming timing. Our employees are our priority. We will communicate with them first." We've been expecting layoffs at General Motors since November, 2018. At the time, the Detroit-based automaker announced it would seek to shed 8,100 salaried employees, shut down five assembly plants in North America, and kill off several slow-selling models. One month earlier, GM offered buyout packages to 18,000 workers and said it would seek to cut its global workforce by 25 percent. A spokesperson said at the time the moves were "proactive steps to get ahead of the curve by accelerating our efforts to address overall business performance." The cost-cutting moves are expected to save GM up to $2.5 billion in 2019 and as much as $6 billion by 2020. David Kudla, CEO and chief investment strategist of Mainstay Capital Management, referred to the impending culling as "Black Monday" and told The Detroit News that the layoffs would begin around 7:30 a.m. and continue in waves throughout the coming days and weeks. GM plans to deliver on its fourth-quarter and full-year 2018 earnings report on Wednesday. President Donald Trump plans to deliver the annual State of the Union address a day earlier on Tuesday. We expect to hear plenty more from both sides over the next several days.
Jay Leno finds no detail neglected on Icon's Derelict 1948 Buick Super
Wed, Apr 1 2015Jonathan Ward seems to have one of the greatest jobs in the world. As the CEO at Icon, he's in charge of not only the company's fantastic trucks but its Derelict series of semi-restored classics, as well. Ward's vehicles are no strangers to Jay Leno's Garage, but the latest guest on the show might be one of Icon's coolest yet. What looks like a 1948 Buick Super Convertible on the outside hides the supercharged heart of a Corvette ZR1 underneath. Like the rest of the Derelict series, this old Buick's toasted paint and pitted chrome are all part of the charm of the car, and it's really a case of beauty being more than skin deep. The Super rides on a custom chassis and suspension to make the convertible a far better driver than even a pristine original example. Plus, Ward hides all sorts of modern upgrades inside that are practically invisible until he points them out. Leno absolutely falls in love with driving the Derelict Buick. If his enthusiasm grabs you, the video below from Ward goes much deeper into the build process of this awesome project.
GM laying off 500 workers to slow Chevy Sonic production
Sat, Oct 24 2015Due to slow sales of the Chevrolet Sonic and Buick Verano, General Motors is cutting a shift at the Orion Township plant that builds the pair. The move lays off about 500 workers, but most of them are expected to get offers to transfer to other factories, Automotive News reports. The move came just a day after GM announced adding 1,200 employees to the Detroit-Hamtramck plant. GM has been trying all year at the Orion Township factory to align production of the Sonic and Verano with their demand. The automaker first attempted idling the plant several times and eventually resorted to laying off about 100 workers. It also reduced the production rate there. With the huge rise in popularity of crossovers, demand for the plant's small cars is on the downturn. According to Automotive News, there's currently a 116-day supply of Sonics and 100 days of Veranos to sell. Delivers tell a similar tale because the Chevy is off 35.2 percent from January to September, and the Buick does little better with a 27.2 percent drop from the same period last year. While the situation at Orion Township might look rough now, big things are on the horizon. Soon, the new Chevy Bolt electric vehicle will be built there when it hits the market around 2017. Plus, the plant will also get a $245-million upgrade and 300 new jobs for another, unannounced vehicle.
