1973 Buick Riviera Gs Base Hardtop 2-door 7.5l on 2040-cars
Sycamore, Illinois, United States
Selling for an older friend here is his description
This beautiful classic 1973 Buick Riviera is an original, rust free, unrestored, survivor in amazing condition. It has traveled only 90,000 miles Since I had planned on keeping the car "forever" but circumstances have changed and I need to let her go. The Riviera has always been garaged, carefully maintained, never smoked in, and just babied its whole life. The Buick still wears its original Burnt Coral paint, With the white vinyl top and Pearl white interior, the car has a very striking and classy appearance. I get smiles and "thumbs up" and compliments whenever I take the car out.
I always liked the 1973 Riviera with its beautiful rear glass and boatail rear end. It had the same basic platform Buick had used since 1963 And has the big 455 4-bbl V8 engine. I like the rear end styling which give the car a unique look, They were classy boulevard cruisers that had a great ride and all the cabin comforts of a more modern car.
This Riviera GS is well equipped with the bucket dual power seats, tilt-telescopic steering wheel, am-fm-8 track radio, power antenna, rear window defogger, speed alert (see 2nd needle in speedometer photo), cruise control, chrome road wheels, and as you might expect, air conditioning, power windows and locks, and several other convenience options. To my knowledge, everything works except for the the clock. Many times the clock will work again with just a cleaning and lube.
As mentioned earlier, this Buick is in amazing original condition but there are a few flaws that did not show up very well in the photos. As you might expect from a unrestored 41year old car, the original lacquer paint is showing some cloudy/fuzziness on the top surfaces but as you can see in the photos, it still has a good reflection and looks darn good. There are a couple of small parking lot dings/chips on the body. Inside, the drivers door panel arm rest has one split as shown. The undercarriage has never been detailed and has no rust other than the normal surface rust on the unpainted pieces. These "defects" are very minor and as they say in the car hobby, "they are only original once" and for this reason, an unrestored car in this condition is always worth more than a restored one.
Mechanically the Riviera is in great shape and the car drives tight, smooth, and strong. The tires are older but they are still in good shape and ride smooth. The battery, brakes, fuel pump and so on are all good and I would not hesitate to drive the car anywhere.
The Riviera is located in Sycamore Il 60178 I will assist in any way I can in getting the car delivered to you. Please note that even though I do not have the Riviera advertised anywhere else, I do reserve the right to end the auction early if bidding is sluggish so please do not wait until the last minute to bid to avoid the disappointment of finding the auction closed. Finally, although I have done my best to accurately describe the car, it is, of course, sold as is without any warranty.
This Riviera is really a unique and special car and a real survivor. Unlike most older cars that have been abused, neglected, owned by a bunch of kids, and then had someone try to bring them back to life, this one has always been cared for and has had pride of ownership and it shows. I hope the new owner will carry on this tradition. Not only does the car deserve it, but by doing so you will preserve a piece of history and ensure your investment will continue to go up in value. Here is a chance to own a collectable car that is fun to drive, draws a lot of attention, and yet is affordable and does not require you invest a lot of money.
Please feel free to email or call me at 847-778-7911 with any questions you may have. I can usually be reached most afternoons and evenings.
Thanks for looking!

NHTSA may greatly expand GM airbag recall
Wed, 05 Jun 2013The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is pondering whether to dramatically upscale a pair of airbag recalls on General Motors vehicles. The two existing campaigns, one launched in the fall of 2012 and the other in January of this year covered just 6,845 vehicles, but the government agency is considering whether to boost the recall to around 400,000 units.
The existing recalls involve the the closely related 2012 Buick Verano (shown) and Chevrolet Cruze sedans, along with Sonic and Camaro models. The root of the problem is a shorting bar in the inflator module of the steering-wheel-mounted airbag that may contact the primary state airbag terminal, a condition that could prevent deployment in an accident. Dealer technicians have been replacing the steering wheel airbag coils to fix the issue.
According to a post on NHTSA's website, the root cause, said to be a production issue, may not have been completely isolated - particularly for the second recall, which was for the Camaro. According to Automotive News, GM says it is cooperating with the government investigation, but won't say whether or not it knows the true origin of the problem.
Weekly Recap: Ford GT inspires guitar, foosball table, sailboat
Sat, Apr 18 2015Ford design vice president Moray Callum had just wrapped up a briefing on the interior of the Ford GT last month, but something seemed out of place. He grinned and pointed behind him, "You might be wondering why I have a boat behind me," he said mischievously. It was there because Ford set its designers on a mission to stretch and showcase their talents: design non-automotive objects inspired by the interior of the GT supercar. Callum received quite a response, too. His team produced a guitar, a foosball table (yeah bro!), a racing sailboat, a Wi-Fi speaker and some furniture. As the veteran design chief explained, "It's a really great exercise both to highlight our designers' talents, but also to really see how our design philosophy can work and how you can use it and get a common response back from a worldwide design team." Guitar View 25 Photos The objects have been on display this week at the Salone del Mobile furniture and fashion design fair in Milan, Italy, where Ford has had a presence for three years. There's also a light exhibition that apparently was inspired by the GT, as well. While this might seem a little far-fetched for the automaker, Ford said exhibitions like the Salone del Mobile give its designers another way to be creative and ultimately produce striking interior style. Ford wants this to be a differentiator, as research shows consumers are placing emphasis on the layout and features inside when they're making a decision about buying a new car. It's a little light hearted – but it's also potentially big business. Other News & Notes Cadillac CT6 platform could be used for Buick General Motors product chief Mark Reuss said the Cadillac CT6 platform could be used for a large Buick, though "not yet," Automotive News reported. The underpinnings can accommodate rear-wheel or all-wheel drive and would give Buick the large flagship it lacks. The report jibes with comments Reuss made at a roundtable with Autoblog and other reporters at the New York Auto Show. When asked if Buick had space for a large car on the CT6 chassis, he replied, "Yeah, I think it does. Yeah, I think we do." Buick has revamped its lineup in recent years with attractive crossovers and small and midsize sedans, but hasn't added the proverbial flagship that's yearned for by enthusiasts. Buick surprised industry observers with the stylish Avenir concept at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year that raised the possibility of a halo sedan.
2015 Buick Verano gets styling tweak, loses 6-speed manual
Fri, 06 Jun 2014Well, all good things must come to an end. For 2015, the Buick Verano's experiment with a manual transmission will cease, as the American manufacturer has announced it will discontinue the 6MT in the turbocharged version of its compact sedan. According to Buick, the take rate on the Verano Turbo 6MT was (unsurprisingly) low, leading to its discontinuation.
That's not the only bit of news for the Verano, though. After a few years on the market, Buick has seen fit to refresh the popular sedan. The visual changes aren't huge, really, with subtle tweaks to the headlights and taillights. We'd bargain that the average passer-by wouldn't notice a difference between the two.
The main aesthetic change is a new appearance package, available on the mid-range Convenience and Leather option groups. Unimaginatively called just that - Appearance Package - it offers up a new paint color, Desert Dusk Metallic, as well as a grille treatment and a rear spoiler. The new package is, however, limited to naturally aspirated models.
