1970 Buick Riviera on 2040-cars
Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States
Up for auction is my 1970 Buick Riviera
which I have owned since 1995.
This is the perfect car for someone looking for a drivable project to tinker with. This car needs nothing major. This isn't a show car. That was never my goal, and therefore it is not perfect nor do I pretend it is perfect. It is a very presentable car that does turn heads. To the best of my knowledge, this car has spent most of it's life in dry climates. The person I bought the car from purchased it in South Dakota while stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base. Through items I found under the seats, such as gas charge slips etc from the early 70's, I believe this car originally sold new in Texas. It has always been garaged and kept dry since I took ownership of it. Power Windows. Power Seat. AM Radio. Tissue Dispenser. 4 Note Horns. Cornering Lamps. Cruise Control. Electric trunk release. Body Repainted about 5 years ago in the original code 61 Sandpiper Beige. Not a show finish, but an excellent driver quality. The only areas of rust on this car was on the rear quarters just above the wheel openings and fender skirts, both of which are a very common areas to rust on the '70 Riviera. The remainder of the body including floors, doors, lower rear quarters, front fenders and areas surrounding the windshield and rear window show evidence of always having been dry and solid. The fender skirts were replaced with rust free skirts from a donor car. The area of rust above the rear wheels was cut out and replaced with metal. I have noticed some bubbling of the paint beginning over these repairs this summer. The next project on my list for the body was a new vinyl top as the original has seen better days. Interior Interior is in very good condition, showing normal wear and tear as a 44 year old car will. A tear in the passenger seat vinyl is the worse of it. Carpet is good but this was another item I had plans to replace down the road. Dash pad is crack free. Steering wheel has typical cracks from age. Currently has an old cassette deck and equalizer installed. The original AM radio which works will be included with the car. Clock works! 455 Engine Completely rebuilt in 2007 using parts from TA Performance. Runs smooth and pulls hard. Because the original block had a badly scored cylinder, the block was replaced with a WF code block from a 1972 Electra. By 1972 GM made improvements to the oiling capabilities of the Buick 455 which were lacking in the 1970 455 block. The original 1970 69cc heads were retained. Block bored & honed .030 over. Crank turned & Polished .010 under. TA Performance stock compression 10:1 cast pistons. TA Cast iron rings. TA 212 Camshaft. Installed 4* advanced. TA Dual Grooved Camshaft Bearings. Rollmaster Double roller chain timing set. New TA lifters. New pushrods TA Oil pump rebuild kit with booster plate. TA 5/8” Oil pick up tube. (Stock is 1/2”) Eldelbrock Performer intake. New water pump. Heads rebuilt with new guides, seals. Valves replaced were needed. New stock 1.55 ratio rockers. New rocker shafts. TA Stage One valve springs. Brass freeze plugs 800cfm Quadrajet carburetor professionally built to spec by Everyday Performance. Crane Xri Points conversion. Internally regulated alternator. New radiator installed at time engine was rebuilt. Turbo 400 Transmission B&M Shift improver kit. B&M Holeshot 2400 converter. (Original factory converter will be included with car) New front and rear seals. New rear mount included with car. Exhaust 2.5” TA Performance mandrel bent exhaust system with Dynomax Super Turbo mufflers. Suspension Front suspension has newer control arm bushings. New center link and idler arm installed. I have new lower and upper ball joints that haven't been installed but will come with the car. Newer shocks. This car has been an ongoing project over the years and is not finished. Here are some items that were on my To-Do list. Brakes. which work fine but should be gone over and rebuilt. Vinyl top. Trunk carpeting. The AC isn't currently working, I haven't bothered looking into it more closely, but it did blow cold the last time it did run. Positive battery cable is one that came with car when I bought it, and was spliced by a previous owner. I do have a complete original starter to battery replacement that will be included with the car. The vacuum hoses for the cruise control need to be replaced. Items included with the car. Replacement stock positive battery cable. Upper ball joints. One replacement outer tie rod end. Original torque converter. Original AM radio. 1970 Buick Service manual. 1970
Buick assembly manual. Car is listed for sale locally, and I reserve the right to end this listing early. Car is sold as-is, where is.

Opel Cascada is Europe's Buick convertible [w/video]
Wed, 17 Oct 2012As we reported earlier, there has been much speculation regarding a Buick convertible of sorts. The most ringing endorsement of this conjecture comes today from General Motors Europe, as the new Opel Cascada has debuted on the interwebs. Opel calls the four-passenger Cascada an "athletic, glamorous midsize convertible." With a length of 4,697mm (185 in.), the Cascada is as long as an Audi A5, to which GM has said it would be slightly larger.
The Cascada, which is Spanish for waterfall, features a cloth convertible top that retracts in 17 seconds and at speeds up to 50 km/h (31 mph). The Cascada features a 1.4-liter turbo gas engine, 2.0-liter turbodiesel with 165 horsepower and a range-topping 1.6-liter turbocharged Ecotec engine that puts out 170 horsepower and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft). Power is sent through either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.
According to GM, the Cascada will also come rife with luxury and tech features. In addition to adaptive forward lighting and ergonomic heated front seats, the convertible will feature Opel Eye, which is a front camera that can recognize traffic signs and incorporates lane departure warning and forward collision alert.
Buick's Velite 5 is a rebadged Chevy Volt for China
Mon, Mar 27 2017There's nary a mention of the famous Chevy Bowtie badge in Buick's press release for its new Velite 5. No shoutouts to the extended-range Volt, with which the Chinese-market Velite clearly borrows its hybrid gasoline/electric technology. But that's okay; to borrow an adage, if it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's probably a duck. And, as you can see from the image above, the Buick Velite 5 is a duck Volt with a Tri-Shield badge. The Velite 5's 1.5-liter engine and lithium ion battery pack provide up to 466 miles of range, with the first 62 miles or so coming on battery power alone. That's more range than Chevy quotes for the Volt, so we're not sure what methodology Buick is using to calculate mileage. Still, even if it's more like the Volt's estimated range of 53 real-world miles, it would be enough for many Chinese drivers to avoid the gas station altogether. Buick showed off a Velite Concept late last year that doesn't appear to share much at all with this new Volt-based production model. But since the brand is promising more plug-ins and EVs in the coming years, we wouldn't be surprised to see further models carrying the Velite moniker, perhaps one based on the all-electric Chevy Bolt EV. PSA's purchase of Opel from GM is expected to be finalized soon
Sat, Mar 4 2017PSA's purchase of the Opel/Vauxhall division from General Motors is expected to be officially announced on Monday, according to The New York Times. PSA, the parent company of European automakers Peugeot and Citroen, will reportedly hold a joint press conference with GM in Paris to announce the deal. GM has worked as part of an alliance with PSA in Europe since 2012. The deal could be a big boon for both companies. For PSA, the addition of Opel and Vauxhall into its fold would catapult the automaker into second place behind Volkswagen for European marketshare, and would allow the company to spend research and development costs across a greater number of vehicles. And GM, which has struggled in recent years to turn a profit with its European division, would be able to focus more squarely on the areas where it's most profitable and to invest in future technologies like automation. But the deal isn't without its potential pitfalls, primarily for PSA. GM hasn't been able to make a success of Opel and Vauxhall, and it's not a sure bet that PSA will, either. What's more, the addition of Opel and Vauxhall doesn't expand PSA's reach any further into new markets, like China or India. The NYT cites data from Ferdinand Dudenhoffer, a professor at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany, showing that 70 percent of PSA and Opel business is done in Europe, a market that has been shrinking since 1999. We'll have to wait a few days to see exactly how the deal between PSA and GM will be structured. We're also curious to see how the loss of Opel may affect GM's lineup in the States, especially for Buick, since the company's Regal sedan is based on the European Opel Insignia. In other words, stay tuned. Related Video:
