1997 Buick Regal Gs - Driveable But Has Structural Rust Issues on 2040-cars
Homerville, Ohio, United States
Hello, I'm selling my 1997 Buick Regal GS, with supercharged 3800 engine. Up until this week, it has been my daily driver. It still looks pretty nice, but is very rusted underneath. The worst points are the pinch welds and rocker panels which are rotted out, and both rear strut towers are partially rusted through - the suspension is still in place and rides nice, but needs repair to be safe to drive. The rust is only visible in small spots around the rear fenderwells, otherwise the paint and body are in good shape, a few small dings and chips.
It runs and drives great, the transmission shifts smoothly, and starts every morning. It does have high mileage (174k) but you would never guess it by driving it. The interior is in excellent shape, all gray leather, seats look like they've hardly been used, headliner perfect. All electric features work correctly (with the exception of the horn and autodimming mirror) In fact I just put in a rear window regulator before I decided to sell it. The wheels are from a newer Buick, not perfect but decent shape. Tires and brakes are not new but have some life left. I've replaced quite a few parts underneath due to rust since I've owned it including: brake lines, fuel lines, fuel tank and filler neck, power steering lines, and muffler. Also done in the last 60k miles or so: all 4 struts and mounts, A/C condenser, plugs and wires, among many other minor repairs. I offer no guarantees on this vehicle, and drive at your own risk. I do not believe it is safe to drive without metal repair to the rear strut towers. |

2013 Opel Cascada
Tue, 24 Sep 2013The Future Buick Verano Convertible?
I wasn't wearing a pedometer while in Germany covering the Frankfurt Motor Show this year, but it's safe to say I walked more than a few miles between press conferences, shooting cars and trekking back to the media center on the first day alone. For this reason, it didn't take much convincing from General Motors for me to duck out of the Messe a day early and drive some of its latest Opel models. No, this didn't include the all-new Country Tourer, but I was able to drive the Opel Mokka (our Buick Encore), the Opel Adam and the Opel Cascada.
I focused most of my driving time behind the wheel of the Cascada, which went on sale in Europe earlier this year, since rumors are swirling that a Buick version of this convertible "could happen soon." Buick hasn't had a convertible since the Reatta, and GM has been lacking a non-performance, budget-minded convertible since the Pontiac brand - and its G6 - was dropped, so adding the Cascada to Buick showrooms could further help the reemerging brand compete in the near-luxury segment. Although the weather was too chilly (and occasionally rainy) to enjoy the Cascada with its top down for very long, I was able to clock a fair bit of drive time behind the wheel on roads ranging from the autobahn to tight roads in small, quaint villages.
Buick version of Equinox/Terrain CUV spied testing... with autonomous gear?
Wed, 12 Jun 2013Let's get the most pressing bits of this story out of the way right off the bat: What we see here appears to be a new compact crossover from Buick. According to the spy photographer, this machine may be a little bit smaller on the outside than the current Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain 'utes, which makes sense since recent rumors suggest GM's small crossovers will migrate to a new platform that will mark a convergence between the automaker's Delta (Chevy Cruze, Buick Verano) and Theta (Equinox, Terrain) platforms. This Buick would likely use this new D2UX platform.
We've been expecting Buick to unleash a crossover to slot between the very small Encore and the very large Enclave, and various rumors have indicated that the model may be known as either the Anthem or Envision. It's worth mentioning that Buick had planned, back in 2009, to release a vehicle in the compact CUV market, but abandoned those plans after a particularly poor reception.
And now for something completely different... Take another look at the spy shots above, and pay special attention to the cylindrical device mounted to the vehicle's roof. We can't say for sure what it is, but our spy photographer opines that it looks quite a bit like the 360-degree Lidar camera equipment used by Google for its autonomous cars. Is General Motors working with Google on autonomous car technology? We don't know, but you can definitely consider us intrigued.
Leno recalls '90s showdown with Tim Allen and his mullet
Wed, Oct 7 2015Not many of us have buddies with garages full of classic cars, but that isn't the case for Jay Leno and Tim Allen. Of course, one of the advantages for two guys with such vast collections is occasionally getting to pit their cars against each other. The two comedians did just that in the mid-'90s with a burnout battle on The Tonight Show between Allen in a race-prepped Mustang and Leno in a drag racer. After some time away from regular television, Leno is returning to the airwaves with a Jay Leno's Garage series premiering on Oct. 7 (tonight) at 10:00 p.m. ET on CNBC. Let this clip serve as another taste of what to expect for the new TV show's mix of comedy and cars. After reminiscing about the old days in a gorgeous garage, the comedians get into two modern machines to reprise the classic challenge – after a little trash talk anyway. Don't worry because the YouTube series isn't going anywhere, though.
