Rare GN with T-tops, Electronic climate control, Digital dash display. less than 5,500 made with T-tops in 1986, I can only imagine must less made with the other extras. This car was faster than the 1986 Corvette. Original paint and body, which needs work with rust and a couple dents. New plugs and wires. Comes with extra set of wheels and tires. Never raced.it's been sitting for the past few years until I finally got her back going. Inspected and registered with historical plates and cheap collector's insurance. Priced to sell, and reflects the condition. Will help to a degree with dealing with a carrier that you pick. If you driven one, you will know the sheer joy this car and engine brings you!!!!!!!!

Buick's velvet hammer is ripe for the picking.
If you're a member of that demographic set dubbed Generation X, the 1986 Buick Grand National hardly requires an introduction. It was the big-block Chevelle of its day and was dethroned as the king of the 1980s muscle cars only after GM's G-body ceased production, leaving the ambitious 5.0-liter Mustang to fill the power vacuum.
Turbo Buicks had been around since the late 1970s, but the addition of an intercooler to the hair-dried 3.8L V-6 in 1986 was the catalyst that transformed a merely good engine into a great one. From 1985's rating of 200 horsepower, power jumped to 235--with 330 robust pound-feet of torque. And while that doesn't seem like headline-worthy output today, it came from only 231 cubic inches, and happened during the era of 85-horsepower econo cars. Heck, the 1986 Corvette's small-block V-8 was only rated at 230 ponies
From an appearance standpoint, the 1986 GN wore the same sinister, all-black paint scheme, front air dam, and rear spoiler as 1985's non-intercooled model, but new chrome wheels replaced the previous, vane-style rims. Inside, the seats carried the distinctive "forward six" logo that had been associated with Turbo Buicks since the 1970s. Positraction was optional and a 3.42-geared rearend was standard.
Out of the box, the Grand National could hit 60 mph in about 5 seconds flat and, if the driver was good and the air was cool, clip the quarter-mile in 13.9 seconds. Nothing--and we mean nothing--was running 13s from an American factory in those days. And it didn't take long for enthusiasts to start tinkering with boost pressure and computer chips, making a GN with a cold-air intake scoop beneath the front bumper, a fuel pressure gauge attached to the hood, and fatter rear tires a common sight.
But while the ominous-looking, Darth Vader-black Grand National drew all the attention, sneaky enthusiasts found they could order the same powertrain in the lighter Regal T-Type--and choose colors other than black. More than 5,500 GNs were built in 1986, while only 1,900 T-Types hit the streets. Even more rare are the WH1-equipped T-Types, which included the GN rear spoiler and black paint with a silver center section.
As one of icons of the 1980s, the intercooled Grand National has always been popular. Word of its street supremacy traveled quickly in 1986, and production jumped to just over 20,000 1987 examples, which featured 245 horses and 355 foot-pounds of twist. But comparatively speaking, few (5,512) were built in 1986.
Like the popular muscle cars of the 1960s, many Grand National owners were quick to modify their cars, so low-mileage and unmodified examples are getter scarce. Also, the original lacquer paint jobs were notoriously thin and haven't stood up well over the years--even on otherwise well-preserved examples. Excellent, original cars are out there, but most will cost you.
Then again, when it comes to investments from the big hair days, there's hardly a more sure thing than the bad, black Grand National.

The new Buick Regal looks like a Mazda, and we're totally cool with that
Mon, Dec 5 2016Yes, this undisguised Opel Insignia, which will be brought here as the next Buick Regal, looks a lot like a Mazda. You can see it in the grille and headlights, especially – in fact, if you look at one of the photos with tape blocking out the badge in the middle of the winged grille, you might think this is a new Mazda6. The thing is, Mazdas look pretty darn good, so no one's complaining. And when you look at the rest of the car, there's a fair amount of originality going on. Aside from the GM-generic taillights (they look like they could fit on a Chevy, right?) the lines and details are all pretty fresh, and there are some design elements pulled from Buick's gorgeous Avista concept. A sweeping roofline leads to some healthy shoulders at the back, creating a coupe-ish profile with a very abbreviated rear deck. This appears to be a hatchback model and not the four-door sedan, but the general look should carry over. This is definitely a big improvement over the somewhat bulbous current-generation Regal, which also started life out as an Insignia. The car shown here is the Insignia OPC model, with Brembo brakes, big wheels, side skirts, and a front end with big (likely fake) intakes. It will most likely translate to a Regal GS for our market, as is the case with the current OPC and GS. The new Regal/Insignia is expected to use the same platform as the new Buick LaCrosse, which is also shared by the Chevy Malibu and Impala. They should once again be available with front- or all-wheel drive and a choice of turbocharged four-cylinder engines. Rumor has the Opel versions debuting at the Geneva show March, and the Buick would likely follow, possibly in New York in April. View 13 Photos And then there's the wagon. All signs point to Buick finally bringing the most practical Insignia to our market as a Regal. We got wind of a focus group testing the idea, Buick has trademarked the name Regal Tour X. That version would likely go up against the Audi Allroad in the classy, slightly lifted all-wheel-drive wagon category, basically acting as an almost-crossover for people who want a wagon but won't admit it to themselves. The Insignia wagon caught here is also an OPC, and we think it looks even more handsome than the hatch-sedan shown above. The trim piece stretching from the base of the A-pillar all the way up and back down to the tail is a nice touch in profile view, although we're not so sure about how it terminates abruptly at the taillight.
2018 Buick Regal TourX starts right around $30,000
Wed, Jun 28 2017The all-new Buick Regal is coming, and it's ditching the sedan bodystyle in favor of two liftback variants. This week, CarsDirect reported pricing on the more interesting of the two, the Regal TourX. While we're waiting on an official confirmation from Buick, at $29,995 (presumably before destination), the lifted-wagon will significantly undercut competitors from BMW, Volvo, and Audi. With standard all-wheel drive and a powerful turbocharged inline-four, the Regal TourX has the potential to steal som sales from the Europeans. CarsDirect bases its report on the latest Buick order guides. All versions of the Regal TourX come with all-wheel drive and a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four making 250 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque. The only available transmission is an eight-speed automatic. Push-button start, active-noise cancellation, and 18-inch wheels are part of the package. The Regal TourX Preferred bumps the price to $33,575. For the extra few hundred dollars, you get an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather-wrapped steering wheel, power driver's seat, and door sill plates. There are also more colors available than on the base model. Further options include a $1,240 driver's assistance package with blind-spot monitoring, rear park assist, and cross-traffic alert, and a $1,200 panoramic moonroof. A fully loaded, top-trim Regal TourX rings in at $38,860. Direct competitors are difficult to name. The pricing is above something like the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack, but far less than the Audi A4 Allroad, Volvo V60 Cross Country, or a BMW 3 Series wagon. It ought to offer more power and refinement than a Subaru Outback, but we'll have to wait to drive it before we can make a final call. Buick Riviera Concept debuts in China
Fri, 19 Apr 2013It's nighttime in China, and Buick has just concluded an evening event the day before the first - and only - press day of the Shanghai Motor Show. The star of this evening's party was the Buick Riviera concept vehicle, a plug-in electric hybrid coupe that the automaker says gives a glimpse at its future design direction, not to mention resurrecting some nomenclature from the brand's history that includes a similarly named concept from 2007.
The shape of the Riviera is said to be inspired by water. While the traditional Buick "waterfall" grille is present, the front end gains a more aggressive note thanks to what appear to be vertical air inlets below each headlight.
As for the concept's drivetrain, Buick says it uses General Motors' new dual-mode wireless plug-in hybrid electric vehicle propulsion system, or W-PHEV for short. The keyword there is 'wireless,' as the Riviera can charge its onboard battery packs with a traditional cable or wirelessly via a "sensory recharge panel" underneath the car.
