1975 Buick LeSabre Custom convertible. Brief history; Bought new by my in-laws on April 8, 1975 in Province of Alberta, Canada for the sum of 5,656.00 CD. (bill of sale from the dealer, and bank regarding satisfaction of Chattel Mortgage are included, along with other docs; Owner's Manual, Warranty Card, Accessory pamphlet, Color stub., other) Used sporadically and given to me in 1985. with then mileage of 33+Kmiles. Next, I drove it to LA, California ( a distance of over 1300 miles) where I used rarely till 2006. Next I drove it to Florida where I don't use it at all. Following are modifications performed in California, not necessarily in chronological order; 1. Rear main engine seal replaced. The original was dry and leaked some oil in my garage. 2. New Midas muffler installed 3. New tires fitted 4. All oils and fluids changed including differential. 5 New Holly carb installed. Original Rochester Quadrajet, although fully functional, could not be adjusted to satisfy California emissions control. 6. New top installed as the original black color top turned to the undescript after 5 years under California sun. 7. New Glove Compartment installed. 8. All rubber gaskets for windows, doors, trunk, and windshield were replaced. 9. Large volume electric fan with thermostat was installed for no technical reason. 10. New break pads installed 11. MSD ignition system was installed to help pollution control. Modifications made in Florida; 1. New Wal-Mart Battery installed ( 11/15/2013) 2. Top motor and relay replaced. 3. New break lines, master cylinder and oversized buster installed. On Jan-26-14 at 04:32:50 PST, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention that new rear coils and shocks were also installed while in California, as well new floor carpet. Specific for this vehicle. This car has the original "no radio" dashboard, but I have NOS board with radio cut-out from American made Buick as I planned to add radio, but I couldn't find suitable original 1975 Buick unit for this car.. That dashboard is included with this car for the winner at no extra charge. The new top motor opens the top very fast, but closes it slowly. It looks like it could use adjustment by qualified mechanic. There is a small seam open on the driver's seat that needs to be re-stitched. The car drives excellent, and produces soft and comfortable ride. In my experience it gets 20 MPG on the open road, and approx. 15 in town. It is mostly due to the "Cadillac type" tires that are 12% oversized It is 6 pass car, and it has 6 seat belt sets. 1975 was the first year of NO Lead gas and so it is inscribed in English and French at the fuel cap. Since it became antique car there are no pollution controls required and original the catalytic converted was removed and replaced with a pipe. |

2014 Buick Regal GS
Mon, 09 Sep 2013A few months ago I drove the 2014 Buick LaCrosse and wrote up a First Drive review of it. For all of my quibbles with that sedan (and I had a fair number), I understand that it speaks to the heart of what new Buick loyalists like in a car; it's roomy, has a cushy ride and is as placid as a summer's morning at highway speeds.
Those qualities, while undeniably desirable, don't mean a whole lot to me personally. I prefer sedans that conjure up words like "nimble," "punchy" or even "raucous" on occasion. So, directionally, the high-performance GS version of the 2014 Buick Regal is more my cup of tea than any other car in the company's current range.
In fact, I'd already come to know the Regal GS from its 2012 model year introduction, and grown more than a little fond of the sporting sedan in its original front-wheel-drive, six-speed-manual guise. The fast, sweet-handling car with well-sorted controls may have suffered from a slight identity crisis in terms of pricing (and may still), but it was undeniably fun to drive. So, when I heard that the GS was coming to market for 2014 with optional all-wheel drive (albeit only in combination with a six-speed automatic transmission), I was stoked to have another go and concentrated my driving impressions on the AWD car.
Refreshed 2019 Buick Envision gets sharper edges, optional nine-speed transmission
Fri, Feb 23 2018After 18 months on the market in the United States, the Buick Envision took its place as the third-best-selling vehicle among Buick's eight models, slotting in behind the Encore and Enclave. January sales this year jumped 13.7-percent year-over-year, just a few hundred behind the Enclave. Now, the Chinese-made compact SUV gets a modest makeover, but buyers of the 2019 Buick Envision will need to reach up into the upper trims to access the best of what's new. The big mechanical upgrade comes with the option of GM's Hydra-Matic 9T50 nine-speed automatic instead of standard the six-speed. However, that appears to be limited to just two of the five available Envision trims: Premium I and Premium II. The base, Preferred, and Essence models stick with the six-speed only. Design changes center around the front and rear fascias. The grille motif switches to a be-winged Buick emblem - in tri-color spec, not monochrome - over the previous waterfall, matching that of the sibling crossovers. The lower front fascia gets redrawn, with the fog lights at the edges now sitting in square recesses with reworked chrome trim and sharper edges on the bumper. Premium trims move up from HID projectors to bi-LED headlights, while the other three trims shed their composite halogens for HID lights. According to the 2019 order guide, Ebony seats with Dark Plum interior accents leave the menu, replaced by Dark Galvanized leather seats with Ebony trim. White interior lighting will illuminate the instrument panel and door trim, replacing Ice Blue, and comfort/convenience tweaks come in the form of wireless phone charging, an cabin air ionizer and a button to shut off the stop-start system. The latter would be a noteworthy upgrade as it's been a common complaint logged against so-equipped GM vehicles. In back, design elements get sharper edges, and the taillights switch to slimmer LED units. Designers have hidden the single exhaust outlet on the lower three trims with the base, 197-horsepower 2.5-liter engine. It appears that choosing the optional, 252-hp 2.0-liter engine will be identified by dual rectangular exhaust finishers instead of the round tips of previous years. Exterior colors hold steady at six, but Midnight Amethyst Metallic gives way to Satin Steel Gray Metallic, and the current 19-inch wheels get replaced with two new designs. The 2019 Buick Envision has already gone on sale in China, and should reach U.S. dealers in April. Related Video:
2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year entries announced
Wed, Jul 6 2016Over 40 vehicles will compete for the 2017 North American Car, Truck, and Utility of the Year awards. If that name looks a little strange, it's because the competition added a third category. In years past, pickup trucks, crossovers, SUVs, commercial vans, and minivans competed for the same award. That's why there were occasionally weird comparisons, like last year's competition between the Volvo XC90 and Nissan Titan XD. The new format separates pickups and commercial vans into the truck contest and CUVs, SUVs, and minivans into the utility competition. A complete list of eligible vehicles is below, but here are a few highlights. For one, the entire list of entries has a luxurious lean. Of the 43 vehicles, nearly half of them are from premium brands. There are two eligible Bentleys – the Bentayga and Mulsanne – the Rolls-Royce Dawn, Jaguar F-Pace, Audi Q7, and the Mercedes-Benz GLS-, E-, and S-Class Maybach. The performance ranks are lofty, too, with the Audi R8, Acura NSX, Alfa Romeo Giulia, Mercedes SL- and SLC-Class, Porsche 718, and F-150 Raptor. The mainstream entries are just as comprehensive. From the Chrysler Pacifica to the Chevrolet Cruze to the Fiat 124 Spider to the Mitsubishi Mirage, NACTOY has covered an enormous price range with this year's contestants. Of course, these are only the eligible vehicles. They'll need to run through three rounds of judging, starting in September at NACTOY's traditional Hell, MI, test drive. The Canadian and American journalists involved in the judging will announce this year's nine finalists – three in each category – on December 6.
