1968 Buick Lesabre Custom Convertible 2-door 5.7l on 2040-cars
Westport, Connecticut, United States
NO RESERVE!!! Up for sale this 1968 Buick LeSabre Custom 400 convertible. One of Detroit's best boulevard cruisers in my opinion. Only 5257 produced of which how many had the options this car did is anyone's guess. Originally sold by Jerry Smith Buick in St. Louis Missouri (still retains the original badge) this car led a pampered life and during the 80's was purchased as a Shriner parade car and I was told it was kept garaged for most of its life. I purchased it in Kansas from the estate of the second owner last year, threw some new tires on it and drove it back to CT with no issues. How the car was maintained over the years shows in the brightwork, chome and interior. Repainted 1x in original color it has a shiny glossy finish but definitely not a high end job but not a 20 footer either and still maintains it's original interior. Numbers matching original motor and transmission with just over 100K miles. The Super 400 Turbine Transmission was touted by many as one of the best GM ever produced shifts flawlessly without hesitation jerk or surging. Engine runs fantastic with no knocks rattles or shakes and drives down the highway just as nice. The exhaust is loud at the manifold and the exhaust manifold gasket was replaced 2x yet still persists. My mechanic stated its more than likely due to the way the Y pipe sleeves into the manifold but just so you are aware of though it does give the car a nice rumble. No fluid leaks and runs cool. Power brakes stop on a dime with no pulling or uneven stopping. Power steering you can steer with your pinky. Horn, lights and blinkers all working. Even the original AM radio works as does the lighter. Power top goes up and down flawlessly and no rips or tears in the top and glass convertible window is in good shape. All glass on car is original soft ray glass and manual crank windows with no hazing to the corners
Many receipts and original window sticker and warranty book with metal protect o plate. Has stock Buick mag rims including spare but missing one of the centers. Very shiny paint and only minor bubbling at the bottom of the right fender with some cracking along the trim/beltline where it appears there may have been some skim coating or a previous dent repair. There also is some paint flaked off on the drivers side front fender but floor pans, frame, rocker panels, cross members and trunk are rock solid and body is free of waves and ripples and as I said before it presents very nicely. Doors close solid with a nice thunk and no sag All body panel gaps are nice . All A/C components are in place including the fan belt on compressor but didn't test the a/c climate control system (hey it's a convertible) so assume it needs servicing or conversion. Heat works fine. Drive as is or take to the next level. In short a lovely car that will only appreciate in value We are only selling as we have several antique cars and simply not enough time or space to enjoy all of them. Local buyers are encouraged to stop by and check out the car and delivery is possible within a reasonable distance but only once paid in full. We are near all major transportation and right off the innerstate if you opt to ship the car. Please only serious bidders. We have bought and sold several cars over the years with 100 percent positive feedback but are not mechanics or car dealers. Once again we are selling with NO RESERVE to the highest bidder and the car is NOT for sale locally so wherever the auction ends it ends! Please email any questions. Thanks for stopping and good luck! |

GM slashes prices in China as sales falter
Thu, May 14 2015Buying a vehicle from General Motors' stable of brands might be a lot cheaper in the near future – at least for customers in China. The effort comes as GM hopes to keep sales there growing, and the decision alludes to yet another sign that the Asian country no longer has the booming auto market of past years. GM and its Chinese joint venture partner SAIC are slashing prices by as much as the equivalent to $8,700 on 40 models from Buick, Chevrolet, and Cadillac, according to The Detroit News. Across all of automaker's nameplates, the overall sales dipped in China in April by 0.4 percent to 258,484 vehicles. Among the drops, Buick was down 8.5 percent, and Chevy shrunk 5.6 percent. Caddy's numbers increased 4.6 percent for the month, though. Buick remains a popular brand in the minds of Chinese consumers, but according to The Detroit News domestic automakers there are starting to eat into the dominance of foreign companies in the market. The country remains important for GM, though. Late last year, it outlined a future strategy that included China as a major pillar, including a $14 billion investment to build five new factories and boost sales. 2013 Buick Encore
Wed, 14 Aug 2013Ignored On Arrival, But Coming On Strong
An image exists out there that perfectly conveys the fate we thought would befall the Buick Encore after its world debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The shot shows the just-unveiled Encore on stage, basking in the glow of spotlights but surrounded by a large display area that's bereft of both cars and people. Two journalists are sitting on a couch over to the side, both facing the Encore but ignoring it as they inspect their swag, and a solitary custodial engineer pushes a vacuum back and forth across a sea of gray carpet.
Like a kid with his birthday cake at a party no one came to, this little crossover's debut was largely, almost cruelly, ignored. Who can blame us, though? Two shows ago, the Motor City's main stage welcomed the redesigned Aston Martin-esque Ford Fusion, the 3 Series-assassin ATS from Cadillac and the return of Dodge to the small car game with the Dart. A fourth model for the wayward Buick brand, especially one so arguably un-Buick in form and function, did not seem to deserve the attention paid to its peers that year.
Hyundai, Buick dealer apologize in wake of Chinese baby social media incident
Sat, 09 Mar 2013A very strange story out of China today, as Hyundai and a Chinese Buick dealer were forced to face allegations of using allusions to an infamous child murder on a social media site as a way of promoting the safety features of their respective vehicles.
The original sad tale goes something like this: On March 4, a man reported to police that he had left his infant child in a running Toyota RAV4 while he ran into a supermarket briefly. When he came back out, the vehicle and the child were gone. Later in the week a suspect turned himself in to the police; confessing to them that he had stolen a sport-utility vehicle, strangled the infant that was in it, and then buried the child in the snow.
As you might imagine, the gristly incident was covered massively in the Chinese media. (There was huge public outcry as well, as evidenced by the vigil scene, above.) "Changchun baby abduction" was very quickly amongst the highest ranking search teams of the China's Weibo social media site - an equivalent of Twitter in the English-speaking world.
