If you clicked this ad, you most likely already know these T-Types or Turbo Ts are the same car as a Grand National, but lighter, rarer, and available with more options. You also know that 86-87 are the only years you should really be looking at because of changes in the design such as the intercooler. This is a very lightly modified example compared to many I have owned. Off the top of my head, the upgrades are as follows:

  • 42lb/hr injectors
  • Turbo Tweak chip
  • RJC boost fitting
  • Tin Man air intake
  • Billet aluminum fuel pressure regulator
  • What I believe to be a Hooker cat-back dual exhaust
  • Scanmaster 2.1
  • Alarm/security system with remote locks and remote start
  • GN1 Performance aluminum radiator

I also have extra parts to be included with the sale including:

  • Spare stock downpipe and cat
  • Upgraded fuel pump
  • Fuel pump hotwire kit
  • Spare billet FPR
  • Factory air intake
  • etcetera

This T-Type starts right up and runs great. It pulls very strong for a stock turbo car. I have never taken it down the track, but feel confident enough to say it is a mid-12 second car in the quarter comparing it to my other T-Type I have raced. There is no rust that I can find anywhere in the car and all electric options work. The paint is original as are the bumper fillers. The car originally came with a Parchment White vinyl roof that was removed because there was a split in it. I have all the trim if you'd like to replace the vinyl top. The paint is not perfect. There are scrapes and scratches. Most notably, there is a dent in the middle-rear of the roof (the reason the vinyl top split most likely) and there is a dent in the driver rear quarter from something inside the trunk hitting it. It looks pretty good even without the vinyl top though. This is also an original chrome trim car. The grille was plastidipped black by the previous owner. That is easy to remove if you don't like it or you can finish off the look and do the rest of the trim which I think would look pretty awesome. The interior has no rips or tears, but the pull straps need one or two of those escutcheon plates that always seems to fall off and the driver power lock button is not mounted to the door panel as it should be. I think it just needs to be clipped back in, but I haven't popped off the bottom of the door panel to do so. The headliner has already been redone and looks great. The car also has practically new tires on the original aluminum T-Type wheels. The powermaster unit has also already been replaced, so no worries there. There are no check engine or other idiot lights on the dash and the oil pressure is great.

Bottom line is this is a very solid, original 87 Buick T-Type that would be an awesome driver or platform to build for your new project. Many pictures below. Please allow time for the slideshow to load.

Buick Avenir Concept saunters into Detroit [w/video]

Mon, Jan 12 2015

We'd never accuse the most recent crop of Buicks of being ugly. Then again, we'd also never argue that they're overly pretty. Instead, they waltz along a middle ground, not standing out while not causing offense. The Buick Avenir Concept occupies no such middle ground – it's gorgeous. A long hood and a short deck fit well with an evolved form of Buick's long-running design language, while traditional highlights such as the waterfall grille and portholes mingle nicely with newer touches, like a beautiful, curvaceous set of rear haunches that bleed into the rear decklid. The cabin, meanwhile, is solidly in the concept realm, with a prominent 12-inch touchscreen as its centerpiece. Like the exterior, the Avenir's cabin is an evolution of current Buick designs, with a curve that tops the dash and feeds into the doors. A higher center console is finished in buffed wood, although the majority of the interior materials appear to be fine leather. Check out our gallery of live images of the new Avenir, at the Buick stand at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The Avenir – French for future – is distinguished by its premium sports proportions and all-new interpretations of traditional Buick cues. It is the creation of a global team of Buick designers and sculptors who were inspired by historic Buick concepts, which pushed traditional boundaries, shaped future Buick models and influenced the entire auto industry. "Avenir embodies Buick design, which centers on effortless beauty and presence without pretense," said Ed Welburn, vice president of General Motors Global Design. "It demonstrates the growing international reach of Buick and offers an exciting vision of where it can go." The Avenir's sculptural surfacing, expressive proportion and Buick's signature sweep-spear bodyside visually cue an exceptional driving experience that awaits inside. "The interior is designed with the driver and passengers' comfort and well-being in mind," said Welburn.

Answering The $30,000 Entry-Level Luxury Question
Twenty years ago, a comparison between an entry-level Buick and Acura would have matched a Skylark against an Integra.
Twenty years ago, a comparison between an entry-level Buick and its Acura equivalent would have matched a Skylark against an Integra. The unfair battle would have resulted in the compact American's defeat in nearly every measurable category, as the Japanese competitor was arguably at the height of its powers.

1987 Buick Grand National was made to be Kevin Hart's 'Dark Knight'

Fri, Nov 4 2022

The Meguiar's booth at the SEMA show isn't the only place comedian and actor Kevin Hart is combining cars and cinema, his "Michael Myers" 1969 Plymouth Road Runner brooding in the car care products pen, while his SpeedKore "Hellraiser" 1970 Dodge Charger also menaces. Hart bought a 1987 Buick GNX last year and put it on Instagram with the caption, "Sundays are perfect for old school drives…. If you know you know." Looks like old G-Bodies are perfect for restomod builds, too, which we all already knew, but this car isn't the GNX that featured on social media. This is the 1987 Buick Grand National, one step below the GNX and half the price at the time. It's nicknamed "Dark Knight" and it's one of the stars of the Magnaflow exhaust booth at SEMA. Going back to work with regular collaborators Dave Salvaggio of Salvaggio Design and Sean Smith, of course there's a lot involved in the overhaul. Still, we appreciate how the team stayed true to the ethos of the Grand National in ways that made the build more complicated than it already was. Take the engine. The original came with a 3.8-liter V6 wearing a single turbocharger to register an official output of 245 horsepower and 355 pound-feet of torque compared to the GNX's 276 hp and 320 lb-ft. Instead of swapping it for a V8, it's been replaced with the 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 from the Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing. And instead of leaving both turbos on, the engine junkies plumbed a single turbo in a layout recalling the 1987 engine even as it cleans up the original Chutes 'n' Ladders mess of tubes. We didn't get an output rating for the setup. The Cadillac's twin-turbo mill makes 472 hp and 445 lb-ft. in the CT4-V Blackwing. We would bet Dark Knight's engine's pretty close to that with the single large turbo at the prow, plenty of juice for a car weighing 3,545 pounds. Exterior upgrades include a custom front fascia with a carbon fiber hood and splitter. The interior shows the same tasteful restraint, polished design and nicer materials draped over the stock 1980s layout. That shifter controls GM's 8L90 eight-speed automatic instead of the original four-speed auto.  Elsewhere, Salvaggio did the same here as with the Michael Myers Road Runner, creating a custom frame to increase rigidity and get the car closer to the ground on its 19-inch HRE wheels in the Buick's original weave look.
