87 Buick Grand National. 82k original miles, all stock except a computer chip, air filter, and adjustable wastegate which were installed in the 90's.  Looks great from 20 feet away, undercarriage is solid, floors, trunk, rockers, doors, frame etc are all rust free. Car was driven very little and in fair weather only. Sat under a tree for a while in my driveway so the hood and trunk lid have spots from acid rain or sap or whatever but the sides look great. The tops don't leak. It runs great and has tons of power, the rear end is posi and works, the turbo spools up nice, the transmission shifts perfect. This car has not been restored and it get driven about 500 miles a year so it's not a show queen and you can expect some minor scratches and chips and dings from being over 25 years old. I have the original build sheet showing the Grand National and Hatch Roof options. I also have some oil change receipts showing the mileage is accurate. Clean title. OK now for the negatives - there's a hole in the drivers seat the size of a quarter, the carpet is somewhat worn, some of the interior trim needs restoring, the headliner fabric was sagging so now its gone, its missing one center cap, the 3 is missing on the hood where it says 3.8 litre, there's a scratch on the rear quarter panel I took a close-up picture of it. Manual windows and locks.AM/FM and cassette, no CD player or iphone jack.  I was driving it the other day and the red brake light came on and there was no power brakes. My mechanic thinks it needs a new accumulator on the powermaster brake system because there's no leaks in the system and all the brakes look good and the powermaster pump runs. He suggested I just put a normal vacuum brake booster on it but for originality I'll let you decide how to fix it. The air conditioning hasn't worked since 2003, I take the roof off and problem solved. If you are looking for a good driver that you can buy reasonable and are willing to invest some love this is your car. If you are expecting a 100 point show winner this isn't there yet. My kids are older now and would much rather go wakeboarding than sit at a car show so I'm selling this champion to the highest bidder. I have a truck so I can help with delivery within a few hundred miles of zip 14804 for the cost of fuel and expenses. The car is located in western NY state but has never seen salt. I strongly encourage all bidders to personally inspect the vehicle before bidding or send your people over to inspect it, my mechanic can put it on a lift for you to check it over carefully. Someone will have to come by and put cash in my hand before the car leaves here or send a certified check and wait for it to clear before sending a shipping company to pick it up.

Note that I had some negative feedback when I was selling used motorcycle parts overseas last year, I finally gave up selling outside the US because customs would charge the buyers a tax and they would blame me. Most people find me pleasant to deal with. This car has a title issued by the state of Connecticut, valid in all 50 states. If you live outside the US then do your own research please.

Buick Avenir concept struts into Motown

Mon, Jan 12 2015

We love auto show surprises, and Buick has already gifted us a sparkly package on the eve of the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Dubbed Avenir, this four-door concept is said to signal the future of the Trishield brand by previewing a possible flagship sedan. Incorporating time-honored Buick design hallmarks like the sweep-spear profile, Ventiports, and even a subtle boattail rear-end, the four-place sedan is powered by a surprisingly real-world powertrain – namely a next-generation V6 with cylinder deactivation and stop/start, with the most interesting part of the driveline arguably being a "twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system" and a nine-speed automatic gearbox with paddle shifters. Make no mistake, this is a big car. At 204.5 inches long, it's longer than a standard-wheelbase Cadillac Escalade – a span that's emphasized by the car's long hood and waterfall grille – though it's not quite as wide. While clearly a showcar, the beautifully crafted interior looks largely produceable, including attributes like a next-generation 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system and 4G LTE wifi, but we suspect a production car would pick up a third rear seatbelt and give away some of its flowing contours that are said to have been "inspired by nature and sea waves receding on a beach." No word yet on whether there's actually a showroom future for a car like this – it could simply be an exercise designed to test the waters for a next-generation LaCrosse. After all, sedans aren't exactly popular concept fodder these days, especially as crossovers continue to eat into traditional sedan sales in many of the world's markets. However, China still loves the coddling rear seats of a proper four-door sedan (which in this case include silk and bamboo elements), and with a majority of Buick sales happening in the People's Republic, the Asian nation controls the destiny of this General Motors brand. Said another way? Anything is possible, especially with General Motors known to be working on a large flagship sedan for Cadillac already – the Avenir is reportedly based on the same Omega architecture that will underpin the forthcoming CT6. What do you think? Is this a promising direction for the resurgent Buick? Scroll through our gallery, check out the video, and then have your say in Comments.

GM trademarks 'Sport Touring' for Buick Regal, LaCrosse

Thu, May 7 2015

Discovering trademarking or patents from automakers always fascinates us since the filings hint at the possible future of motoring. Based on two recent applications, Buick has something possibly brewing for two of its sedans, because the company now has the trademark for Sport Touring on the Regal (pictured above in GS trim) and LaCrosse. According to GM Inside News, both trademarks are dated April 27 and are simply described to the US Patent and Trademark Office as being for "motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles." That doesn't narrow things down at all. However, since the moniker is specifically for both sedans, Sport Touring might be a new trim or special edition for them. Buick had no comment when reached by Autoblog. Of course, there are a whole host of automotive trademarks that are claimed that end up with no actual vehicle in showrooms. Unfortunately, we just have to wait to find out if this is another case like the Buick Enclave Tuscan where the filing offers a preview of the future or a situation like the still long-awaited return of the Supra.

KBB 2013 Brand Image Awards has some obvious and oddball winners

Sat, 30 Mar 2013

The sixth edition of the Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards have crowned a wide range of winners - in a couple of cases the recipient of the laurels might say more about KBB users than they do about the actual winner. Compiled from the responses of more than 12,000 shoppers on KBB.com over the past year, there are 13 categories broken into non-luxury, luxury and truck segments "representing the combined wisdom of the American car-buying public."
The award categories have been revamped this year, with some dropping off, some new ones appearing and at least one other given a new term. What isn't surprising is that Honda won Most Trusted Brand for the second year running, Best Value Brand for the third year in a row and took Best Overall Brand, which wasn't on last year's list of awards.
On our own shores, in the non-luxury categories Chrysler got Most Refined Brand and Buick took Best Value Luxury Brand. Neither one of those marques won anything in last year's Brand Image Awards, while Cadillac, which won Best Interior Design Brand and Best Comfort Brand last year - those awards disappeared this year - went home without a single accolade.
