Selling my 1969 GS400 in Fireglow.

One of the rarest paint colors for 1969 Buicks, fireglow was offered only during the second half of the model run.  Only 126 GS400s were painted this color.

Body has been repainted sometime in the past in the original color.  Some light rust bubbling can be seen on the edge of the decklid and at one spot on the hood. Other areas showing corrosion are the rear wheelwells and lower passenger fender.  Both lower quarters have areas of body filler evident.  Trunk floor and floorpans are very solid for a car of this vintage.  Only a couple small areas in the trunk showing rust.  Rear bumper is straight but will need rechroming.  Grille is cracked but could be easily repaired.  Replacements are available aftermarket.  The remainder of the body is solid to the best of my knowledge.  The body work was done before I purchased the car and much of it would have to be gone through again to bring the car to show quality.

Drivetrain consists of a 1973 Buick 455, original numbers matching TH400 transmission, and open 2.56 rear end.  The car starts and runs well with no leaks anywhere.  I have been through most of the mechanicals and have installed many new parts including hoses, belts, alternator, battery, regulator, filters, fluids, all external transmission seals, U-joints, rear shocks/springs, and nearly all brake components.  I also rebuilt the wiring harness for the engine.

Car is sitting on new tires mounted on 15" Buick rally wheels.

I have all sheet metal necessary to repair the areas listed above.  Rust-free deck lid, passenger fender, and both quarter panel skins included at no cost if "buy it now" option is selected.  These parts available at extra cost to high bidder if "buy it now" is not chosen.  Free shipping available up to 500 miles from Brandenburg if "buy it now" is selected.

GM will recall more than 3.3 million vehicles in China for suspension defect

Sat, Sep 29 2018

BEIJING (Reuters) - General Motors' joint venture in China, Shanghai GM, will recall more than 3.3 million Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac vehicles stating Oct. 20 because of a defect with the suspension system, China's market regulator said on Saturday. GM Shanghai said in a text message to Reuters that the suspension arm may be deformed under extreme operating conditions, but there are no known casualties related to the issue. The recall includes cars produced between 2013 and 2018, the State Administration for Market Regulation said in a statement. GM will contact those affected and repair the vehicles free of charge, it said. Leno recalls '90s showdown with Tim Allen and his mullet

Wed, Oct 7 2015

Not many of us have buddies with garages full of classic cars, but that isn't the case for Jay Leno and Tim Allen. Of course, one of the advantages for two guys with such vast collections is occasionally getting to pit their cars against each other. The two comedians did just that in the mid-'90s with a burnout battle on The Tonight Show between Allen in a race-prepped Mustang and Leno in a drag racer. After some time away from regular television, Leno is returning to the airwaves with a Jay Leno's Garage series premiering on Oct. 7 (tonight) at 10:00 p.m. ET on CNBC. Let this clip serve as another taste of what to expect for the new TV show's mix of comedy and cars. After reminiscing about the old days in a gorgeous garage, the comedians get into two modern machines to reprise the classic challenge – after a little trash talk anyway. Don't worry because the YouTube series isn't going anywhere, though.

As GM readies Alexa convenience for vehicles, we ponder its dark side

Thu, Dec 19 2019

SEATTLE — On the 30th floor of AmazonÂ’s glass tower, in a room with a breathtaking view of downtown Seattle, thereÂ’s a beautiful bed that nobody sleeps in. ItÂ’s near a kitchen nobody cooks in, a living room couch that no one crashes on, a kitchen table that doesnÂ’t host any family meetings. ItÂ’s AmazonÂ’s Smart Home Lab, a place where every Alexa-enabled gizmo the company or its partners can produce is crammed into the same space, ostensibly for Amazon to test. The company invited us there to show us the companyÂ’s vision for consumer products to leverage AlexaÂ’s voice interaction software before taking us down to a demo of its latest implementation in a Buick Encore GX. In this eerie simulacrum of a fantastic luxury apartment, however, nothing went right the first time. ItÂ’s a challenging environment for Alexa to work correctly, our hosts noted, pointing to the fact that there were six wifi networks available for the devices to connect to. In a normal home, one wifi network controls all the devices, who can theoretically sort out for themselves which one youÂ’re actually trying to activate. In the Smart Home Lab, any unmuted Alexa device thinks itÂ’s in charge. Even so, the connected toaster wouldnÂ’t connect. The Fire TV Cube wouldnÂ’t play a song. Our handlers futzed with everything, muting and unmuting devices, repeating commands, making us feel better about our own struggles with similar technologies. If it doesnÂ’t work right at Amazon HQ, maybe itÂ’s not just us! ItÂ’s telling that down on the faux lawn, in between the gleaming Amazon spheres that host a billionaireÂ’s tropical garden and the Day 1 building that the Smart Home Lab resides in, the BuickÂ’s Alexa implementation doesnÂ’t use a “wake-word” at all. The familiar Push to Talk button on the steering wheel, which normally activates General MotorÂ’s own proprietary voice command system, can be set to default to Alexa when that rolls out to GM vehicles in the first half of 2020 via an over-the-air (OTA) update. Given the reluctance of Alexa to respond to its wake-word in the comfort of AmazonÂ’s own lab, we hoped that this was by design. Drivers are already familiar with Push to Talk, and a physical button is more reliable than the vagaries of contemporary voice recognition – not to mention the privacy and accuracy issues involved with always-on mics. Our experience with the not-ready-for-primetime Mercedes-Benz MBUX system is illustrative.
