1972 Buick Skylark Custom convertible.  Winning bidder will receive car as shown with 455 engine, also the original 350 4-bbl engine, original steel wheels and hubcaps.

Enjoy a GM A-Body CONVERTIBLE with big block engine at a fraction of the cost of a Chevelle, SS 454, SS 396, GTO, GS, or 442.

I purchased this car from the original owner 3 years ago.  I drove the car in its original condition for about a month and then sourced and built a Buick 455 engine.  I had a Maaco paint job done and then installed the 455.  It's been my daily driver ever since.  In that time I have done some performance enhancements including installing a posi, shift kit, shift point kit, Edelbrock AVS 800 carb, wheels/tires, Pertronix electronic ignition, etc.  I also replaced the convertible top last summer.  This car has power windows, tilt wheel, working A/C, power top (works perfectly, no leaks), power steering, power front-disk brakes, map light, auto-trans, posi rear end, working windshield washers, 2 1/2" dual exhaust.  I've replaced the brake booster, front brakes, radiator, voltage regulator (external).

This is a nice driving car.  Very smooth, very powerful, and really enjoyable with the top down.  I've owned a 396 Chevelle before but I'd take this Buick in a second.  Not only does it have more power than the Chevelle did but it's just more enjoyable due to the features.  Steering wheel turns with one finger, very good brakes, huge low-end torque, working A/C, power windows.  It's really the best of both worlds of having a classic car but with modern conveniences.  The wheels are really nice looking "American Racing" wheels with Radial T/A tires in good shape.  I also have a tach and some gauges installed.  It has an electric choke and Pertronix electronic ignition.

The engine is from a 73 Buick Electra.  I had the machine shop bore it .030, and it has a multi-angle valve job with Comp Cams springs.  Engine includes Sealed Power hypereutectic 9.5 pistons, Comp Cams 268 cam (I have the spec sheet), Edelbrock Performer intake, Edelbrock AVS 800 carb with electic choke, high flow mechanical fuel pump.  I have pictures documenting the entire build.

This car is not perfect by any means so let me lay out the problems.  The car frame is perfect (fully boxed due to convertible) and the body is decent.  However, there is some rust in the usual locations for this type car.  I've done my best to show them in my pictures.  I just didn't have the money to afford a really good paint job at the time and the job Maaco did was pretty typical.  Not awful but not perfect.  The upolstery is in need of replacement or re-covering.  The vinyl material is getting more stiff/brittle and cracks are in the driver seat and some of the rear seat.  And yes, that's a child car seat in back.  Used to have two of them in fact.  The trunk floor is solid but it had a "protective" mat for years and it trapped moisture enough to cause the surface rust you can see in the picture.  But it is solid.  Just surface rust.  These are the major things wrong with the car but if you have questions let me know.  Mileage show on odometer and ad is not accurate.  True mileage of car unknown.  Engine has about 15K to 20K miles on it since it was built.

The winning bidder will receive the car as shown and also the ORIGINAL 350 4-bbl Buick engine, the original steel wheels and perfect hubcaps.  The 350 is a good running engine and, will fire up without issue if prepped with points, wires, etc.

I'm saddened to sell the car but I have other priorities I must place ahead of it.  For this reason, I'm listing this car with no reserve.  Car will sell to the winning bidder.  Very low starting bid to get the ball rolling.  NO RESERVE.

Please email me if you have questions or wish to receive additional pictures.

Buick Avista concept is 'buildable', but not a priority

Tue, Mar 22 2016

Buick could build the striking Avista concept that debuted at the Detroit Auto Show, though it's not a top priority, the brand's top executive said Tuesday in New York. "The reaction's been so great, we'll try to run the numbers and see if there's a business case," said Duncan Aldred, Buick vice president of sales, service, and marketing. Buick will show the Avista in red this week at the New York Auto Show as a followup to its Detroit debut. Buick actually built two prototypes, which are being used to promote the brand's performance potential at auto shows around the world this year. "It's very buildable," Aldred told reporters after the reveal of the reveal of the 2017 Encore small crossover before the New York Auto Show. "Ultimately, it comes down to priorities." He added, "We'd love to do it. We could do it, but [there's] lots of things we'd love to do... Nothing to confirm or deny." The Avista concept suggests a sports car with a twin-turbo V6 with 400 horsepower put to the rear wheels. The two-door followed another impressive Buick concept, the Avenir, which was four-door styling exercise from the 2015 Detroit show. Though the Avista remains on the minds of enthusiasts – helped in part by Buick – the priorities for the brand are crossovers. The Avista offers style, but the freshened Encore is the substance for Buick in New York, which along with the Envision, launches this year into the red-hot utility segment. The new Cascada convertible and redesigned LaCrosse also are joining Buick's lineup this year. While the Avista is doable, the brand clearly has other priorities ahead of it. Related Video:

Buick dusting off Grand National, GNX and T-Type nameplates

Mon, 26 Nov 2012

Inside Line reports Buick is planning to bring back some of the more storied names from the company's past, including the Grand National, GNX and the T-Type. Those cars rose to prominence in the 1970s and '80s to become performance legends of their day.
The new models will reportedly make use of the rear-wheel drive platform that currently underpins the Cadillac ATS and all would arrive as sedans - according to an unnamed source familiar with the initiative. Odds are the T-Type and the Grand National would share a driveline, with honest money being on a new twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 as the engine of choice. Word has it the mill will be good for anywhere from 350 to 400 horsepower.
That leaves only the GNX. Inside Line seems to think that machine could get down the road with some help from the all-new GM LT1 small-block V8. The engineers behind the ATS platform have already told us the engine bay is large enough for to accommodate the big eight pot, and since GM is most certainly working on an ATS-V, a slightly less powerful, less luxurious Buick iteration makes some kind of sense. We can't wait to see these things in the light of day.

This 1988 Buick LeSabre Estate Wagon looks like a boxy, wood-sided bargain

Fri, May 8 2020

The growing interest in 1980s cars has meant that General Motors' full-size B-body station wagons of the era are now attracting the interest of collectors as well as iconoclasts seeking an SUV alternative. This 1988 Buick LeSabre Estate Wagon for sale right now on eBay Motors, looks to be a tempting example of the genre. It has covered just 72,000 miles and is described as a "rust-free southern car." The A/C is said to be cold, and it's equipped with power windows, a split-bench front seat and a rear-facing third seat. Whereas the Electra was the wagon for the finest estates, the LeSabre presumably was for those that were one rung down, so it has a slightly more downmarket maroon cloth interior where the Electra would have velour. Yet this LeSabre Estate Wagon is still slathered in a full complement of woodgrain siding, and this car sports a factory set of wire wheel covers. We're told the 5.0-liter V8 sound great, while the paint is said to be "a little tired" and one headlight looks like it needs to be replaced. The "Buy It Now" price is $8,500, and the seller is also inviting offers. Plus, 1% of the sales price benefits St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, so there's a feel-good factor. For comparison, this wagon's Oldsmobile twin currently being auctioned on Bring a Trailer already has been bid past $8,900 for four days still to go in the auction. This '83 Custom Cruiser has 74,000 miles and looks maybe a little spiffier, but not a lot more so. The seller of this Oldsmobile includes a video in his listing, and in it he appears to be not wearing pants. Sometimes it's all about presentation. Related Video:
