1970 Buick Gs 455 Coupe Sloan Documentation Must See! on 2040-cars
Cleveland, Ohio, United States
1970 Buick GS 455 Offered for sale is the Buick seen below. We took this car in trade on a new Mustang. It is a real GS 455 car originally from Alabama. Car was originally built at the Kansas City plant. Optioned with seamist green exterior, green vinyl roof and black bucket seats. Sold new at Grady Buick in Mobile Alabama. The original owner was a Alabama state trooper. The original owner kept the car for 34 years then the second owner purchased and moved the car to Indianapolis. The gentleman in
Indianapolis originally bought the car because his son was interested in a car
to take to the strip. In 2004 it was taken to Indy Speed Custom and restoration
shop. There they spent over $8,000 going over the car and making necessary
repairs. You can see the bill below. It was then taken to the Tin Ranch where
it was repainted the original seamist green while retaining the original vinyl
roof. You can also see some photos of the car while being prepped below. In 2005 the GS 455
began its transformation to Stage 1 style specs. Over the next 3 years the engine
was pulled, rebuilt and upgraded. All of the work was completed at Mikar
Automotive Shop in Carmel Indiana. Not only was the engine upgraded with TA
performance roller rockers, TA040 forged pistons, TA red Buick Stage 1 valve
covers, Edelbrock performance Carb, Edelbrock performance manifold, there were
many other upgrades which included ceramic coated satin black Stage 2 headers,
Flowmaster Force II exhaust, Tie rods and center links and idler arms replaced,
new radiator, trans upgrades, fuel pump upgrades, new alternator, thermostats,
belts, engine mounts, fuel lines, tires, trans lines, wheel cylinders, upgraded
gauges, power brake booster and much more. Again you can see the bill and the
details below. These upgrades came to a total of over $26,000! It took from
September of 2004 to June of 2006. Shortly before the
car was traded to us the previous owner had noticed the car had developed a
noise in the motor. The oil pump had failed. The engine was removed, the came
shaft was sent and repaired, the main bearings where replaced, the oil pump was
rebuilt, the distributer gear was replaced and iginition wires were replaced at
a total cost of $4,000. This is a real
factory GS 455 that comes with Sloan documentation. Car runs very strong. It is
a pleasure to drive. I had the a/c gone through and it blows cold but the
drivers side vent does not work. It needs the vent tube replaced but we can’t
find one to put in it. The rest of the interior is very nice but it does have a
couple of minor splits in the rear seat at the seems you can see pictured
below. The factory radio is in the car but it does not work. The exterior is very
nice but under close inspection you can see some of its age. The body is very
straight and solid. There is some shrinkage in the paint on both quarters I
tried to show in the pics below. The vinyl top is original and shows some signs
of age but is presentable. There is one small spot on lower right front fender
that is starting to break out also which is pictured below. The bumpers are the same they look but under
close inspection they show their age. Overall this is a
very nice presentable car that has had a lot of money spent to get to this
point. A solid number 2 much better then just a driver but not a perfect show
car. If you can make arrangements to pick up I do have some of the original parts including valve covers, exhaust manifold, intake, carb and cam shaft. New GM subcompact SUV spied, could be a Chevy or GMC
Mon, Aug 13 2018GM's pair of subcompact crossovers have been trundling along for a while now. The Buick Encore was the first for Americans in the 2013 model year, and the Chevy Trax that was based on the Encore (an encore of the Encore, if you will) arrived for the 2015 model year. Each has undergone a mild update, but these spy photos could indicate their replacements are in the works. Or not. For starters, we can't be sure which GM brand this new SUV is destined for. Though the timing and its flowing lines could indicate Buick, the thick horizontal bars visible in the grille would indicate otherwise. The next Encore being at least related to this is at least a possibility. Making the case for GMC are those thick grille bars, the fact that it extends far below the lights, and may even rise above them, similar to the Acadia. And that rising beltline isn't that different from that of the Acadia. Arguing against the GMC idea is the Encore, which is almost always sold in GMC-Buick combo dealers. Much as the Acadia was made smaller to eliminate confusion and in-house competition with the Enclave, it's hard to see GM opting to resurrect such an issue at the bottom end of the SUV market. That means we're leaning toward this little SUV wearing a Chevy bowtie. The split grille with a large lower section and small upper section is the brand's current design language, as seen on the new Malibus and Cruzes. The shape is vaguely Equinox-like. And like Buick, Chevy also has a subcompact crossover ready for replacement: the Trax. Now, our photographer reports he's seen another subcompact testing that has Blazer design cues, but in this crossover-hungry market, we wouldn't be surprised if two similarly sized but differently styled Chevy crossovers make the grade. It's a strategy that's working pretty well for Jeep. We'll no doubt be seeing more of these disguised test vehicles milling about the country in the coming months, so perhaps we'll eventually get a better idea of what this is before more official information starts trickling out within one or two years. Looking back at how and why GM saved Buick
Mon, Dec 19 2016Still uncomfortably fresh in our collective minds is 2008, the year when the US economy tanked, auto sales collapsed, and both General Motors and Chrysler endured federally managed bankruptcies. Then 2009, when, among other draconian measures, the government task forces dictating what they were compelled to do to earn taxpayer financial support ordered thousands of dealers cut and GM to discontinue four of its eight US brands. Three of those chosen for GM's axe were fairly obvious: off-road icon Hummer had become politically incorrect, Swedish-born Saab was a perennial money loser, and product-starved Saturn had sadly sagged after its strong early start. On the other hand, high-volume value brand Chevrolet, luxury Cadillac, and high-profit GMC seemed clear keepers. That left Pontiac and Buick, both boasting strong brand heritage and histories but both languishing at the time with lackluster image and sales. Most believed that "old man's car" Buick would be killed and once-youthful Pontiac and its performance image would be revived. So few understood why when exactly the opposite happened: Buick lived, Pontiac died. One key factor was Buick's long, distinguished history in China. In the early 20th century, many of that country's most influential citizens owned, drove, or were driven in Buicks. By 1930, one out of every six cars on the roads in Shanghai was a Buick. So when GM launched vehicle production at a Shanghai joint-venture plant in 1999, the chosen brand was Buick. Today it remains GM's best-selling brand in that fast-growing market. Another was an appealing new design direction that began with a shapely 2006 three-row crossover concept called Enclave. Inspired by the Buick Velite concept convertible of 2004, its curvaceous "form vocabulary," GM Design vice president Ed Welburn said at the time, previewed coming Buick production car and CUV design. "The body shape flows, like there's wind blowing over it," he enthused, adding that the Enclave concept's richly trimmed cabin foretold "a renaissance in interior design for GM." And when the production Enclave arrived for 2008, followed by platform siblings from Saturn and GMC (and later Chevrolet), it indeed caught the public's eye and started selling well. And once past GM's painful and embarrassing bankruptcy, Buick has been on a major roll. Continuing to sell strongly in China while growing substantially in the US, it has enjoyed four straight years of global sales records.
Best and Worst GM Cars
Thu, Apr 7 2022Oh yes, because we just love receiving angry letters from devoted Pontiac Grand Am enthusiasts, we have decided to go there. Based on a heated group Slack conversation, the topic came up about the best and worst GM cars. First of all time, and then those currently on sale, and then just mostly a rambling discussion of Oldsmobiles our parents and grandparents owned (or engineered). Eventually, three of us made the video above. Like it? Maybe we can make more. Many awesome GM cars are definitely going unmentioned here, so please let us know your bests and worsts in the comments below. Mostly, it's important to note that this post largely exists as a vehicle for delivering the above video that dives far deeper into GM's greatest hits and biggest flops, specifically those from the 1980s and 1990s. What you'll find below is a collection of our editors identifying a best current and best-of-all-time choice, plus a worst current and worst-of-all-time choice. Comprehensive it is not, but again, comments. -Senior Editor James Riswick Best Current GM Vehicle Chevrolet Corvette We were flying by the seats of our pants a bit in this first outing and my notes were similarly extemporaneous. When it came time to tie it all together on camera, I failed spectacularly. Thank the maker for text, because this gives me the opportunity to perhaps slightly better explain my convoluted reasoning. I chose the C8 Corvette because it's simply overwhelmingly good, and it's merely the baseline from which this generation of Corvette will be expanded. While the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing (more on that in a minute) is an amazing snapshot of GM's current performance standing and its little sibling so enraptured me that I went out and bought one, their existence is fleeting. Corvette will live on; forced-induction Cadillac sport sedans, not so much. So while all three are amazing machines when viewed in a vacuum, the Corvette stands above them as both a reflection of GM's current performance credentials and a signpost of what is to come. So, given the choice between the C8 and the 5V-Blackwing right now, I'd choose the C8. In 10 years, when the Blackwing is no longer in production and Corvette is in its 9th generation? Well, that might be a different story. Now, just pretend I said something even remotely that coherent when we get to the part of the video where I try to make an argument for the 5-V Blackwing as best GM car I've ever driven. Or just laugh at me while I ramble incoherently.
