1964 Buick Skylark ( Sport ) Wagon W/ Olds Vista Cruiser Style Skylights on 2040-cars
Sherman Oaks, California, United States
For sale is a 1964 Buick Skylark 4 door station wagon--9 passenger, 3 seats!....this was the very first year of production of the Buick and Oldsmobile A-body models that featured skylights in the roof...the emblems on the 64 read "Skylark"...the name was changed to "Sport Wagon" beginning with the 65 Model year and continuing for many years to follow.
This car has been in California it's entire life....still has it's original black and gold plates....and has been driven only 87,000 miles since brand new!...that's less than 2,000 miles per year...kept inside so that even the outside rubber around the vent windows in the front doors is in very good condition The body is very straight....the floors, bottoms of front fenders, bottoms of doors, bottom of quarters, bottom of tail gate and drip rails on roof are all solid...frame is very clean..there is a whole through the door skin at the lower bottom corner of each of the doors about the size of a large green pea...have shown the areas in the pictures...extremely easy fix....this body and all it's stainless and aluminum trim is in very nice condition....even very few tiny dings in the belt line stainless trim where car doors would normally damage it....as pictured, there are 2 very small dents, 1 on the side of each of the tail lights...about the size of a tangarine....and a tiny crease in the lower rear most quarter panels, probably from rubbing against something while backing out the garage...all in all a very nice body with no evidence of bondo.....there were a very few pin holes in the front floors...we laid cloth and resin to seal them There has been considerable restoration labor and new part installation to this point: beginning at the front....brand new ($450) A/C capacity radiator...the motor has been cleaned and has a new water pump, fuel pump, distributor, plugs, wires, alternator rebuilt....the power steering box was just rebuilt....the master cylinder, brake shoes, hardware kits and wheel cylinders have all been replaced as needed The entire front suspension has been replaced with new ball joints, upper and lower control arm bushings, inner and outer tie rods, center link, front shocks and new alignment-this car is so sweet to drive....smooth, quiet, steer with 1 finger, has power when needed....idles like a fine watch New GoodYear thin radial whitewall tires were installed, along with a new windshield, new ignition switch, new aftermarket dash gauges The original tri-tone deluxe interior can be easily restored....the padded dash has no cracks, all door panels and arm rests are excellent.....the rear 2 seats show very little wear..the front seat has seams that have split but the seat could definitely be stitched after new padding was installed and look very presentable if you are trying to keep the maximum originality...originally an A/C car, but it appears it was never installed...the dash end vents are present, but the vent above the radio was never installed....we were going to install an aftermarket underdash unit-they work so much better.....the original radio is there and should just need servicing to perform well again All glass is good, electric rear tailgate window works great...will include the correct Buick emblem tissue dispenser and, if full asking price is met...I will include a nearly NOS set of front and rear floor mats, correct for this particular interior that say "Skylark" and have the 3 shields embossed Easiest running restoration project you can find....go back to original white paint or choose a color that blends beautifully with the deluxe brown tone interior...there is a small leak from the transmission rear seal...likely from sitting in storage....condition may improve with more usage but want to disclose everything you would want to know...the new water temperature gauge on the dash leaks a little for some reason-I purchased the same gauge with an electric sending unit for the new buyer to install the car is currently registered in Calif until new Spring, clear title in my name Proceeds from this sale will be used to purchase items of warmth and comfort for those who are served by the homeless ministry at my church Thanks for reading-this is a rare model that should prove to be an excellent investment-so much time, work and money already spent to this point |

GM recalls 64k 2011-2013 Volts over carbon monoxide fears, stop sale on Trax and Encore
Thu, Mar 12 2015General Motors is recalling 50,249 Chevrolet Volts from the 2011-2013 model years in the US and an additional 13,937 exported examples because of fears over carbon monoxide buildup. According to a statement, if a Volt is accidentally left on while running on electric power, its internal combustion engine would eventually kick on to charge on the battery. If this happens in an enclosed space, then carbon monoxide can fill the area, leading to a potential exposure to the dangerous gas. According to GM, there have been two injuries reported due to this issue. To fix the problem, there's a software update to limit the time the vehicle can idle. According to Automotive News, GM is also issuing a stop sale on about 2,300 examples of the 2015 Chevrolet Trax and Buick Encore. In these compact crossovers, it's possible that the steering column assembly could touch the power steering circuit board and cause damage over time. This could potentially cause the system to stop working. Automotive News indicates that the automaker is still working with the supplier to get the necessary parts to repair this problem. General Motors is recalling 50,249 Chevrolet Volts in the U.S. from the 2011-2013 model years to implement a software update that will limit the amount of time a vehicle can be left idling in the "on" or "run" position. If a driver exits the vehicle and inadvertently leaves the vehicle "on" by failing to react to cues and warning chimes emitted by the vehicle, the vehicle's high-voltage battery will drain after a period of time and the gasoline engine will begin to run. If the gas engine runs for a long period of time within an enclosed space, such as a garage, carbon monoxide could build up. GM is aware of two injuries, both related to carbon monoxide build up. The total recall population including Canada and exports is 64,186. Related Video:
2018 Buick Enclave launches luxury Avenir trim
Wed, Apr 12 2017Remember the shapely Buick Avenir Concept from the 2015 Detroit Auto Show? Well, this isn't that, even if they both share the same name. Meet the Buick Enclave Avenir, a new trim built atop Buick's redesigned 2018 Enclave seven-passenger crossover. Think of it as Buick's version of GMC's Denali trim and you'll be on the right track. As the brand's new top trim level, everything that's normally optional in the Enclave comes standard in the Avenir, along with a bunch of exclusive content. And this is just the first application of the Avenir package for Buick – expect the rest of the TriShield brand's products to get a similar makeover in due time. All Avenir models from Buick will get what the brand is calling a three-dimensional mesh grille with a new set of chrome wings. From there, the Enclave edition bundles unique pearl nickel 20-inch wheels, a Rear Camera Mirror like the one seen from Cadillac, and a new kind of LED headlamps that use something called Evonik Acrylite lighting technology. An in-car air ionizer promises to keep the cabin smelling fresh. The rest of the Enclave package sounds pretty good, too. It's got a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine with 302 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, and all-wheel drive is optional. A tow rating of 5,000 pounds is standard fare for this class, as are seven seats inside. A frameless eight-inch LCD screen and integrated 4G wireless connectivity are other family-friendly highlights. We expect more Avenir-branded models to make their appearance in the Buick showroom soon. In the meantime, check out the Enclave Avenir in the image gallery above, and stay tuned for more from New York. Related Video:
GM won't really kill off the Chevy Volt and Cadillac CT6, will it?
Fri, Jul 21 2017General Motors is apparently considering killing off six slow-selling models by 2020, according to Reuters. But is that really likely? The news is mentioned in a story where UAW president Dennis Williams notes that slumping US car sales could threaten jobs at low-volume factories. Still, we're skeptical that GM is really serious about killing those cars. Reuters specifically calls out the Buick LaCrosse, Cadillac CT6, Cadillac XTS, Chevrolet Impala, Chevrolet Sonic, and the Chevrolet Volt. Most of these have been redesigned or refreshed within the past few model years. Four - the LaCrosse, Impala, CT6, and Volt - are built in the Hamtramck factory in Detroit. That plant has made only 35,000 cars this year - down 32 percent from 2016. A typical GM plant builds 200,000-300,000 vehicles a year. Of all the cars Williams listed, killing the XTS, Impala, and Sonic make the most sense. They're older and don't sell particularly well. On the other hand, axing the other three seems like an odd move. It would leave Buick and Cadillac without flagship sedans, at least until the rumored Cadillac CT8 arrives. The CT6 was a big investment for GM and backing out after just a few years would be a huge loss. It also uses GM's latest and best materials and technology, making us even more skeptical. The Volt is a hugely important car for Chevrolet, and supplementing it with a crossover makes more sense than replacing it with one. Offering one model with a range of powertrain variants like the Hyundai Ioniq and Toyota Prius might be another route GM could take. All six of these vehicles are sedans, Yes, crossover sales are booming, but there's still a huge market for cars. Backing away from these would be essentially giving up sales to competitors from around the globe. The UAW might simply be publicly pushing GM to move crossover production to Hamtramck to avoid closing the plant and laying off workers. Sales of passenger cars are down across both GM and the industry. Consolidating production in other plants and closing Hamtramck rather than having a single facility focus on sedans might make more sense from a business perspective. GM is also trying to reduce its unsold inventory, meaning current production may be slowed or halted while current cars move into customer hands. There's a lot of politics that goes into building a car. GM wants to do what makes the most sense from a business perspective, while the UAW doesn't workers to lose their jobs when a factory closes.
