The 1963 Buick Riviera is the first year production of the much sought after '63, '64, '65 first series. The 1963 Rivieras came equipped with the Buick 401 cubic inch engine and was the last year with the Dynaflow Transmission with the dual range. It's all stock and all original. Enclosed pictures shows the VIN and matching engine number proof.
The Riviera was purchased in San Francisco on February 24, 1976, and still sports the vintage black California license plates. At 50 years old, the car presently has just over 107,000 miles...that's about 2000 miles per year. The Riviera was repainted in the original tan color upon purchase and is still in very nice condition. Everything is original. The interior is original with very good leather (not vinyl) seats, carpet, headliner and door panels. Even the walnut wood paneling on the door and quarter panels is perfect, perfect original. The trunk matting and cardboard is original. And the headlamps are the vintage GM Guide T3's. The chrome and stainless exterior trim and all glass are in perfect condition, as well. The Riviera was never used for commuting, but for ROA activities and car shows in the Bay Area and always garaged. No dents, dings, scrapes, and certainly zero rust. There are a couple of small blemishes in the 40 year old Du Pont lacquer paint. The Riviera is equipped with many highly desirable options. Warning to other traffic is provided with the Four Note Horn option, consisting of the existing two horns behind the grill plus two more trumpet horns mounted on the inner side of the hood. For tunes the Riviera has the working AM BUICK Transistor Radio option with the Electric Radio Antenna option. For safety, the Riviera is equipped with not one, but two Remote Control Side Mirrors option. The right side remote mirror is very rare. The Riviera has the deluxe interior, which includes upgraded leather power seats, full length door and quarter wood inserts, and door full length armrest with door openers for front and rear seat passengers. Optional Power Windows are included, as well. A rare Cruise Control option works perfectly. And a Vacuum Trunk Opener option is included, as well. The Riviera is equipped with the standard Factory Power Brakes, Factory Power Steering, Factory 12" Drum Brakes with aluminum front drums that are par to disc brakes, Factory Air Conditioning blows hot air on the floor when set to heat, and ice cold air from the dash vents when set to cold. The engine starts right up, has lots of power, runs fantastic, the transmission operates smoothly and the drum brakes provide quick, sure stops. All original, unmolested stock 50 year old cars don't come up too often. The 1963 Buick Riviera with the sand exterior and tan leather interior equipped with bucket seats and console floor shift in the distinctive Riviera design is a fine example of desirable car built when the the Riviera was king of the road, providing great power, handling, and prestige in the personal luxury car field. The Riviera is located in the San Francisco Bay Area, has current registration, and a clear title in my name. A $500 non-refundable down payment is due within 48 hours of auction close. Balance is due within seven days of auction close. The Riviera is 50 years old and is sold "as is." There is no warranty. Delivery, shipping, and transportation cost are the responsibility of the buyer. Junkyard Gem: 1962 Buick LeSabre 2-Door Sport Coupe
Sat, Jan 29 2022American car shoppers looking for a full-sized hardtop coupe in 1962 couldn't go wrong with the offerings from The General. Chevrolet would sell you a snazzy new Bel Air sport coupe for just $2,561 (about $23,800 today), but those Joneses next door wouldn't have felt properly shamed if you put a new proletariat-grade Chevy in your driveway. No, to really stand tall during the era of Alfred Sloan's Ladder of Success, you had to go higher up on the GM food chain. For the B-platform full-sized cars of 1962, that meant the Pontiac Catalina/Bonneville beat the Chevy, the Oldsmobile 88 was the next step up the ladder, and at the very top was the Buick: the hot-rod Invicta and its swanky LeSabre sibling. To go beyond that, you had to move up to a C-platform Buick Electra or Cadillac. Today's Junkyard Gem is a once-luxurious '62 LeSabre, now much-faded in a northeastern Colorado boneyard. The reason GM shoppers got so bent out of shape about the "Chevymobile" episodes of the late 1970s, in which some GM cars received engines made by "lesser" GM divisions, was that each division had its own family of V8 engines during the 1950s and 1960s and they weren't supposed to be mingled. The '62 LeSabre got a 401-cubic-inch (6.5-liter) Nailhead engine (so called because the valves were unusually small), rated at 265, 280, or 325 (depending on what kind of compression ratio and carburetion you wanted). That's not crazy horses for a big-displacement, two-ton luxury coupe of its era, but the small valves allowed for combustion chambers optimized for one thing: low-rpm torque. This 401 has the two-barrel carburetor, so it made either 412 or 425 pound-feet of torque. That's just a bit less than the mighty Cadillac's engine that year, and definitely sufficient to get this car moving very quickly. You had to pay a fat premium on the Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Oldsmobile B-bodies to get an automatic transmission (a three-speed column-shift manual was base equipment in those cars), but a Turbine-Drive (formerly known as the Dyna-Flow) automatic was standard issue on the 1962 LeSabre. This was an interesting transmission design that traced its origins back to the 1942 M18 Hellcat Tank Destroyer and used torque-converter multiplication to provide a CVT-like experience with no perceptible shifts (the driver could select a separate low gearset manually, so the shifter looks just like the one on the true two-speed Powerglide transmission).
Trademarks indicate Buick Regal wagon could be on the way
Wed, Dec 23 2015American wagon fans have been waiting for General Motors to import a Buick-badged version of the Opel Insignia Sports Tourer since the current Insignia-based Regal hit dealers. If a new patent filing is any indication, that day could be coming soon. Then again, it might not mean anything. AutoGuide reports that Buick has filed two trademarks with the US Patent and Trademark Office for "Motor land vehicles, namely automobiles." You can see the trademarks for "Tourx" and "Regal Tourx" here and here. "Tour" smacks of wagon models, while the "x" – for all-wheel drive – makes us wonder if maybe we'll be seeing a rebadged version of the high-riding Opel Insignia Country Tourer (shown above). This isn't the first time Buick has stoked the hopes of US wagon fans, though. Earlier this year, trademarks were filed for the "Regal Sport Touring," a name that's very close to the Euro-market wagon's title. In fact, that trademark had the same description as the Tourx/Regal Tourx filings. As we've established before, automakers file trademarks all the time. It's far from a guarantee that anything will come of such trademarked names. Still, two wagon-ish filings with the USPTO from Buick in under a year makes it seem like there's at least someone at the Trishield brand that's campaigning for a long-roof Regal. Fight the good fight, friend. Related Video:
First 2013 Buick Encore TV ad features... dinosaurs
Thu, 14 Mar 2013The whole "SUVs as dinosaurs" trope has become something of a threadbare cliché among auto writers, but that doesn't mean the wider world of consumers has caught on to the Jurassic nature of our line of thinking. That's what General Motors appears to be betting on, at least. Just check out Buick's first television spot for its 2013 Encore, the tiny crossover that is pushing the Tri-Shield into territories unknown while looking to outrun the brand's reputation as a refuge for elderly clientele.
Set to air this weekend on ESPN during the NCAA college basketball tournament, the ad plays up the Encore's maneuverability and surprising interior space by setting the baby Buick amongst a herd of lumbering CG dinosaurs created by Tippett Studio, the folks behind Hollywood blockbusters like Jurassic Park, Ted, and the Twilight series of films.
We can't help but snigger a little - while the Encore is indeed surprisingly roomy, nimble, and composed, our first drive found it to be glacially slow, too... not unlike a certain prehistoric race of animals. Check out the commercial below and judge for yourself.
