I'm the third owner of this well taken care of original Riv.  I inherited the vehicle in 2012 and contemplated building a pro touring car.  However, that has never materialized and the wife wants her garage spot.  This Buick is in good mechanical condition, runs well and does get a lot of compliments when I take her out.  I have heard several stories of one's parents owning one and them remembering how much fun it was to drive around.  It's becoming a rarity to see these, I believe a significant number of them have been used for demo derby's or met their fate at the wrecking yard for scrap money.  This would make an excellent base for building a cool and unique custom or could easily be driven as is for a daily if one were to prefer.

The Good:  Runs and drives well, the seats are really comfortable to sit in, interior is in really nice condition, maintenance as far as belts, hoses, spark plugs, tires, brakes, fuel lines have all been kept up with.  All original, unmolested 1975 with low mileage that would be outstanding with a new paint job. Pretty much loaded with all available features.

The Bad:  To me personally the paint is old and faded in areas, minor dings, surface oxidation and areas that need touched up.  Rear bumper fillers were falling apart and removed (brackets & nuts retained).  Trim for Landau top around the side windows doesn't look that great (retained and in the trunk). Vacuum controlled diaphragm that controls heat temperature not fully actuating (On cold setting it is still warm).  8 Track player only plays through one speaker.

The Details:  Original Car Invoice, Warranty, Owner manual and consumer information Included along with the GM Factory production order - chassis - paint.  Purchased new on 6/22/1976, model "4Z87T" with the following options: AM-FM Stereo Radio-Tape, Pwr Antenna, Whitewall tires, Positive Traction Differential, A/C, Cornering lights, Speed Alert Trip odometer, Pulsating wipers, tinted glass, Electric rear window defogger, Four note horn, rear bumper guards, door guards, sport mirrors remote control R & L, Carpet Mavers? & Handy Mats, Pwr Seat 6 way, Door courtesy & Warning lamps, Lamp monitors front & rear, cruise master, electric trunk release, electric door & seat locks, lighted mirror, chrome wheels, protective moldings body side, accent stripes, trunk trim carpet, sun roof - electric, Special GM Paint, Landau Top, Custom Leather Trim.  Color - Canary Yellow w/Black Vinyl Top.  Trim - 968 (From my research the black leather was not an available option).

Production Order is from the factory and includes detailed information regarding the production line number, body serial #, Model info, sheet metal, wheel, Fan, options, exh, tires, axle, engine, speedo, trans, springs, shocks, frame, pulleys, belts, wiring harness, paint and the internal vehicle identification.

As is this is a fun car to cruise around in, it has an expansive interior and with the sunroof open and the windows down it is just a fun vehicle to drive.  I wish I had a pole barn to store this in to get it out of the garage but I don't so I hope it can go to a good new home.  Let me know if you have any questions I may not have answered.  Thanks for the interest.

2014 Buick LaCrosse to sticker at $34,060*

Tue, 18 Jun 2013

Buick first showed the facelifted 2014 LaCrosse at this year's New York Auto Show, and General Motors' luxury-ish arm has now confirmed that pricing for the updated sedan will start at $34,060 (*including $925 for destination), a increase of $1,505 over the 2013 model.
Buyers will be treated to an updated appearance, both inside and out. On the outside, tweaks were made to the LaCrosse's front and rear fascias, and new wheels are on offer (though the ones seen on the car pictured above seem to have been simply pulled from the 2011 Regal Turbo). Inside, there's a much cleaner center stack layout, complete with a standard eight-inch reconfigurable touchscreen IntelliLink interface. Buick is also offering a new Ultra Luxury interior package ($2,495), featuring Tamo Ash wood throughout the cabin, black synthetic suede on the headliner and leather seats in a new sangria color. Standalone options include different wheels, Bose audio, rear seat entertainment, navigation and a sunroof.
The 2014 LaCrosse's base powertrain is the trusty 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with eAssist, which is capable of achieving up to 36 miles per gallon on the highway. But for folks wanting more power, a 304-horsepower, 3.6-liter V6 is available as a no-cost option, available with either front- or all-wheel drive.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
