1973 Buick Riviera on 2040-cars
Pompano Beach, Florida, United States
An absolutely gorgeous last year boat tail Riv that accelerates, handles and idles as great as it looks. I've spent more money and time on this beauty than I may get back but it's been a labor of love. The new paint and vynl top and interior were done to match the original. The troublesome QuadraJet carb was replaced with an 800 cfm Edlebrock 4brl. New front and rear suspenseion. New brakes and tires. New steering components. All fluids flushed. New filters everywhere. New AC. All power options (windows, door locks, cruise, driver's seat, remote trunk release, wipers, windshield washer, heat) function. I installed new, modern heat and sound insulation under carpets, behind door panels and in trunk. The car has been well detailed in the engine bay, trunk, interior, body and undercarriage. This is not a show car but could be with more effort. The original color combination of midnight blue metallic and white vynl top is the most beautiful in my opinion. You just don't see these cars around - and certainly not many in this condition. The ignition system is a modern HEI Coil In Cap with MSD computer module. She fires right up after setting the choke and idles very smoothly after kickdown. I installed a RetroSound audio system that has am, fm and USB connection. All four speakers were replaced with upgrades. Great for listening to my Oldies on a flash drive! New front windshield with built in antennae. The new AC is fantastic and more of a necessity in South Florida than a luxury. I have picked the kids up from school 40 miles each way several times since I finished this car and I've never had a problem. I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a long trip. On the highway I've had her past 80 and she begs for more! But this is one classy, sport ride and this Riviera is pampered. Always garaged. Driven only by myself and no accidents since my ownership. Flaws: Three very small paint touchup areas on the C pillars. Pin hole and dime size rust areas on driver's and left rear passenger floorboards sanded, converted, filled and painted. Three rust areas behind wheel wells were cut out, replaced with metal, filled and painted as part of the paint and bodywork phase. Original front bumper fillers for this year were not available. I used those for '74 and there are two gaps in the front as they are not as long as those of the '73 Riv. Some minor chrome flake off from the steel ralleye wheels. Two cracks on driver's arm rest. I removed the shoulder belts that hung from the roof as they tended to fall. I pinned the driver's side sunshade in an "up" position as it tended to fall while driving. The driver's window works well but needs adjustment as it often pushes up against the left rear quarter window weatherstrip. These are fairly minor things that were either already taken care of or will be if I my reserve price is not met. |

Buick Envision cabin detailed ahead of reveal later this month
Sun, 17 Aug 2014Buick teased the arrival of the China-market Envision last month and gave us a few specs, now it's teasing the midsize crossover's interior and features. Having said it will "set a new benchmark in terms of space, safety, performance and specifications," we're told that equipment like the heated leather steering wheel and Bose-sourced active noise cancellation are market firsts in the segment.
Elsewhere, light will shine on occupants through the panoramic roof during the day and via ice blue ambient lighting at night, and seating surfaces are being shown off with dual-stitched leather. Lane departure warning and parking assist help keep the bodywork in order, stop/start ignition fitted to the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with 256 horsepower and 260 pound-feet will help keep fuel economy up. One more convenience for the model's core buyers: a tailgate that can be partially opened.
The Normal, Tour, Sport and Off-Road driving modes come courtesy of FlexRide, that last one - meant for extra-light-duty dirt work, naturally - appearing on a Buick for the first time.
Buick and Bar Refaeli teach in-car yoga
Mon, Jul 27 2015We're not sure which make or model you'd most readily associate with yoga. You'd probably see a fair few Mercedes convertibles, VW Beetles, and assorted minivans and crossovers outside your typical American yoga studio. But not to be left out of the contorting action, Buick is out to link itself to the age-old practice with these latest videos. They feature, as you can see, the ever lithe and supple Bar Rafaeli, clad in spandex, stretching and contorting herself inside and out of a Buick Verano. Which is really all you should need to know, but there's a little more to the clip above (and the behind-the-scenes video below) than eye candy. Choreographed by yoga guru Chad Dennis, the idea behind the video – cleverly entitled The Body Shop – is to show drivers, in as artful and visually pleasing a way as possible, how to limber up their body, mind, and soul in preparation for (or recovery from) a long drive. It also serves to promote the brand's new 24 Hours of Happiness test drive program that lets prospective buyers take a Buick home and try it out for a day before buying. And if nothing else, it aptly demonstrates that Buick has excellent taste – or at least as good as Sports Illustrated that gave the Israeli model her first big break, Leonardo DiCaprio whom she dates for several years, and the dozens of fashion labels, jewelry brands, and magazines for which she's posed in recent years.
Third 1987 Buick Regal GNX will be auctioned in January
Mon, Nov 13 2017A member of the 1987 Buick press fleet is hitting the auction block next year and it's a rarified gem: a low-mileage Regal Grand National GNX, serial No. 003 and one of just 547 models built for that year, and the last of the traditional body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive Grand Nationals. It'll be auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction in January. The GNX No. 003 was loaned out to publications including Autoweek, Motor Trend and Road & Track, where it racked up around 8,200 miles. "Through it all, a constant sad undertone was the understanding that 1987 was to be the final appearance of the traditional body-on-frame, rear-wheel-drive G-body (which also underpinned the best-selling Chevy Monte Carlo, Pontiac Grand Prix and Olds Cutlass)," reads a the description published on Barrett-Jackson's website. "A totally redesigned W-body Somerset Regal, with front-wheel drive and unitized body construction, was slated to replace the popular midsize Buick in 1988." So Buick opted to make "a Grand National to end all Grand Nationals" with the '87 GNX, partnering with ASC/McLaren to equip them with wheel lip flares, fender vents, 16-by-8-inch BBS rims and more aggressive tires. It left untouched the Grand National's standard Sequential Electronic Fuel Injection 3.8-liter V6 but added a larger Garrett T-3 turbocharger with a ceramic impeller, a larger intercooler, more aggressive fuel, spark and waste gate tables, and a dual exhaust system that boosted output from 235 horsepower and 330 foot-pounds of torque to 276 hp and 360 lb-ft. That was enough, Barrett-Jackson reports, to make the performance coupe quicker and faster in quarter-mile tests than the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 930 Turbo. After making the test-drive rounds in the automotive media, the car sold in 1988 as a brass hat/company official car to Fischer Buick in Troy, Mich. with approximately 8,200 miles on it. From there, it quickly sold to a local resident who drove it very little, and sold it in the spring of 1989. Since 1992, it has reportedly been kept in climate-controlled storage, totally original, unmodified and undamaged, with just 10,790 miles on the odometer today. It recently underwent a complete mechanical service and cosmetic reconditioning. You can check out the listing on Barrett-Jackson here. The first '87 GNX ever produced resides in the General Motors Heritage Collection and No. 002 is at the Sloan Museum in Flint, Mich. Interestingly, another '87 GNX, No.
