1965 Buick Riviera Gran Sport 7.0l on 2040-cars
San Pedro, California, United States
THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO QWN A TRUE AMERICAN CLASSIC THAT IS RAPIDLY GROWING IN POPULARITY AND VALUE. IT'S A REAL GRAN SPORT WITH FACTORY DUEL QUADS.THE 65 IS FAR AND AWAY THE MOST VALUED OF BUICKS AND THERE WERE ONLY ABOUT 3000 MADE.HAGERTY CLASSIC CAR VALUES HAS SEEN A RAPID INCREASE IN VALUE OF THIS MODEL AND CURRENTLY VALUES A #1 CONDITION IN THE HIGH $70,000S AND A #2 IN THE HIGH $40KS.THIS CAR CAN EASILY BE A #2 AND WITH SOME TLC COULD BE A #1. WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR I WAS TOLD A RESTORATION AND REPAINT WAS STARTED ON THE CAR IN 1984. FOR SOME REASON IT WAS NEVER COMPLETED AND SET FOR MANY YEARS UNTIL IT WAS SOLD AT AN ESTATE SALE JUST PRIOR TO MY PURCHASING THE CAR A LITTLE OVER 2 YEARS AGO. WHEN I RECEIVED THE CAR I DISCOVERED IT HAD AN EXTERIOR CRACK IN THE BLOCK. OUTSIDE OF THE MECHANICAL ISSUES AND SOME MISSING PARTS, THE CAR IS AMAZINGLY STRAIGHT SO I ELECTED TO DO AN OPEN CHECK BOOK RESTORATION ON THE CAR WITH THE INTENT OF KEEPING IT LONG TERM. I DON'T HAVE ENOUGHT SPACE TO LIST EVERYTHING THATS BEEN DONE TO THE CAR AT THIS POINT SO I'M GOING TO COVER MOST OF THE THINGS THAT WOULD BE IMPORTANT TO ME IF I WERE BUYING THE CAR. THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WERE DISASSEMBLED AND TOTALLY REBUILT. A NEW BLOCK WAS TOTALLY BLUEPRINTED AND ALL NEW INTERNALS INSTALLED. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE BLOCK, CRANK, AND RODS, EVERY OTHER COMPONENT IS NEW AND BLUE PRINTED AND BALANCED.THE HEADS WERE COMPLETELY REBUILT WITH NEW PARTS ALSO. EVEN THOUGH ALL OF THE EXTERIOR PARTS APPEARED TO BE IN GOOD SHAPE I TOSSED EVERYTHING AND REPLACED WITH NEW. NEW CHROME ALTERNATOR, FUEL PUMP, WATER PUMP(POLISHED) FAN, BELTS, BATTERY,CABLES,PLUG WIRES, ETC.THE ROCKER COVERS WERE POLISHED AND THEN CHROMED AS WERE ALL OF THE OTHER ENGINE BRACKETS. EVERYTHING WAS REASSEMBLED WITH STAINLESS BOLTS. THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND CARBS WERE SHIPPED TO A EXPERT SPECIALEST FOR A COMPLETE REBUILD THE TRANSMISSION WAS ALSO SENT OUT AND COMPLETELY REBUILT WITH H.P. PARTS. ALL NEW BUSHINGS WERE REPLACED IN THE SHIFTER ASSEMBLEY. THE RADIATOR WAS ALSO COMPLETELY REBUILT. THE TOTAL EXHAUST SYSTEM IS NEW. NEW SHOCKS WERE INSTALLED ON ALL 4 CORNERS. THE SUSPENSION AND STEERING WAS ALL CHECKED OUT AND IS IN GOOD SHAPE. ALL COMPONENTS IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS EITHER REBUILT OR REPLACED. NEW MASTER CYLINDER, BRAKE CYLINDERS,SHOES, AND BRAKELINES. ALSO THE MASTER CYLINDER WAS REBUILT.AFTER ALL WAS REASSEMBLED, A NEW SET OF TIRES WERE INSTALLED. BOTTOM LINE, I THINK MECHANICALY, THIS CAR IS AS NEAR NEW AS POSSIBLE. THE INTERIOR IS THE DELUXE OPTION AND IN GOOD SHAPE CONSIDERING IT'S ALMOST 50 YEARS OLD. NO RIPS OR TEARS ETC. CARPET IS FAIR. HOWEVER, MY INTENTIONS WERE TO REPLACE IT ALL. A COMPLETE KIT TO DO THIS IS AVAILABLE AT OPG FOR A REASONABLE PRICE. EXTERIOR WISE, ALL OF THE TRIM HAS BEEN REMOVED AND THE PAINT STRIPPED TO BARE METAL IN PREPARATION FOR PAINT. THERE ARE NO INDICATIONS OF PRIOR BODY DAMAGE IS MINOR RUST REPAIR REQUIRED. ALL OF THE TRIM HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY POLISHED AND LOOKS NEW. ALL THE CHROME, EXCEPT THE REAR BUMPER, WAS REDONE AT A COST OVER $2000. THE CAR IS READY TO GO TO THE PAINTER. THIS WAS MY NEXT PLANNED STEP. AFTER 2 YEARS OF WORKING ON THIS RESTORATION AND AN INVESTMENT OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS, I HAVE ACCEPTED A BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY ON ANOTHER CONTINENT AND CAN'T TAKE THE CAR WITH ME. SO REGRETFULLY, I'M FORCED TO SELL IT. AT FIRST, MY INTENTIONS WERE TO PAINT THE CAR AND THEN OFFER IT FOR SALE. WHILE DISCUSSING COLOR OPTIONS WITH MY PAINTER, HE MADE A COMMENT, THAT NO MATTER WHICH COLOR WE PICKED, MORE THAN LIKELY THE NEW BUYER WOULD WISH IT WAS ANOTHER COLOR. WITH THAT THOUGHT IN MIND, I DECIDED TO OFFER IT FOR SALE AS IS AND HOPE SOMEONE RECOGNIZES THE VALUE AND LIKES THE FACT THEY CAN FINISH THE CAR TO THEIR TASTE. IF NOT, I'LL COMPLETE IT AND PRICE IT ACCORDINGLY. FINISHED, I THINK THIS CAR WILL BE ONE OF THE NICEST SPECIMENS IN EXISTENCE AND DEFINATELY A GOOD INVESTMENT AND A GREAT DRIVER. IF ANYWAY POSSIBLE, INTERESTED BUYERS SHOULD INSPECT THIS CAR IN PERSON. IT'S ONLY 15 MINUTES FROM LAX. ANY QUESTIONS CALL JIM @ 310 308-7779 |

Buick Regal, Hyundai Sonata
Mon, Apr 17 2017Toyota is ramping up production of an all-new 2018 Camry and spending over $1 billion – with a "b" – at its Georgetown, Ky., plant. That investment speaks to the popularity of midsize sedans, despite sales inroads made by crossovers. While Accord and Camry are givens in the segment, less attention is paid to Buick's Regal and Hyundai's Sonata. And if shopping for a midsize sedan with a $30,000 budget, you should pay attention. Both offer a compelling combination of attributes and can be well equipped for that price point. Finally, both are due for either a major redesign (Regal) or aggressive freshening (Sonata) in the 2018 model year. Both Buick and Hyundai will be offering incentives 2017s, but Hyundai's program is more aggressive, with up to $6,000 in savings (as this is written). BUICK REGAL: For those seeking exclusivity at well below an "exclusive" price, there is the Regal. Designed by GM's Opel as the Insignia, the version sold stateside keeps most of its Eurocentric nature. It doesn't pretend to be an Audi or BMW, but it provides something more German than Volkswagen's Germany-by-way-of-Tennessee Passat. A Regal, in all-wheel-drive 'Regal' trim, supplies you with a turbocharged 2.0 liter and 6-speed automatic transmission. Its 259 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque propel the 3,600-pound Regal with authority and respectable efficiency. Despite its relatively low curb weight, the Regal feels substantial, with a heavy feel behind the wheel and a quiet authority going down the road. Inside, you'll find an interesting mix of Old World and New Detroit, with informative gauges, a center stack that dominates the instrument panel, supportive buckets up front and a reasonably spacious rear seat. The Regal's interior volume is respectable (97 cubic feet inside, while the trunk has 14 cubic feet), but this remains a better environment for young families or empty nesters. Those with a lot of kids or stuff should shop Buick's about-to-be-redesigned Enclave or midsize Envision. For the 2017 model year, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto have been added. The Driver Confidence 1 package (optional) includes Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Following Distance Indicator and memory seats. Driver Confidence 2 has Collision Preparation with Collision Mitigation Braking and Full Speed Range Adaptive Cruise Control. It's all good stuff.
Buick Cascada dies the death everyone expected
Sun, Feb 17 2019Four months ago, the Grim Reaper came for the Opel Cascada. Groupe PSA, which bought Opel from General Motors in 2017, announced the two-door convertible would be phased out. On sale here since 2016 as the Buick Cascada, GM told us it had nothing to say about PSA's announcement. On Friday, the U.S. automaker spoke up, telling Automotive News the droptop "has reached the end of its originally-planned lifecycle and 2019 will be the last model year offered. Dealers have been notified and many will have stock through the rest of this year." Buick paid big money to advertise its first convertible since the 1991 Reatta. Buick threw money at Super Bowls ads and a gaggle of celebrities two years in a row. And when sales began in 2016, Buick enlisted The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star Ellie Kemper for a series of television and online spots. U.S. dealers have been instructed to file final orders this month, and production will continue at the factory in Poland until this summer. Yet the fact we're in February and dealers are predicted to have stock for the next ten months says everything necessary about the state of play. The brand sold roughly 17,000 units in three years, and both 2017 and 2018 saw sales declines of more than 25 percent. Buick didn't expect huge sales from the import, though, and the Cascada earned conquest buyers. A spokesman said, "The Cascada has played its role in the portfolio perfectly, outselling many other premium convertibles while bringing in [6 of every 10] buyers from outside GM." Last we heard, the LaCrosse ceases production next month. Unless the situation changes before the end of the year, Buick will have only the Regal on its passenger car books come 2020. GM will only have two convertibles in its portfolio worldwide, the Chevrolet Camaro and Corvette. Related Video:
2019 Toyota Avalon vs. full-size sedans: How they compare on paper
Mon, Apr 23 2018Full-size sedans aren't exactly in great demand at the moment, and at least one of the vehicles in this comparison has been rumored to be on the endangered species list. Yet, we've just had our first drive in the 2019 Toyota Avalon, and if anything has a chance of rejuvenating the segment a bit, it's an all-new version of what has long been the segment's benchmark. To see how the new Avalon compares, we've put together the below spreadsheet featuring the Avalon's primary apples-to-apples rivals, the Buick LaCrosse and Chevy Impala. We also included the Nissan Maxima, which is comparable in price, sales and non-luxury badge, and which offers the sort of increased driver engagement promised by the new Avalon XSE and Touring trim levels. We also included the outgoing Avalon for reference as well as that car's luxury cousin, the Lexus ES, which can definitely be cross-shopped with the luxuriously trimmed Avalon Limited. You can use our Compare Cars tool to create your own comparison, such as one featuring the rear-wheel-drive Chrysler 300, Dodge Charger or even Kia Stinger. Alright, enough chit chat. On to the spreadsheet. Performance and fuel economy The GM sedans may come standard with four cylinders, including a mild hybrid system in the LaCrosse, but puh-lease. The V6 is the name of the game in this segment, with outputs now surpassing the 300-horsepower mark. The LaCrosse is the horsepower and torque champ, though it also weighs a bit more than the new 2019 Avalon, so acceleration is likely to be comparable. The Impala weighs a lot more and has only a six-speed automatic, so despite having a wee bit more power, one should expect it to be pokier (not a good sign for a car rumored to be on the chopping block). One would expect the Maxima's 300 hp and lowest curb weight to result in the quickest acceleration, but then it's also strapped to a CVT, which despite being better than ever, is still a CVT. Things get worse for Chevy when you consider the Impala's base four-cylinder gets the same 25 mpg combined as the Avalon's V6 — once again a segment best. Now, should you really prioritize fuel economy, the 2019 Toyota Avalon Hybrid really stands out with a 43 mpg rating (or 44 with the base XLE trim) that bests the outgoing Avalon Hybrid. Honestly, after driving this new Hybrid, it actually seems like it would be the best bet for most buyers. There's sufficient power, and it only costs $1,000 more than the comparable V6 version.
