6-time National Award Winner - Trophy Magnet - Aaca & Bca on 2040-cars
Syracuse, New York, United States
|
This is an exceptional automobile, typically not found. It's original, with original miles, but new Goodyear tires and belts. Everything works, including the Air Conditioning. No rust, no dents, no scratches. It looks, runs and drives like a new car. The interior is more comfortable than a new car and it rides better.
It's won so many trophies that if I put them all in front of the car, you won't see the car. They won't fit in the car either. Well over a dozen recent trophies are missing from the above photo. They just won't fit without falling off the hood. It's never won less than 1st place in any competition, anywhere, even when judged in a class of national winners. The national awards that this car has won require 5 judges per car, per event! It's been stored in a climate controlled garage it's entire life. It's treated to non ethanol fuel every time it needs gas. There are no issues with the seals. There are NO leaks. Of course there is no rust, anywhere, even underneath. The 6 national awards are: Antique Automobile Club of America 1st Junior Antique Automobile Club of America Senior 2- Antique Automobile Club of America Preservation awards (most recently just 2 months ago). Buick Club of America Silver Buick Club of America Gold Senior These are all 400-point judged awards, where the car must be essentially perfect. This is not HPOF (Historic Preservation of Original Features), where the car only needs to be original, although this car is. This car has a Buick 350 V8 which comes with the original Packard Suppression wires, provided by GM with the Buick V8. These were factory installed and are labeled with the original date code, from 2nd Quarter, 1976. They work so well that there's no need to replace them, even though I wasted money on a new set of Delco wires before learning that the Packard wires were actually original. Obviously all of the dealer documentation is included, along with the window sticker, new car brochures, and many documents that are given only to the dealer, ie: color charts, new car order option check-off sheet, etc. The only reason I'm selling is to thin the herd of classic cars at home. I am not a dealer. This is an exceptional opportunity for the serious car collector. This car needs absolutely nothing. A 2-page article on this car appears in the December, 2012 issue of the magazine of the Buick Club of America. Automatic, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes. |

Malaise Era Junkyard Gem: 1979 Buick Electra Limited
Wed, Jun 22 2016In the fall of 1973, the Arab members of OPEC shut off the oil taps, and Detroit got busy making many of their full-sized land yachts a lot smaller. By model year 1977, the downsized fifth-generation Buick Electra was ready to go ... just in time for the 1979 Iranian Revolution to squeeze the supply of the black stuff even further. You won't see many of the 1977-85 Electras these days, but I spotted this faded but solid '79 Limited sedan in a Denver self-service yard last week. General Motors must have bought up the entire world's supply of blue velour around this time, because you'll see this stuff in just about every car they made for the following decade or so. By this time, GM was doing a lot of mixing-and-matching with engines from its various divisions, which meant you could buy an Oldsmobile 88 with a Chevrolet 350 V8 engine, a Chevrolet Monza with a Buick 231 V6 engine, or— as in this case— a Buick Electra with an Oldsmobile 350 V8 engine. Do you want to know how many horses this engine delivered to this 3,631-pound car? 155 horsepower out of 5.7 liters of engine displacement. Times were tough during the Malaise Era. Lutz dishes dirt on GM in latest Autoline Detroit
Mon, 20 Jun 2011Bob Lutz sits down for Autoline Detroit - Click above to watch video after the jump
Autoline Detroit recently played host to Bob Lutz, and, as is always the case, the former General Motors vice chairman dished out some great commentary. Lutz was promoting his new book Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business, and talk quickly turned to his role as it related to product development and high-level decision making at GM. While on the topic of brand management, Lutz revealed a few rather interesting tidbits about his former employer:
All Chevrolet vehicles were required to have five-spoke aluminum wheels and a chrome band up front, as part of the Bowtie brand's overall image.
Buick Velite is a not-so-Volt-like plug-in hybrid concept for China
Mon, Nov 7 2016Is the Buick Velite a Volt by any other name? That's a question worth asking after General Motors said that the Buick Velite concept vehicle will make its global debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show later this month. GM says the car "will provide a template for upcoming models being launched under the Buick Blue new energy vehicle strategy." Whether that means the Velite is a variant of the second-generation of the Chevrolet Volt extended-range plug-in is open to interpretation. Some automotive publications, including Autoweek, are saying that's the case, but GM China doesn't mention the Volt in its press release, only saying that the car is a "high-performance" plug-in hybrid vehicle. As we know, GM doesn't use the "PHEV" descriptor for the Volt, which makes us thing the Velite's powertrain is more like the Cadillac CT6 PHEV. Either way, the concept was developed by the Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC), which is a joint venture between GM and Shanghai-based SAIC. As far as the name, GM has been shopping the Velite moniker around for a while now. The automaker first used Buick Velite for the convertible concept vehicle it showed off at the 2004 New York Auto Show. More recently, GM in 2014 filed to use the name for the US variant of its Opel Cascada four-seat convertible model, which debuted in 2013. As for the second-generation version of the Volt, that model appears to be gaining favor in the US. Domestic sales of the Volt through October have surged 64 percent from a year earlier to more than 18,500 units. The new version boosted its all-electric range by 40 percent to 53 miles while increasing its power output by 20 percent.
