I have two 1997 Park Avenues that I want to sell as a package deal.

Car 1: Green. (VIN: 1G4CW52K3V4629657)  This car is my daily driver. Clear Title. 301,000 miles but runs good, shifts good, etc. Interior is good except place on back of driver's seat back which is worn through and seatbelt cover missing on back of passenger's seat. Power windows, door locks, seats all work great. 3.8 liter V-6 engine has small oil leak (don't need to add oil between changes) and small coolant leak (I top it off every couple weeks). Check engine light comes on sometimes registering an evaporative fuel recovery system error code. A/C compressor related parts were replaced summer of 2012. Very cold air. Brakes work fine but ABS light is on, so no ABS (assume sensor is bad). Aluminum wheels good, tires poor. Gas gauge is starting to fail intermittently, so I just fill up every 300 miles to make sure. Paint is bad on trunk and there is a rust spot on left rear quarter. The hood has a small dent and crease where I hit a deer. Also, the grill is cracked. This car has been in my family since 2002 with about 70k miles. Aftermarket Eclipse CD/MP3 disc player. Makes a good daily driver getting between 25 and 30 mpg highway.

Car 2: Maroon. (VIN: 1G4CW52KOV4647291)  This car has a bad engine (blown head gasket?) and has been parked for several years. Clear Title. Around 220,000 miles (no battery so don't know the exact number). Everything worked great except for the engine when it was parked. Interior is in better shape that the green car, but the paint is really bad and/or missing. Good for parts or repairing engine and slapping a paint job on it to make it a daily driver. One door panel is off but it is in the back seat. Chrome wheels clean up pretty nicely, tires poor. This car has been in my family since 2004 with 116K miles.

These cars are to be picked up in Franklin, KY.  The green car may be driven but the maroon car must be hauled.
I may be able to deliver these within a reasonable distance for the right price. Contact me for details.

Despite strong profits, GM still fighting flat market share

Fri, Jan 17 2014

Looking at the progress General Motors has made since it entered bankruptcy, it's easy to forget that the company still has a long way to go before it's the juggernaut it once was. A recent report from Reuters points out that, while GM is making money, it isn't making any gains in terms of US market share. Quite the opposite, really. Consider this factoid: In 1963, nearly half of the cars sold in the United States were from Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, GMC or Pontiac. Now, the company's US market share is stagnant at 17.9 percent. That same number is half of just Chevy's 1963 market share. This is all despite GM going on a binge replacing or updating its models. "Market share increases are not instantaneous," Mark Reuss told Reuters at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show. "We've got a lot of baggage. Don't underestimate what people though of us, or these brands, through these hardships and 30 years." The reasons for the stagnant market share are numerous. Reuters points out that retooling of factories and a focus on limiting incentives are both good things for profit, but not necessarily for market share. There's also the troubling turnover of the brand's marketing department. These issues don't change the fact that Chevrolet has lost 1.4 percent of its market share in two years, and that Cadillac - arguably GM's most improved brand overall - has lost 1.2 percent in the same period. Part of that can be blamed on GM's avoidance of fleet sales in favor of more profitable customer sales. "Our focus has really been on retail and that's where we've got the growth," said Alan Batey, GM's interim global marketing boss. "We want to grow GM and that means growing market share and profits, but it's not at all costs," Reuss said. 2013 Buick Encore

Wed, 14 Aug 2013

Ignored On Arrival, But Coming On Strong
An image exists out there that perfectly conveys the fate we thought would befall the Buick Encore after its world debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The shot shows the just-unveiled Encore on stage, basking in the glow of spotlights but surrounded by a large display area that's bereft of both cars and people. Two journalists are sitting on a couch over to the side, both facing the Encore but ignoring it as they inspect their swag, and a solitary custodial engineer pushes a vacuum back and forth across a sea of gray carpet.
Like a kid with his birthday cake at a party no one came to, this little crossover's debut was largely, almost cruelly, ignored. Who can blame us, though? Two shows ago, the Motor City's main stage welcomed the redesigned Aston Martin-esque Ford Fusion, the 3 Series-assassin ATS from Cadillac and the return of Dodge to the small car game with the Dart. A fourth model for the wayward Buick brand, especially one so arguably un-Buick in form and function, did not seem to deserve the attention paid to its peers that year.

GM recalls 51k Enclave, Traverse, Acadia crossovers over fuel gauge inaccuracy

Mon, 05 May 2014

With all eyes fixed on General Motors in the wake of the ignition recall debacle, the auto giant has been carefully calling in a wide array of vehicles to fix anything and everything that could prove problematic. Just the other day it issued two separate recalls - one concerning the Cadillac SRX and another its heavy-duty pickups - and now it is issuing another.
This time the vehicles in question are the Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse and GMC Acadia, three fullsize crossovers based on GM's Lambda platform. In an estimated 51,640 units manufactured between March 26 and August 15, 2013, the engine control module has been found to incorrectly display the level of fuel in the tank.
As a result, owners are being notified to bring their vehicles in to their local dealers to have the ECU reflashed to fix the problem. View the full details in the announcement below from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
