Bmw: 2002 Bmw Z8 Roadster on 2040-cars
Palo Alto, California, United States
If you're reading this ad, you know about the Z8. For those of you new to the car, here are a few quotes from when the car was introduced:
"You might start with beautiful, which is what everyone has been saying about this shape since BMW unveiled its Z07 concept car at the 1997 Tokyo Motor Show...Really, there's too much in this car to get your imagination around. At first, it seems too gorgeous, more like an art car than a proper BMW. On the boulevard, people turn and stare, kids fall off bicycles, and guys at valet parking get into fistfights in an effort to be the first to reach the driver's side door...The BMW Z8 just isn't like anything else. It's different - singular. This might not be exactly the word that Carl-Peter Forster is looking for, because it doesn't have the sound of big box office in it. But it is the kind of word that people who drive cars are always hoping for." Automobile Magazine "The BMW Z8 is about everything we love about cars. Faster and more nimble than all but a few sports cars made today, it looks as smooth and sensuous as the roadsters of the '60s." Autoweek "Every surface on the Z8 flows continuously without any sense of abruptness. Take the cut line for the door as an example. It starts at the bottom of the front wheel well, separates into two before sweeping upward, cresting over the car's shoulder, then tucking back into the cockpit. And if you continue to trace the broad downward-sloping rear fenders, you'll end up at an elegant narrow band of wrap-around taillights. At the rear, the rounded rectangular cutout for the license plate and the two polished-steel tailpipes melt into smooth surfaces, giving the Z8 a perfect blend of beauty and power...This BMW roadster has succeeded in reinforcing the passion and enthusiasm we have for fine automobiles." Road and Track There were a total of 5,703 cars produced world-wide. The US got 2,543. Of those 5,703 cars, only 138 had the Topaz/Crema color combo. To find this color combo with these low miles and in this condition is unprecedented. This has been my wife's car since Oct 2010. She's only put 300 miles on it during the time we've owned it. She needs a commute lane car, so we're swapping the Z8 for a new Tesla. Car has no issues at all. Comes with original phone, hardtop with stand and cover, new floor mats, cup holder, tool kit. Missing battery charger and seatback windbreaker. Does not have performance kit, but given low miles and treatment, no chassis flex at all. Car is located in SF Bay area. Shipping is responsibility of buyer. Deposit of $1,000 must be paid within 24 hours of winning bid. Contact me if you need more information or specific pictures. Reserve is set low for the value of this car. |

BMW announces M235i xDrive, 7 Series Exclusive among summer upgrades
Tue, 13 May 2014Like any automaker worth its lug-nuts, BMW is constantly striving to improve its products. And so it has announced a series of upgrades for the summer - none of them revolutionary, but a couple of them notable.
For one, the Bavarian automaker has announced that is is offering xDrive traction on the M235i coupe, a model that has been available until now only in rear-drive configuration. The all-wheel drive version comes with the same 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six with 326 horsepower (320 in the US market) and eight-speed automatic transmission as the rear-drive version, but now channels that power to all four wheels for a 0-62 time quoted at 4.6 seconds - two little ticks quicker than the existing version. It's the first time that all-wheel drive is being offered on the 2 Series, and will also be fitted on the convertible - at least, that is, in Europe. We're waiting on confirmation of North American availability.
Among the other announcements is a special edition of BMW's flagship luxury sedan. The 7 Series Exclusive Edition upgrades with metallic paint, 19-inch V-spoke alloys, Nappa leather upholstery and a leather-trimmed instrument panel. Buyers will also be able to opt for the Merino fine grain leather and Alcantara roof lining from the BMW Individual catalog, and choose between any available engine or either wheelbase lengths.
Car technology I'm thankful and unthankful for
Mon, Nov 27 2017The past few years have seen a surge of tech features in new vehicles — everything from cloud-based content to semi-autonomous driving. While some of it makes the driving experience better, not all tech is useful or well thought out. Automakers who are adept at drivetrains, ride quality and in-cabin comforts often fail at infotainment interfaces and connectivity. From testing dozens of vehicles each year and in the spirit of gratitude, here are three car tech features I'm thankful — and a trio I could live without. Thanks Connected search: This seems like a no-brainer since everyone already has it on their smartphones, but not all automakers include it in the dashboard and as part of their nav systems. The best ones, such as Toyota Entune, leverage a driver's connected device to search for a range of services and don't charge a subscription or require a separate data plan for the car. I also like how systems like Chrysler Uconnect use Yelp or other apps to find everything from coffee to gas stations and allow searching via voice recognition. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto: It took two of the largest tech companies to get in-dash infotainment right. While they have their disadvantages (you're forced to use Apple Maps with CarPlay, for example), the two smartphone-integration platforms make it easier and safer to use their respective native apps for phoning, messaging, music and more behind the wheel by transferring a familiar UI to the dashboard — with no subscription required. Heated seats and steering wheels: I really appreciate these simple but pleasant features come wintertime. It's easy to get spoiled by bun-warmers on frosty mornings and using a heated steering wheel to warm the cold hands. I recently tested a 2018 Mercedes-Benz E400 Coupe that also had heated armrest that added to a cozy luxury experience. Bonus points for brands like Buick that allow setting seat heaters to turn on when the engine is remotely started. No thanks Automaker infotainment systems: Automakers have probably poured millions into creating their own infotainment systems, with the result largely being frustration on the part of most car owners. And Apple CarPlay and Android Auto coming along to make them obsolete. While some automaker systems, such as Toyota Entune and FCA's Uconnect, are easy and intuitive to use, it seems that high-end systems (I'm looking at you BMW iDrive and Mercedes-Benz COMAND) are the most difficult.
2014 BMW X5 configurator goes live
Sun, 28 Jul 2013BMW won't begin selling the 2014 X5 for another few months, but the German manufacturer has brought the third-generation SAV's configurator online, allowing interested customers to poke around and look at the X5's optional goodies.
Like the 3 Series, the X5 is available in a number of lines that load up extras automatically. There's also a do-it-yourself truck that allows owners to pick and choose if they're not enamored with the styling or trim of one of the dedicated packages. As usual, the options list is quite vast, regardless of which line is chosen. We were able to easily take the new, rear-drive X5 sDrive35i, which started at $52,800, and bring the total price up past $80,000.
The new X5 carries over its 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V8 from the current model, as well as BMW's excellent 3.0-liter, turbocharged inline-six. The X5 xDrive35d, with the 3.0-liter turbodiesel will also be available on the third-generation SUV, but won't hit dealers until early 2014. BMW is stepping outside of the X5's usual bounds, offering a dedicated rear-drive model, available with all the same trimmings as the xDrive vehicles. Head over to BMW's US consumer page and have a go.
