This is a very rare 2006 BMW Z4 M Roadster with low miles. I am the original owner, and the car has been kept in an air conditioned garage. It has never been tracked or auto-crossed. I had planned on keeping the car for a long time so it was always very well cared for. Always serviced at a BMW dealership. I have most of the service records available for inspection. The belts were replaced within the last month, brake fluid, coolant and engine oil have all been changed in August 2014. The car is completely stock, with the exception of removing the very annoying CDV (Clutch-delay valve). The CDV is well known (and hated) among BMW M enthusiasts that have manual transmissions. It was an attempt to extend the life of the clutch, while destroying the feel of it. It made every shift clunky, no matter how smoothly you operated it. I have the original CDV and you could probably have it swapped back in if you wanted to torture yourself with it. With the CDV removed, it is a dream to shift!
Other additions: Because the stock cup holders are very poorly designed, I have added the Ultimate cup holders - which you can see in the photos on the floor to either side of the shift stick. They are very versatile and stable. I originally bought one, then added another because they're so useful. I also added leather padding to the door arm rest on both sides. The leather is from the same supplier that BMW uses and is very high quality. Lastly I added the center arm rest and console. This was another recent addition just last month. (as I said, I was planning on keeping this car - right up until I decided I ought to have a car with 4 seats to help my wife drive the kids around!) There is really very little storage space in a Z4 - so this arm rest was a very welcome addition. It gives you a place to put your phone and wallet without having to twist around to the rear storage compartment - which is quite awkward. The car has been exceptionally reliable. The only trouble I've ever had was with the batteries, due to not driving it frequently enough. The last time I replaced it, I made sure it was the best - a BMW AGM battery. I also have had it connected to a Battery Tender (not included) - which is a specially designed maintenance charger that has advanced circuitry to double the life of a battery. I haven't had any battery trouble after getting the Battery Tender. List of extras: - New BMW M Floormats (originally came with Z4 floormats) - BMW Sunshade for front window - 2 Ultimate Cupholders - 2 Door panel elbow cusions - Center armrest / storage compartment - BMW Sirius Satelite Radio - CDV removed - Tinted windows - Belts, Coolant, Brake Fluid, Engine Oil all changed last month |

BMW planning six-cylinder i9 hybrid to celebrate centenary?
Mon, 28 Jul 2014On the prospect of a new BMW M1 based on the company's new i8 hybrid, the jury has been in and out so much that we can't even tell which way it's likely to go. However, the latest reports coming in from Germany suggest that BMW may have something else up its sleeves. Rather than make a conventional gas-powered version of the i8, Germany's Auto Motor und Sport says BMW will make a more powerful one.
Tentatively dubbed i9, the hybrid sports car is rumored to pack a six-cylinder internal-combustion engine instead of the i8's turbo three. Coupled to more potent electric motors, it would figure to produce even more than the 357 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque already on tap in the i8, with further weight reductions to offset the bulkier engine.
Auto Motor und Sport says the mooted model will be produced to celebrate the Bavarian automaker's 100th anniversary and eclipse the i8's performance, with a projected 0-60 run in under four seconds en-route to taking the gloves off to crunch the Autobahn in electric bliss. The new i flagship would be another member of the company's growing electrified family, joining the existing i3 hatchback, upcoming i5 minivan and possible i8 Spyder down the line.
BMW X4 M probably not in the cards
Thu, 26 Sep 2013BMW is preparing to exploit its latest market niche - those that find themselves unable to choose between the 3 Series, 4 Series and X3 - with the X4. If you're looking for an M product, though, you'll remain limited to the 3 and 4 Series. BMW's Bernhard Ederer, at the Australian launch of the X5, told Car Advice he wouldn't "bet on it," when asked about a hotter X4.
Oddly, Ederer's reasoning, according to the Aussies, is out of concern for the X6 M, whose sales the X4 M would apparently cannibalize. That's like saying the M3 doesn't make sense because it will cannibalize M5 sales - the logic just doesn't really hold up. "The question is what customers are we talking to? And are we talking to someone that is willing and able to afford [an X6 M]?" Ederer told Car Advice.
Car Advice seems to feel the same way, claiming the X3-based X4 will share its powertrains with its donor platform, and will eventually spawn an M variant, albeit a few years down the line.
This Or That: 1980 Oldsmobile 442 vs. 1989 BMW 635CSi [w/poll]
Thu, 09 Oct 2014The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
