THIS IS A NO RESERVE LISTING.

This is my 1996 BMW Z3 roadster convertible.  This car has only 40,402 original miles and it looks, runs and drives like a new car.  If someone told you this car was a year old with maybe 5000 miles, you'd believe it.  I believe this is the nicest condition 1996 Z3 for sale in the country.  This is quite simply a gorgeous, clean, unmolested, beautiful car.

1996 was the first year for the Z3 roadster, and it was a huge success- in fact all of the 15,000 production run was sold out before the car even made it to dealer's showrooms- often at a premium ABOVE sticker price.  Consequently, these 1996 cars were often purchased by wealthy enthusiasts who took care of and cherished the cars.  This car is just such an example.

This car was owned by a retired couple who garaged the car from October to May each year.  This car has never been winter-driven and has never seen snow or salt since it was new.  It was a third car, for summer fun use only.

The only way to describe this car is "PRISTINE".  I am quite confident that there isn't a nicer condition 1996 Z3 for sale anywhere- it is just unbelievably clean and like a new car.

The paint is all original and it is in excellent condition.  The factory VIN stickers are present on every body panel.  This car has never been in any accidents, and has never had any paintwork or bodywork.  The car was always garaged, so the paint isn't oxidized, and the black trim and plastics are still just like new.

The alloy wheels are spotless and look gorgeous.  The tires are nearly new Yokohamas.

The undercarriage of the car is pristine and spotless.

The convertible top is original and in superb condition.  There isn't any appreciable wear on the convertible top, and the rear window is in excellent, clean and fully transparent condition.  The factory tonneau boot is included to protect the convertible top when it is retracted.

The interior of the car shows no wear.  The leather, plastics, upholstery and vinyl are all superb and just like the car was when it was new.  The car still smells like new inside, in fact.

This car runs and drives beautifully- just like it did when it was new in 1996.  The engine, transmission, clutch, brakes, steering, etc are all working superbly.  There are no warning lights illuminated and this car needs no known mechanical work.

It is impossible to overstate exactly how outstanding, clean and original this Z3 really is.  I feel like you could have taken one off the production line in 1996, put it away and it would look just like this car looks right now.

I have the books and manuals for the car as well as the original window sticker.  There are two sets of keys and remotes, and the car also comes with a quality padded and fitted car cover.

The equipment on the car is as follows:

  • 1.9L 4-cylinder engine
  • 5-speed manual transmission
  • A/C (blows cold)
  • leather power seats
  • ABS brakes
  • cruise control
  • power windows

If you have questions, please call Richard at 216 389 7100.

You can fly in to Cleveland (CLE) and drive this car home.  Alternatively, you can have the car shipped- for a quote please call Angles Moving Autos at 530 245 0481.

BMW patents strange three-cylinder pushrod engines, perhaps for cruiser motorcycle

Thu, Mar 12 2015

For decades BMW's motorcycles were easily identified by the two opposed cylinders sticking out of each side of the bike. While you can still find this layout on some of its products, these days the company also uses a variety of other layouts, depending on the model line. Based on European patents, there might even be a Bimmer in the ranks eventually with an absolutely bizarre-looking W3 configuration. BMW actually has two separate patents on these W3 designs, and both of them have the goal of cramming three cylinders into the space of a traditional V-twin. The first splays the cylinder out into a fan shape with pushrods operating the valves. The description submitted to the World Intellectual Property Organization describes the solution as, "The embodiment according to the invention represents an as of yet unknown type of W-3 reciprocating piston internal combustion engine having cylinder angles which can be largely freely sized." The other solution is more of a modification to the traditional V-twin. Two of the cylinders share a crankpin, but the third has its own and is positioned inside the angle of the V. It's a very odd-looking engine. With BMW's assertion that these designs are meant to fit in place of a traditional V-twin, Jalopnik speculates that they could be for a future cruiser from the company, and that would make sense. While brand offers a line of sport tourers with the K1600 line, it doesn't have something more classic to take on the likes of the Ducati Diavel. Creating such a weird engine would probably grab early interest from riders.

BMW Concept 90 Motorcycle debuts at Villa d'Este

Fri, 24 May 2013

The Concept 90 is one of two new vehicles BMW is showing off at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on the tony shores of Lake Como in Italy. This year is the 90th anniversary of BMW Motorrad and the 40th anniversary of the R 90 S (inset) - the first production motorcycle to come with a front fairing - and BMW has worked with custom bike builder Roland Sands Design to craft a homage to the Daytona Orange boxer from the Seventies.
While following the line of its forbearer, obviously the Concept 90 has been sexed and sleeked up. The bodywork is of hand-worked aluminum, the giant halogen lamp of the 1975 model (which is when Daytona Orange was introduced) has gone LED, and the front engine cover, valve covers, exhaust and wheels have been made with a contrast-cut milling process.
For a finer description of the Concept 90 check out the press release below, or skip the words and go straight to the high-res images above.

The 2016 Pebble Beach Concept Lawn was nuts as always

Mon, Aug 22 2016

The Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is like the smallest, most expensive car show you can imagine. A bunch of unobtanium concepts and almost-production models line an irregularly shaped putting green for people to stare at while on their way to see other, older insane cars. This year's crop was a particularly good one. We'll walk through the gallery above in order: That's a new Ford GT. Not quite a concept, but it's not in production yet, so we'll let it slide. Then there's the one-of-a-kind Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo that was recently bought by a Saudi Prince along with a matching Chiron. Next up is the Lamborghini Centenario Roadster, which was unveiled last week and is already sold out. This orange automobile is BMW's 2002 Hommage with its latest livery, a Jagermeister-themed affair called Turbomeister. This silver Infiniti, the Q80 Inspiration Concept, is an oldie but a goodie. It first appeared in Paris in 2014. The extremely long automobile after that is the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6, which was unveiled in Monterey this year. The 6 in the name is because it's 6 meters, or about 18 feet, long. Most of that's the hood. Next we have the one-of-99 Aston Martin Vanquish Zagato coupe, which continues to be beautiful. After that is a Fisker Karma with a V8, the VLF Destino. Thank you, Bob Lutz. The black sedan you see after that is the Cadillac Escala Concept, which also made its debut in Monterey this year. Then we have a Rolls-Royce Wraith Black Badge. Not a concept, but exclusive enough to join the others. Next is the McLaren 570GT customized by MSO that arrived for Pebble 2016. It has special design touches plus an electrochromic panel to replace the normal glass roof. The light blue car is the Genesis New York concept. The name didn't change even though it was in Monterey. Then we have the large and in charge Lincoln Navigator concept, taking up two regulation concept spots. The red car with suicide doors is Acura's Precision Concept, which we first saw at the Detroit show this year. Another non-concept, the Lexus LC 500h at least looks futuristic enough to be a show-specific car. And here's a 2017 Maserati Quattroporte, which is definitely not a concept. A Bentley Mulsanne EWB, because why not? It's not available in the US, so that almost qualifies for concept status. Then there's a reproduction Lister Knobbly, which we could stare at all day.
