Up for sale we have a "special" BMW that was customized for one our customers...The BMW was tinkered with to better cope with 120+ degree Arizona desert weather, it was made for an avid desert photographer/trekker.  An unfortunate accident is forcing the customer to sell the vehicle, so here it is. Extremely nice BMW X5 with the 4.4l engine with only 109K miles on it (Bullet Proof M62) and the AWD Option! This is by far the fastest, toughest urban SUV available. The X5 has the metallic Grey exterior paint on Black Napa leather interior. It has every option other than Navigation. It has the AWD (4x4) + Cold Weather Package, which includes heated seats and heated steering wheel.  Power seats, doors, windows, rear seats adjustment and sunroof/moonroof... This version also has the Xenon headlights. Interior is flawless for the year, no stains or rips in the leather. The carpet has no stains and it has never been smoked in. It comes with the heavy duty all weather OEM BMW rubber mats and rear compartment cover. All the electrical + electronics work. Engine starts at first key and has awesome power, transmission shifts smoothly through all gears.  The following items have been added/customized for this BMW:   AC has just been serviced and is ice cold, we have also replaced the Auxiliary BEHR (plastic) Fan with a custom high power unit.  The custom fan has a custom thermoswitch that will turn it on even after the vehicle is shut off.  The fan will come on and off to keep the engine compartment cool - even while the car is off.  It was requested by the customer for the many stop - and - go in the desert sun while taking nature photographs...It will make th AC extremely cold! Brand New Valve Cover (L & R) gasket set replacement, Brand New Tires with toe out offset, Brand new heavy duty Rotors and metallic brakes, Brand New COMPLETE HEAVY DUTY Rack and Pinion Unit, Brand new axles, Brand New Bushings and control/link arms, heavy duty water pump, always Mobil 1 Synthetic changes + Moly Molybdenum treatment, and the 2014 transmission software flash for more torque and pickup...This is not the best X5 available out there, but its a very nice SUV and very well taken care of!   The body is straight with no paint fading or dents/dings.  The front XENON headlights have the usual AZ sun fading on the plastic (on the inside of the lens only - the outside, has been buffed out). The BMW comes with all the original books and owner manuals and one key/FOB. It comes with a CLEAN and Clear AZ title, Emission Test valid for 1 year and registration, no liens and no surprises.  Due to the Custom Auxiliary fan, the SES light will come on every 15 key cycles.    The light is on due to the Auxiliary fan (original) not communicating with the ZKT module - basically the original fan is no longer there and is not plugged in.  The SES light does not affect drive-ability or performance in any way.  I will contact the owner to see if he still has the original fan...if he does it will be included with the sale.  Unlike other BMW's this one only has some bad pixels on the heating/cooling control unit, all other pixels are perfect  I just want to disclose it - so the buyer will know its there.  Again, if you expect a brand new, dealer level X5 - this may not be for you.  This is a used 2003 BMW X5 that is ready to go for another 100K miles!  Like any used vehicle - it is being sold as is and where is, with no written or implied warranty or guarantee.  I expect a non-refundable $300.00 PayPal deposit at the end of the auction.  The balance to be paid within 72hrs in the form of cash or cashier's check.  The buyer is responsible for vehicle transport or pickup.  You may also fly into Phoenix and pick up the vehicle - it has current registration and tags.  Miles will be slightly higher as I drive this daily...I like it!

BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe spotted wearing minimal camo, M Sport pack

Mon, 14 Oct 2013

The new BMW 4 Series is essentially the coupe version of the latest 3 Series. So it would stand to reason that the four-door version of the 4 Series, in turn, would be the 3 Series - right? Well, yes and no.
Just as BMW offers both a 5 Series sedan and a four-door version of the 6 Series called the Gran Coupe, so, too, will its 4-Series family expand. So following the release of the new 4 Series Convertible, here we have the latest batch of spy shots showing the upcoming 4 Series Gran Coupe - which in turn should not be confused with the hunchbacked 3 Series Gran Turismo, which is more of a sporty wagon than a four-door coupe.
The nearly ready test vehicle pictured here is wearing only minimal camouflage to hide some last few details, but also appears to be wearing the M Sport package that will bridge the gap (at least, visually speaking) between the base models and the M4 Gran Coupe that is all but certain to follow.

Next BMW X1 caught on flatbed

Tue, 17 Sep 2013

The X1 had been around for four years before it was added to BMW's US lineup, so it isn't all that surprising that a new version of the company's smallest Sport Activity Vehicle is already in the works. Captured in transit on the back of a flatbed truck, these spy shots give us our first look at the next-gen X1 - codenamed F48 - which is expected to debut around 2015.
While the camouflage does a good job of obscuring most of the styling elements, we definitely see evidence of the X1's new platform. Elements like the loss of the long nose and a noticeably shrunken dash-axle gap (just compare this spy shot picture to this one from our X1 review), are good indicators that the next X1 will move to the new front-wheel-drive platform BMW is using for the new Mini and 1 Series GT. Aside from this, the overall shape is very similar to the current design, but we're sure it will pull many cues from the updated range of BMW products.

2013 BMW M3 Coupe Lime Rock Park Edition

Sic Transit Gloria
I like difficult cars. I like turbo "moments," dramatic weight distribution, low-grip, peaky power delivery, and overly quick steering, along with ultra-short wheelbases and any number of other non-racecar-perfect dynamic foibles. I love the newest generation of BMW cars and engines - all turbo'd up with tons of torque and power everywhere in the rev range, too. But what I think the enthusiast community will miss when this 2013 M3 Coupe becomes the 2014 M4 Coupe - replacing its idiosyncratic, small-displacement, revvy V8 for something like a triple-turbo, directly injected, inline six-cylinder powerhouse in the process - is the work it takes to drive the car fast and perfectly. Sometimes small flaws just make things better; my mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun, and all that.
The idea of this E92 M3 going away then, magnified by the loss of the M3 badge for the coupe, is at best bittersweet for me. This generation of M car is already surpassed in terms of raw thrills by the better-than-ever Mercedes-Benz C63, a car that doesn't ask its driver to sacrifice low-end grunt or the very latest in amenities in return for stellar backroad performance. Yet any time I've been lucky enough to lap a track in the M3, it has quickly become clear that the Bimmer is the better on-edge tool. With the freedom to wring the neck of the 4.0-liter V8 and room to exercise the lovely balance of the car, the E92 is hard to match (even six years after its debut).
