Up for sale is a beautifully maintained 2000 BMW M5. I bought this car in 2010 with approximately 52,000 miles on the odometer and over the approximately four years I have owned it, I put roughly only 21,000 miles on it. I have had no mechanical issues with this car whatsoever. All oil changes have been performed on schedule, and the car was serviced at BMW of Myrtle Beach about one week ago. I have all maintenance records for the car, and most of the records that were given to me by the prior owner. The vehicle has never been in an accident and has a totally clean and certified carfax.

The prior owner took extremely good care of the car, and the car has been maintained at BMW dealers it’s entire life. The prior owner was a lead engineer for Roush racing, so the car was given to me in meticulous mechanical condition and I have done my best to keep it that way the entire time I have owned it. Just recently (within 3 or 4 months) I have had a brand new set of BF Goodrich KDW2’s installed on the car at the same time I had the rims completely re-finished. Unfortunately, I have been quite busy with work, and since this is not my daily driver I believe I have probably put less than 1,000 miles on the tires.

On the exterior, this car has almost perfect - an A or A+ for it’s age. The only imperfections I can find with the exterior are:

1.) One chip on the deck lid - I received the car this way. It has been touched up.
2.) A few slight imperfections on the hood from normal road wear. I tried to picture this, but it is so slight it barely even shows.
3.) The “shadow” (black) trim below the drivers side window has some minor paint issues. It is very slight in person, I tried to picture this as well. It would be a very simple re-paint. Locally I was quoted $75.

On the interior, other than normal light wear that you see in the pictures, there are no issues found. If you are as picky as I am, the “window lock” button is missing on the drivers side door. It could be replaced for only a few dollars, and if the buyer wants, I would be glad to have this done. The car has beautiful brushed aluminum trim with no imperfections.

Upgrades - performance wise, this car is nearly stock with the exception of a full Magnaflow exhaust system and a BMW ///M short shifter. The Magnaflow exhaust is clean and sounds great - I always get compliments on it and it sounds great around town with the windows down. The short shifter is genuine BMW ///M part professionally installed and makes the throw short and precise. In the interior, I have professionally replaced the original wood trim with a genuine BMW ///M brushed aluminum interior trim, I have added a custom BMW ///M stitched alcantara suede shift boot, a genuine chrome and illuminated BMW ///M shift knob, and the navigation screen has been upgraded to a 2003 model.

On the exterior, the car is stock - no add on body parts. You will notice the shadow trim, BMW shadow grill, the brake ducts option and that the headlights have been upgraded to the coveted OEM Hella Angel Eye xenon lights found on the 2003 Model. I have had the rims and brake calipers re-finished and re-painted. I have also replaced both xenon bulbs within the past year - you should be good for years to come.

Engine compartment is extremely clean with no oil leakage whatsoever - you could eat off the engine. Additionally, air filters and cabin air filter have both been replaced within the past few months and oil was changed recently as well. The battery was also replaced within the past 2 years, and I have kept a car on a battery tender religiously while it has sat in my garage - the car has always been garaged.

Mechanically, this car is extremely reliable - I have never had any issues. This is what the E39 M5 is known for. The car has very low mileage - there are many E39 M5’s on the market that are younger and have nearly twice the mileage.

I believe I covered everything - I have always loved this car growing up so when I got it I have taken care of it and I had the money to take care of it properly. Ideally, I hope that the next owner keeps it the same way - as this is a beautiful car that is still fast, exciting and gets attention everywhere. The pure E39 M5 - also known as “The Beast” among ///M enthusiasts, still widely considered the best M5 ever made. It will put a smile on your face every time - this car is an absolute rocket ship.

If you have any questions, or would like to see any further pictures please don’t hesitate to be in touch - I will try to take them for you. I have about 70 pictures of the car located here for download.

1972 BMW 1602e EV concept looks glorious

Wed, Mar 25 2015

Pretty sweet. That's a first impression of one cherry-looking experimental electric vehicle from BMW from way back in the day. Or at least from someone who for a time drove a '74 2002. A gas-powered one, that is. BMW built two experimental vehicles in 1972 based off of the old 1600 (which evolved into the 2002) model and even showed them off during the Munich Olympic Games of that year. BMW strung together a dozen typical car batteries and linked them to an electric motor made by Bosch. The result was a battery pack that weighed about 770 pounds (A quick modern-day comparison: a Nissan Leaf battery pack weighs about 480 pounds). Bimmer recently posted a two-and-a-half minute video about the project. The clip doesn't say how far those cars could go on a single charge, but did use to the vehicles to "escort" long-distance running competitions at the Munich Games, since there was no exhaust to choke those athletes out. The timing is fortuitous, of course, as the German automaker looks to continue to gain more goodwill from the green-car set through its new "i" sub-brand of plug-in vehicles, including the i3 electric vehicle and the i8 plug-in hybrid. Audi and Mercedes both outsell BMW in January

Tue, Feb 10 2015

There won't be any celebrations in Munich this month, as BMW was outsold by arch-nemeses Audi and Mercedes-Benz. The Bavarian company finished behind Audi in January, which took the top spot for the first time since June of last year, Bloomberg reports. Ingolstadt rode high on a 10-percent bump in sales, while Mercedes saw a larger 14 percent increase. BMW, meanwhile, only saw a modest 6.3-percent sales increase last month, thanks in large part to its struggles in China. The company's sales there increased at about half the rate of its chief competitors, with a 7.9-percent jump to Mercedes and Audi's roughly 15-percent increases. Perhaps more worrying for BMW, though, is that this could become something of a trend for the company. According to Bloomberg, issues with Chinese dealers who cancelled orders over sales targets and bonuses combined with what the publication calls aging models, could spell bad news for the German marque. "This looks like a pretty significant decline in growth compared to Mercedes and Audi," Bankhaus Metzler analyst Juergen Pieper told Bloomberg. "I think this will continue during the next few months." News Source: BloombergImage Credit: Matthias Schrader / AP Earnings/Financials Audi BMW Mercedes-Benz

2015 BMW 228i xDrive

Wed, Apr 22 2015

Has BMW lost its edge? The answer to that depends on what vehicle you're discussing. The company's products, while still quick and agile, are softer and more forgiving than they've ever been. And while this change may be worrying if we're talking about an M3 or an M5, is it necessarily a bad thing for more mainstream models? That's our question after a week behind the wheel of the BMW 228i xDrive, a vehicle that succeeds the beloved, driver-focused BMW 1 Series. In some ways this new car is a let-down, but in many other areas the new 2 Series is just plain better. The latter is particularly true if we're talking about the new sheet metal. While the 1 Series was a great source of compact, rear-drive entertainment, it wasn't a pretty car. The new 2 still isn't a stunner, but it benefits from BMW's latest design language. It looks wider and more muscular than the squat 1 Series, although certain elements, like the daylight opening and rear taillights, look like they were plucked right from the old car. Overall, BMW has crafted a more premium aesthetic for the exterior of its entry-level coupe. A weak spot for the 1er, the 2 Series cabin sports a similarly upscale redo. Like the last-gen car, the top of the dash is home to a master display for the iDrive system (a neutered, non-navigation version on our test car), while the lower half of the center stack is dedicated to analog controls for the HVAC and audio. The dash layout is similar to the 1 Series, but the execution feels more upscale. The trim around the radio and climate controls includes aluminum and gloss accents. The passenger side dash and center console ditch soft-touch plastic for authentic materials – our car uses real brushed aluminum, although piano black and wood are also available. As with all recent BMWs, the combination of the automatic gear lever, the knob and buttons of the iDrive system, and the toggle switch for the Driving Dynamics Control system mean there's a lot of clutter where the driver's right hand falls. What hasn't changed with the 2 Series is the excellent relationship between the driver and the primary controls. Our test car wears the Sport Line package, which does without BMW's obnoxious, too-large-diameter M Sport steering wheel. Instead, there's a thick-rimmed wheel with textured leather and red contrast stitching. It feels more natural than the oversized M wheel, while this car's large paddle shifters have a solid, well-damped action.
