For sale is my beloved 02 M3, I have a 6 month old and another one on the way. So, I unfortunately have to sell to get a 4 door. It has been meticulously cared for by me and the sole previous owner. Small back story, my family owns (where I work) a German auto repair facility in New Orleans. So all work has been done by me and my father, using only OEM parts or better. My intent was to restore it to look and feel brand new because the e46 has been my favorite car for a while and I was too young to afford it when it was new. I did almost the entire interior, most of the suspension components, brakes, and new engine gaskets and seals. Interior: The car comes equipped from the factory with: -heated seats -electric adjustment w/ for/aft, lumbar, etc -Harmon / Kardon sound system -Weather Tech Digifit Floormats (purchased new on 10/13) -oem zhp weighted shift knob -ultra white led light kit in all the interior lights The interior plastics have been replaced all within the last 3 months with brand new factory pieces: -all center console pieces -ash tray -pocket -cup holder -arm rest -all with zero nicks or scratches - the interior looks brand new -trim has been painted oem titanium silver to match car -the door cards are flawless -passenger seat and rear seats are immaculate -driver seat has small wear from getting in and out - no tears/rips/etc Suspension / Brakes / Wheels: I installed Turner Motorsport drilled rotors front and rear w/ ceramic pads January 2013, virtually zero dust. Looks Great - low maintenance - excellent performance. In March and April, I replaced all the front bushings, rear trailing arm bushings with the urethane limiters, upper strut mounts, strut bearings, rear strut mounts, and all components associated with shocks and springs. That was done when I installed H&R sport springs and Koni yellow shocks. When I did that I also installed 18x8.5 and 18x10 BBS RXII wheels, refinished right before installation - polished lips and centers refinished in BMW DGII (dark graphite metallic) and wrapped in Bridgestone RE760s. -H&R Sport Springs (3/2013) -Koni Yellow Adjustable Shocks (3/2013) -Front / Rear Strut / Shock Mounts (3/2013) -BBS RXII (2-Piece) 18x8.8 , 18x10 refinished with BMW Dark Graphite Metallic and Polished Lips (3/2013) -Bridgestone RE760 Sport Tires (3/2013) -Rear Trailing Arm Bushings (3/2013) -Front Control Arm Bushings / All Swaybar Bushings (4/2013) -Engine/Transmission Mount (6/2011) -Guibo (6/2011) All the corner markers and turn signals are new OEM amber ones, except tails which are OEM non led clear and red, all bulbs are the "no show" chrome bulbs. Exterior paint has zero scratches or dings except the typical pepper on the hood and bumper, I have the hood and bumper scheduled to be painted 2nd week of January. If the car goes for the buy it now price I will get it painted at no additional cost to the buyer, so at that point the exterior will show zero scratches or dents/dings. (that process will take 3-4 days). The car gets clayed once and year, and waxed twice a year. Engine: Engine and exhaust are stock with zero oil/fluid leaks. Engine is strong with recent services within last 9 months of: Green Performance Air Filter Valve Adjustment Spark plugs A/C cabin filter 6 ignition coils Valve cover gasket Oil relief valve Front crank seal Oil pan gasket New starter New battery Alternator (November 12') Transmission fluid service Rear end oil service - probably forgetting something - but I have all the service records dating back to at least '08 Vanos and rod bearing service has both been completed (rod bearing done in '04) by previous owner. Never Tracked or Wrecked!!!! Zero Subframe Issues!!!! Over $7K spent in wheels, struts/shocks, springs, and brakes in the last year. Buy with full confidence. Car will receive a full detail before delivery. If necessary, please contact me through ebay. Then we can exchange phone numbers to get into a more detailed conversation. |

BMW crushing ActiveE EVs, saving all batteries
Sat, May 24 2014It's unlikely to spark a movement and a movie, the way a certain EV1 did a decade ago, but anyone who's seen Who Killed The Electric Car? will likely cringe at this bit of news. Despite the fact that crushing and recycling old vehicles is standard operating procedure in the auto industry, when EVs are involved, it's always a touchy subject. The next phase will see "all of the lithium-ion batteries being repurposed for Battery Second Life research projects." So, what's the news? Well, the image you see above, which comes from the spotting of 16 smashed BMW ActiveE EVs on flatbed trailers on California Route 91 near Los Angeles, CA. EV advocate Chelsea Sexton told Green Car Reports, "It's all very deja vu, right down to [BMW's] DriveNow promotion as a don't-look-behind-the-curtain distraction – recall GM touting EV1s being donated to museums and universities? – and VINs spray painted on the sides, allowing former drivers to identify their own cars." BMW's take on this is that the ActiveEs were always meant to have a limited lifespan, and their time has come. As spokesman Dave Buchko tells AutoblogGreen, "The learning begun with the ActiveE will transition to the next phase with all of the lithium-ion batteries being repurposed for Battery Second Life research projects." (You can read his full statement below.) Originally, there were 700 ActiveEs leased to Electronauts (give or take). Yahoo! Autos points out that the ActiveEs were originally imported into the US as "pre-production" cars, which means they can't be sold, they can only be used for carsharing projects or re-leased. Eighty of those ActiveEs recently found a second life as vehicles in BMW's DriveNow carsharing fleet in San Francisco (bringing the total of ActiveEs in the program to 150) and "some have also been returned to Munich for additional research markets," Buchko said. The big picture here is that no one should be sad to see these cars go. Yes, they may have had some life left in them, but the rules say their time is done and everything is being done to crush responsibly in accordance with the law. Like Plug In Cars says, we're in a completely different era now than we were when GM crushed all those EV1s a decade ago. Instead of marking the end of a plug-in vehicle program, sending the ActiveEs away to be recycled is a symbol of the evolution and growth of BMW's i Project.
Someone's willing to pay $16,000 for a hollow, non-working BMW i8
Tue, Aug 26 2014There is an unusual BMW i8 for sale on eBay right now. Unlike your average – and by that we mean "working" – i8, this one pretty much just sits there, looking pretty. See, the i8 in question is just a promotional body shell. It's fullsize and being sold (we think) by a legit BMW dealer (Laurel BMW of Westmont), so it's got strong ties to the real thing, but there's nothing inside. In fact, you can't open the doors or windows and the wheels don't move, unless you count the tiny rolling castors that are a part of the prop. There is no fancy plug-in hybrid powertrain – no powertrain of any sort, in fact – and it was "professionally crafted just for BMW dealers." The headlights do turn on, though, so that's something. What's most impressive, though, is that there are 50 bids for this non-working BMW. In fact, the bidding has climbed up to $16,000. For a car that can't fulfill its mission as a car, that's pretty impressive. Oh, and those bids have not yet hit the reserve price, so the dealer is obviously hoping it can get more money for this hollow BMW. The official base MSRP for a working i8 is $135,700. The first i8 delivered in the US, a special edition for Pebble Beach, just sold for $825,000.
These are the cars with the best and worst depreciation after 5 years
Thu, Nov 19 2020The average new vehicle sold in America loses nearly half of its initial value after five years of ownership. No surprise there; we all expect that shiny new car to start depreciating as soon as we drive it off the lot. But some vehicles lose value a lot faster than others. According to data provided by iSeeCars.com, trucks and truck-based sport utility vehicles generally hold their value better than other vehicle types, with the Jeep Wrangler — in both four-door Unlimited and standard two-door styles — and Toyota Tacoma sitting at the head of the pack. The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited's average five-year depreciation of 30.9% equals a loss in value of $12,168. That makes Jeep's four-door off-roader the best overall pick for buyers looking to minimize depreciation. The Toyota Tacoma's 32.4% loss in initial value means it loses just $10,496. The smaller dollar amount — the least amount of money lost after five years — indicates that Tacoma buyers pay less than Wrangler Unlimited buyers, on average, when they initially buy the vehicle. The standard two-door Jeep Wrangler is third on the list, depreciating 32.8% after five years and losing $10,824. Click here for a full list of the top 10 vehicles with the least depreciation over five years. On the other side of the depreciation coin, luxury sedans tend to plummet in value at a much faster rate than other vehicle types. The BMW 7 Series leads the losers with a 72.6% drop in value after five years, which equals an alarming $73,686. BMW's slightly smaller 5 Series is next, depreciating 70.1%, or $47,038, over the same period. Number three on the biggest losers list is the Nissan Leaf, the only electric vehicle to appear in the bottom 10. The electric hatchback matches the 5 Series with a 70.1% drop in value, but since it's a much cheaper vehicle, that percentage equals a much smaller $23,470 loss.
