This is a stunning Titanium Silver 1998 BMW E36 M3. The M3 has been exceptionally well taken care of and the car truly speaks for itself. I purchased this car in June 2013 with 100K miles on it from a dealer who received it on a trade-in. I am the 2nd owner and have a stack of service records/receipts from the original owner that prove the car was well maintained. The car is an absolute blast to drive, no issues, and really stands out when compared to other E36 M3s that you see around. I recently purchased an 2003 (E46) M3 and decided to let this one go despite its superb history. It doesn't need any work and is ready to buy and drive! Condition and Details: Engine: Has a K&N intake which I have cleaned and re-oiled the filter once since owning. Other than that it is completely stock. It starts and runs excellently with no issues. A/C is ice cold and heater works. Exhaust: Stock exhaust is in great shape. The catalytic converter heat shields are slightly loose which caused a rattle. I eliminated this by tightening a coat hangar wire around them. This fix came recommended by my mechanic as it is a common issue and several workarounds exist. Transmission: Stock as well as all related parts. It shifts extremely smooth and the clutch has a great feel to it. Cooling System: Water pump, thermostat, and thermostat housing replaced at 79981 miles. Suspension: Stock suspension. Left front spring was broken when I bought the car which I replaced with a new stock one. Brakes: New front rotors (Brembo). Those were replaced to eliminate a vibration under braking due to the rotors being warped. All brakes work properly including E-brake. Wheels/Tires: M Forged Double Spoke staggered wheels; 17x7.5 Front and 17x8.5 Rear. Sumitomo HTR Z II tires. Body: Paint is exceptional for its age. It has a few blemishes shown in the photos. No dents anywhere on the car. I painted the front bumper and front lip because both were considerably scratched with rock chips, scratches, etc. and needed to be freshened up. Headlights are DEPO Euro Glass Ellipsoids with Phillips Diamond Vision 5000k H7 bulbs. Front turn signals are DEPO smoked corner lights with "stealth" bulbs that look silver but flash orange. Sidemarkers are DEPO smoked sidemarkers with "stealth" bulbs as well. No orange shows through the plastic for a nice clean look. Tail lights are DEPO Euro-style clear lights. Stock fog lights. Kidney grills are painted black to give it a more aggressive look. Interior: Black electronically adjustable Vader seats are in great shape. Rear seats are in great shape as well. All electronics, lights, and gauges work. Gauge cluster looks great and has no issues whatsoever. No dead pixels in any of the displays. On board computer and radio are fully functional. Trunk mounted 6 CD changer works as well. No service engine lights as long as I've owned the car. I replaced the stock 4-spoke steering wheel with the more desirable 3-spoke M Sport wheel. Carpet is in excellent shape with no rips or stains. Illuminated 5-speed M shift knob functions perfectly and looks great when lit up at night. Extras: Original owners manual, original window sticker, maintenance records, full size spare, factory jack, tire iron, tool kit, wheel locks. BMW shows off 435i Coupe with M Performance parts
Sat, 20 Jul 2013Greetings from the famous Circuito do Estoril racetrack in Portugal. We're here to put the 2014 BMW 4 Series coupe through its paces, and we'll have the chance to sample the updated 2014 BMW M5 with its new Competition Pack, as well. But before going out for some hot laps, we took a few minutes to check out this 435i Coupe that's been fitted with a full suite of goodies from the BMW M Performance parts catalog.
Starting with the exterior, carbon fiber bits are the most noticeable additions, with the lightweight material added in the form of a massive front splitter, mirror caps and a rear spoiler. Other visual changes include lightweight 20-inch wheels, a blacked-out grille, and unique M Performance side stripes. No, that's not a shadow you see under the 435i's strong side character line - that's a stripe. Yes, we're serious.
Inside (we couldn't get photos of the interior, sorry!), BMW has added its sport steering wheel with race display, unique M floormats, steel pedals, and a whole mess of carbon fiber and Alcantara trim.
Toyota passes BMW as most valuable car brand
Tue, 21 May 2013An annual market study of the strongest brands across various industries has seen Toyota leapfrog BMW as the world's most valuable automotive brand. Toyota's 2013 brand value rose to $24.5 billion, up 12 percent versus 2012 numbers according to market research company Millward Brown's BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands list. BMW's value fell slightly; down by 2 percent to a total of $24 billion.
Mercedes-Benz finished in third place in the automotive category, up 11 percent from 2012 for a valuation of $18 billion. Honda ($12.4 billion, down 2 percent) and Nissan ($10.2 billion, up 3 percent) rounded out the top five for the category. Volkswagen was the only other auto brand that finished in the top 100 overall, in 100th place. Audi made the greatest percentage gain over 2012, up 18 percent to $5.5 billion, but finished outside of the top 100.
Technology companies dominated the overall list, with Apple, Google and IBM ranking one through three. Couture brand Prada was 2013's biggest gainer, rising by 63 percent over 2012.
BMW i5 could get Toyota-sourced hydrogen power
Tue, 18 Nov 2014It's starting to feel like the automotive landscape is right on the cusp of a boom in hydrogen-fueled vehicles. After all, the Toyota FCV is nearly ready, Volkswagen is readying a fuel cell concept for this week's Los Angeles Auto Show and Hyundai already sells its Tucson Fuel Cell. The next big name to add to that list might be BMW, as the company's co-development deal with Toyota starts to bear fruit.
According to Autocar, BMW may use a version of the fuel cell system from the Toyota FCV in the future i5. As part of its eco-oriented i sub-brand, the i5 is expected to be a stretched version of the i3 (pictured above) with extra rear legroom and cargo space. It's unclear at the moment whether a battery-powered pure electric powertrain will also be available. If accurate, then the rumor could give the Bavarian brand a counterattack against Mercedes-Benz' planned fuel cell vehicle in 2017.
BMW and Toyota first signed the memorandum of understanding to co-develop fuel cells, lightweight technology and a sports car back in 2012, and they made the arrangement official in late 2013. So far, few details on the progress of the work have been disclosed, but the performance model has been rumored to use a front-engine, all-wheel drive layout with supercapacitors.
