I have 100% satisfaction rating with eBay and plan on keeping it. Please don't hesitate to contact me for more information, pictures, references, questions or just to chat about this M roadster.

This M Roadster is very well sorted, outstanding condition, mechanically and cosmetically. The new suspension makes this car handles like it is on rails; Dinan stage 2 upgrade yields F1 like exhaust tone, power increase from 5,000 rpm to 6800 rpm is incredible; power top is in excellent shape; tires are fresh with plenty of rubber.

1st owner was an exotic car collector; car was serviced at BMW dealers in the greater Chicago area. He died of metastatic melanoma at a young age in 2011. The car apparently was not driven much in 2010-2011. His good friend obtained the car in 2012 as part of the estate and moved to Texas.  He sold the car to me and at that time he noted despite having the transmission shift pins replaced and clutch replaced, the M roadster was still hard to shift.

 @ 74395 miles May2012

New front and rear struts, bushings, control arm bushings, front sway bar link left, water pump, slotted high performance front &rear rotors and pads, thermostat, glove box support upgrade & 4 wheel alignment

I drove the car for about 2 months, noted it ran smooth, had mega power, but it shifted with difficulty. Inspection at Speirs Automotive Engineering revealed terminal transmission requiring replacement. If you're a car nut like me, you are familiar with this situation...once you’re in there, you don’t want to have to work on it again, so…

@75182 miles August 2012

Replaced transmission (donor from Bavarian Auto, 24,000 mile California car, 6 months warranty), UUC Stage 2 M5 clutch conversion & lightweight flywheel, throw out bearing, clutch master cylinder, clutch slave cylinder, hoses, engine mounts, shift lever bushings, release arm spring, flex disc, drive shaft , replaced differential (donor from Bavarian Auto, 24,000 mile California car, 6 month warranty), transmission fluid, differential fluid, service A/C system, Freon, exhaust gaskets, hangers…total cost $4,678,92

In anticipation of the next scheduled maintenance interval, it comes with new idler pulley, belt tensioner pulley, hydraulic accessory belttensioner assembly, accessory belt, A/C drive belt & A/C belt tensioner

If your state requires catalytic convert inspection, you mayneed to replace the catalytic converter. It was gutted by the original owner @the time of the Dinan upgrade; it looks stock from the outside. After market catalytic converter is available from ECS tuning for $251.71 (http://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-Z3-M_Roadster-S54_3.2L/ES2063872/)

Only cosmetic issues are the following:  BMW trunk emblem has clear coat breakdown, right front bumper on the top surface in front of the headlight has a patch of clear coat fade, steering wheel rubber air bag cover is oxidized slightly (steeringwheel leather is in excellent shape), wheels have mild clear coat worming

addendum 05.21.13:  thank you for your interest in my 1999 BMW M Roadster; yes the extra set of 18 inch wheels have good rubber on the rears,  but the front tires need replacing. All 4 are true/straight. Cheers! Tom

BMW to offer carbon fiber wheels in a year or two

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

The Citroën SM sat on the first set of production glass fiber and resin wheels in 1972 when parent company Michelin developed the exotic hoops in order to take the SM rallying. It wasn't until 2008 that we got the first all-carbon-fiber wheel for passenger cars in the form of a prototype model from Weds Sports in Japan that remained a prototype. Australian company Carbon Revolution followed that a year later with its CR-9 all-CF wheel, first introduced on the Shelby Ultimate Aero and now available for independent purchase for about $15,000 per set. BMW could be the first OEM to offer entire wheels in carbon fiber reinforced plastic in two years.
The wheels - either all-CFRP or using a CFRP rim and alloy spokes - were shown off during BMW's Innovation Days in Munich and are products of the development work done on its i-branded cars. The full-CFRP wheel is 35-percent lighter than a forged alloy wheel, the hybrid alloy and CFRP wheel is 25-percent lighter, making for a decent drop in unsprung rotating weight. As demonstrators during a tech day the wheels aren't yet in the pipeline for production and EU approval, but an article in Auto Express claims that they could be on the market as soon as two years from now.
Other possible parts include a full carbon fiber steering wheel and propeller shaft, the latter of which is coming as a single-piece component on the new M3 and M4. BMW is also talking up its use of secondary carbon fiber - waste material from i3 and i8 production - that can be used for items like IP support structures, seat frames and spare wheels in place of traditional metals like aluminum and magnesium. There's an excerpt of the Innovation Day press release below with more details.

BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is the world's first front-drive Bimmer [w/videos]

Fri, 14 Feb 2014

While BMW has been showing concepts for its Active Tourer for over a year, they never seemed entirely real. Why would BMW, a company that has built its image on sporty, rear-wheel drive sedans, move into the five-door, front-wheel-drive market? The answer is still not entirely clear, but the new BMW 2 Series Active Tourer is very real. It launches in Europe later this year and is rumored to come to the US in 2015.
To brand purists, a front-wheel drive BMW may seem anathema to everything the company has built, and the production Active Tourer has clearly been built to provide drivers with a luxurious but utilitarian package first and foremost. It is 170.9 inches long and rides on a 105.1-inch wheelbase, but despite its compact dimensions, its high roof allows for 16.53-cubic-feet of cargo space with the rear seats up or 53.33 cubic feet with them folded flat. Its general appearance is nearly identical to the previous concepts, except with a blunter nose and cleaner lines. The front end wears BMW's traditional dual circular headlights and naturally, while the profile incorporates the company's traditional Hofmeister kink into the greenhouse's rear pillar. The interior has been designed to be especially useful with a sliding rear seat, adjustable rear backrests, fold-flat backrests and optional features like an automatic tailgate and panoramic sunroof.
Unlike both previous concepts, none of the Active Tourer models at launch use hybrid power. For Europe, the hatchback is going on sale with three engine options. The basic version is the 218i Active Tourer with a 1.5-liter, turbocharged three-cylinder with 134 horsepower that we just previewed in the 2014 Mini Cooper - good enough for average fuel economy of 48 miles per gallon in the EU cycle when equipped with a six-speed manual. The next step up is the 225i Active Tourer with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder that makes 228 hp and offers 39-mpg average fuel economy. Finally, there is the there is the 218d Active Tourer with its 148-hp, 2.0-liter turbodiesel and 57 mpg average fuel economy on the EU cycle. A six-speed manual is standard on all of them, but there is a six-speed automatic option for the 218i and eight-speed automatics available for the 225i and 218d. All-wheel drive will be available on future models.

BMW says current M3 sold out, no new AWD M models planned

Mon, 06 May 2013

Car and Driver asked the head of BMW M, Friedrich Nitschke, a few questions about what the go-fast division had in mind for the future, and was rewarded with some enlightening answers. The best news to purist ears is that Nitschke said customers don't want all-wheel drive on their M cars, so it's the rear wheels alone that will propel new product into the future. If you want both an M badge and four driven wheels, it's the X5 M, X6 M and M Performance models you're looking for in the catalog.
"Mixed bag" is the phrase you're looking for regarding the other answers. Nitschke said that future M engines "at the core of their architecture" would "be closer to BMW AG engines" that are optimized for M cars, instead of following in the line of unique marvels like the V10 and naturally aspirated V8. They will keep the high redlines, however, with Nitschke saying "there is room beyond" the 7,000 rpm mark in BMW's current V8 turbos.
Managing weight will keep the same priority for M that it is for every other brand, so electrically assisted power steering is coming, as is an "unconventional" materials mix. At the smaller end of the M scale, Nitschke described three-cylinder engines as "attractive," saying that the brand can produce more than 310 horsepower from a three-pot.
