Re-listing because previous winner had a family emergency and change of time frame, so lucky new buyer! I've also added a few pictures under the hood. I'm selling my beautiful 1991 V-12 BMW 850i. I've owned the owned the car for nearly four years, but my work has kept me almost completely in New York and the car has been garaged. In the past four years, I've only put 3,500 miles on the car and maintained upkeep. It's time to pass the torch and let someone else enjoy this classic. I have all documents pertaining to the service that was performed to the vehicle. Clean title in hand. Clean Car Fax. Clean Inside. Regular oil changes, no accidents. Car has always been garaged or covered. Besides the BBS rims and an 500w Kenwood amplifier the car is stock. Average wear on the leather interior for a that's 20 yrs old. Work that I've done in the last 1000 miles: *two brand new ZR-18 tires *new water pump •new serpentine belts •new thermostat *new fan clutch *new fuel pump Work that needs to be done: Driver side door actuator Oil Leak in Timing Chain Tensioner Loose Front Suspension This is well on it's way to being an incredible car. It will continue to need love as any classic car does. Want to find it a good home. There aren't many cars from the early '90s that could compete with the 850 in terms of performance or style, and the 850 still looks contemporary. The long hood and short deck emphasize the big V12 under the hood, and with folding headlights, the shark-like profile definitely looks the part of the king of the street. With a cost approaching six figures in 1991, you got paint that was far beyond basic assembly line and it was definitely worth it, because this coupe still looks fantastic. The exterior is diamond black with gray leather. BMW's reputation for being performance-oriented doesn't come by accident, and the sporting buckets are both supportive and all-day comfortable, designed to hammer from Paris to Munich at triple-digit speeds. Everything was standard, including power seats, windows, and locks, climate control, a trip computer, and a powerful stereo that still impresses today, it's a joy to run it through the gears. Some more info about the BMW 850i: The 850i was a technological showcase, boasting cutting-edge luxury features such as remote keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, a power tilt-and-telescope steering wheel, a twelve-speaker stereo, and windows that automatically closed at high speeds. An active five-link rear suspension helped steer the 850i at the limit, and an early form of electronic stability control helped keep the big coupe on course. Under the hood, an aluminum-block, 5.0-liter V-12 used the industry's only drive-by-wire electronic throttles. BMW's familiar "twin-kidney" grille was installed, but the hidden headlamps was a feature never before seen on BMW models in the U.S . A new 8 Series cost around US$100,000.
The BMW 850i coupe is truly something special, with a V12 engine producing some 300 hp and a top speed of 186 mph. The engine itself is barely audible. No roaring, no screaming, just a soft, pleasant hum. Its 296-horsepower, 5.0-liter V12 engine came from the 750iL, the new 850i was created with a more sporty character. But driving a BMW 850CSi is relaxing as in no other car. BMW discussing supercar collaboration with McLaren
Mon, Sep 21 2015BMW is reportedly considering a new halo supercar. But rather than go it alone, word has it that the Bavarian automaker is discussing a potential partnership with McLaren to make the idea a reality. This according to Britain's Car magazine, which suggests that negotiations are well underway. The proposal would see the BMW supercar based on the same architecture that will to underpin Woking's P16 project that's set to replace current 650S. Rather than use the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 that McLaren developed together with Ricardo, the Bimmer version would use Munich's own engine: a 4.0-liter V8 with quad turbochargers – two conventional spools and two more electrically driven chargers. Their combined effect would net an expected 750 horsepower. Further differentiations on McLaren's carbon monocoque architecture for use in the BMW would include custom bodywork, aerodynamics, and interior fitments to include a unique instrument panel. Production, however, would be handled at the McLaren Production Centre in Woking, to the tune of several hundred units per year. The project would take the place of several aborted programs undertaken internally at BMW. One called for an entirely unique supercar developed in-house, referred to internally as the M100. When that project was aborted so that BMW could concentrate on the i sub-brand, BMW's own skunkworks shifted its focus to developing a more performance-focused version of the i8, known by some as the i8 CSi. When that project was canned as well, discussions with McLaren commenced. It wouldn't be the first time BMW would outsource development of its own supercar, or even the first time BMW would collaborate with McLaren on such a project. Initial development work on the original M1 in the 1970s was undertaken by Lamborghini before being taken in-house. And, of course, BMW provided the engine for the legendary McLaren F1. Meanwhile McLaren performed a similar function for Mercedes-Benz with the SLR, demonstrating Woking's experience in building flagship supercars for German automakers. This latest project could suffer the same fate as the M100 and i8 CSi programs. But if it is approved, it could yield both coupe and convertible versions, with the first slated to surface at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017 and reach dealerships in 2019.
Thanks to smaller engines, vehicle dependability falls for first time in 16 years
Fri, Feb 14 2014As automakers have made engines smaller and smaller to improve fuel economy, problems in those vehicles have gotten bigger and bigger. That's the synopsis of a J.D. Power vehicle-dependability study, which found that dependability dropped for the first time in 16 years, largely because the proliferation of four-cylinder engines is causing the vehicles to be less reliable. Specifically, the number of problems per 100 vehicles (or what J.D. Power calls PP100) during the past 12 months for 2011 model-year vehicles rose six percent from the year-earlier figures for 2010 model-year cars. Singling out four-cylinder vehicles revealed about a 10-percent increase in problems during the past year. This issues largely related to engine hesitation, rough transmission shifting and lack of power, signaling the inability of vehicle makers to iron out some of the problems in their smaller engines as they strove for better fuel economy. Six- and five-cylinder engines proved far more reliable. Among car brands, BMW's Mini sub-brand came out as least reliable, with 185 problems per 100 vehicles during the past year. Toyota's Lexus badge was easily the most reliable, with just 68 problems per 100 vehicles. Coming in second place was Mercedes-Benz. The overall average was 133. Check out J.D. Power's press release below. J.D. Power Reports: Increased Engine and Transmission Problems Contribute to Decline in Vehicle Dependability for The First Time in More Than 15 Years General Motors Company Receives Eight Segment Awards, While Toyota Motor Corporation Garners Seven and Honda Motor Company Earns Six WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: o Owners of 3-year-old vehicles (2011 model year) report more problems than did owners of 3-year-old vehicles last year, according to the J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Vehicle Dependability StudySM (VDS) released today. The study, now in its 25th year, examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2011 model-year vehicles. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality. The study finds that overall vehicle dependability averages 133 PP100, a 6 percent increase in problems from 126 PP100 in 2013. This marks the first time since the 1998 study that the average number of problems has increased. "Until this year, we have seen a continual improvement in vehicle dependability," said David Sargent, vice president of global automotive at J.D.
