With curves and creases like the Batmobile and a track-ready 6-speed manual gearbox, this classic German roadster will never be mistaken for a 'chick car.'  Black Sapphire Metallic paint, beautiful 18" wheels, premium sound w/original 6-disc CD changer, light-sensing and auto-leveling xenon headlights, rain-sensing wipers and heated seats, always garaged and meticulously cared for.  Best of all, this 3.0 includes the Sports Package, which reduces steering assist, lowers ride height, tightens the suspension and increases throttle response with the push of a button. This $1200 option completely transforms the car’s handling and acceleration and is a must-have for any driving enthusiast.

Only 61K miles, mostly freeway, pristine condition inside and out.  Full dealer inspection and brake job at 58K miles.  No accidents, clean title; CarFax report available upon request via email, all maintenance records also available.  Asking $15,950 or best reasonable offer.  Private-seller book value is over $18K.  Feel free to email with questions, to request CarFax PDF, or to schedule a test drive.

As one of the lightest cars in its class, with 225HP and a 0-60 time of 5.3 seconds, the 2004 3.0i makes 41 more horsepower than the 2.5-liter model, is about 0.5 seconds quicker and costs $7,300 more (MSRP), yet its fuel economy is nearly identical (29 mpg highway, 21 mpg city) -- truly exceptional performance even by 2013 standards.  Its 9.2 cubic feet of cargo space make it surprisingly practical for a roadster, and according to Consumer Reports and BMW service technicians, this generation of Z4 (2003-2008) is BMW's most reliable car.  (Note: From 2006-2008, the low-end 2.5-liter model is renamed the "3.0i" and the higher-end model is called the "3.0si."  So this 2004 3.0 is the equivalent of a 2006-2008 3.0si, and any "3.0i" in that range is actually a 2.5-liter.)

Foreign bidders are welcome; buyer is responsible for all fees and duties related to exporting vehicle from the US and shipping & importing to destination country.

"The Z4 boasts 0.91 g of stick at the skidpad... grips the road as surely as a Corvette or a Porsche Boxster S...  and its electrically assisted steering is something akin to telepathic.  It's as light as the steering in all 3-series cars, but it weights up nicely with speed." -- Car & Driver (Jan 2003)

"Hitting the highway, you are reminded that the BMW straight-6 is simply a classic engine -- turbine-smooth, free revving and quite torquey once the revs climb above about 2500 rpm.  From there, it rips up to its 6500-rpm redline in a glassy surge of thrust.  The 6-speed Getrag shifts with nice, mechanical precision... and in corners, the BMW is absolutely planted.  A combination of high grip, good balance and flat weight transfer without body roll give the car a sure-footed, reassuring feel in rapid transitions." -- Road & Track (Jan 2003)

BMW 1 Series dead for 2014

Fri, 18 Oct 2013

BMW is temporarily abandoning the increasingly competitive and popular compact luxury segment, as it's announced that its 1 Series Coupe and Convertible will be discontinued for the 2014 model year, marking an ignominious end to a line that spawned a pair of excellent high-performance models during its life. Production on the Coupe officially ended in August, while convertible production was taken offline in June.
And while we're mourning the loss of the 1 Series, we're left wondering about the status of its replacement, the 2 Series. That car, which we've already seen inside and out and know the specs on, is expected to make its debut at the 2014 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, although it's unclear just how quickly BMW will get it to showrooms. Assuming BMW doesn't have a bumper crop of already-built 2013 models to hold them over, that leaves Munich-based manufacturer somewhat vulnerable, particularly as Audi and Mercedes-Benz are both launching new models in the compact-premium space vacated by the 1 Series. Any delay in the arrival of the 2 Series could be bad news for BMW, especially if the public is receptive to the new Audi A3 and CLA-Class (early signs suggest that the baby Benz has traction).
In addition, BMW has made a number of changes across the rest of its lineup which are listed below in the official press release. Some of the notable changes, though, include a revised 445-horsepower twin-turbocharged V8 on the 5 Series, a limited-edition Frozen Brilliant White Edition for the 6 Series and the rollout of a new, touchpad-equipped version of iDrive on a number of BMW models. BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is a minivan by any other name

Wed, Mar 4 2015

The Ultimate Driving Mini Minivan? Too early to say, considering that we've not yet driven it and so we don't know if it's the ultimate anything. But the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer definitely slots into place as a small MPV in the European market, hence the mini minivan designation, though it doesn't have sliding doors. We don't have any indication that this 2 Series variant will come to the United States, in case you were wondering. With the option of a third row, this seven-passenger, front-wheel-drive (or optionally, all-wheel-drive) machine from BMW is sure to ruffle a few enthusiast feathers, but it also has the potential to be a big seller for the German brand. Available with a range of three- and four-cylinder engines offering between 116 and 192 horsepower, the 2 Series Gran Tourer packs a lot of space into a very small platform. It may not be the prettiest vehicle to wear the Roundel, but it may be the most practical. See it for yourself from every angle in our high-res gallery of live images above, and feel free to read more in the press release below. The new BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer. 11.02.2015 With the new BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer, BMW has carved out yet another new vehicle segment. With its generous space, versatility and groundbreaking flexibility, the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is the world's first premium compact model to offer up to seven seats and fully meet the mobility requirements of young families. Compact yet capacious. Despite its compact dimensions – measuring just 4,556 millimetres long, 1,800 mm wide and 1,608 mm high – the new BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer offers ample space and a generous luggage compartment that can be extended in capacity from 645 to 805 litres. With the rear-seat backrests folded down, this rises to an impressive 1,905 litres of load space. Ensuring maximum variability is the standard-fitted fore-aft sliding rear seat bench – with a 40:20:40-split backrest that folds down at the press of a button – which allows three child seats to be fitted. Extending the possibilities even further is an optional third row of seats which can be completely lowered into the loading floor. Maximising the vehicle's everyday practicality is a range of storage options for all three rows of seats, as well as rails on the front-seat backrests with fold-out tables attached.

On this episode, Mike Austin and David Gluckman dive into some useful advice for people searching for a good used car, something David has been dealing with lately. They also talk about what they've been driving lately (Mike took a road trip in our long-term Fiat) and answer some Spend My Money requests from listeners looking for advice. And we have listener questions and comments to discuss, so thanks for sending those in. The rundown is below. Remember, if you have a car-related question you'd like us to answer or you want buying advice of your very own, send a message or a voice memo to podcast at autoblog dot com. (If you record audio of a question with your phone and get it to us, you could hear your very own voice on the podcast. Neat, right?) And please send trivia questions!
