Up for sale is my wife's 2010 BMW X5M. We are selling it to make room for her 2014 RR Supercharged Sport that is due to arrive in 2 weeks (we needed a third row). I did not like the offer they gave me on trade-in. I would love to keep it but we have 5 cars (I am also selling our 2006 Mini Cooper S with 20k miles). It is finished in beautiful Carbon Black Metallic (Dark blue with black flake) and has the Black Merino interior with black piano wood finishing. This is the best of both worlds. It is a true sports car (555 horsepower and 0-60 in 4.2 seconds) and a functional SUV with all wheel drive! This has the same engine as the new BMW M5. It is like having an all wheel drive awd BMW M5 that can fit 5 people and their gear!! It is perfect in all types of weather. This was $100,000 new! Why pay $20K more for a Cayenne Turbo!?!? We bought it as a BMW Certified Pre-owned vehicle from Motorwerks BMW in Minneapolis. We traded in her 2009 X5 4.8; what a big difference! There is a reason why the X5M is more $$ than a regular X5! BMW is very strict with their certification and this X5M passed with flying colors. It has the CPO warranty till 8/31/2015 or 100,000 miles which is fully transferable to the new owner. This is another 19 months of worry free warranty that is good at any BMW dealership and has roadside assistance! You can buy an additional extended warranty from BMW, I believe it is ~$1,800 for another year (8/2016). This is one of the most comfortable cars we have owned. We drove it from Illinois to Virginia and back. It made 18-20 mpg on the highway. The seats were amazing and ride quality was excellent! It currently has 48,700 miles. It is in amazing condition in and out. My wife is a physician and parks it in a heated garage at work and home. We have no children... yet, and we are non smokers. It is washed weekly and detailed every 3 months. Options: Cold weather package Premium sound package Power tailgate Comfort access Panoramic moonroof Lumbar support Voice command Satellite radio Real Time Traffic Driver Assistance package High gloss roof rails BMW assist with Bluetooth Privacy glass HUD Side/Rear cameras Front/Rear Heated Seats Heated Steering Wheel Navigation 6 Disk CD Changer with hard drive USB/AUX/ipod Audio inputs 4 zone climate control park distance sensors tire pressure monitor auto dimming mirrors power folding mirrors high beam assist rain sensing wipers Adaptive Xenon headlights Launch control- only available on the X5M ! I have all the service records, manuals, keys, rear cargo cover, carfax. See the attached Carfax Buyback Guarantee! The previous owner is a lawyer from Minneapolis and is also an auto enthusiast. He traded it on a new Alpina B7. The carfax shows an accident 11-2010. I confirmed this with Motorwerks BMW and the previous owner. It was due to icy conditions and the X5M slid into the car in front of it and scraped the left side of the front bumper. It was reported due to the other vehicle having a cracked bumper cover . The X5M only suffered scratches and nothing had to be replaced! It did have the front bumper repainted by the Motorwerks body shop and it matches 100%. It also comes with the BMW carpet floor mats and BMW all weather mats. I also have a custom weathertech rear cargo mat that goes with the car. It has the upgraded white LED headlight Halos (2012+ style) and M emblems on the side and front of the vehicle. No other modifications. At 42,000 miles it had new Bridgestone Run Flats put on. 90% tread left! At 43,000 miles it received new pads and rotors. 90 % life left! 50,000 mile service and oil/filter change performed last month. It needs nothing but a new owner. Remember, this is not a dealer auction car. This our personal vehicle with ALL the history records. It also comes with all the accessories, not a stripped down auction car! The certified warranty is $$$ ! Car and Driver shows off awesome 1960s ads

Fri, Sep 11 2015

Someone must have recently rediscovered the keys to the archives at Car and Driver, and the access has been put to good use. Following last month's fantastic look at automotive ads from the '50s, there's now a new gallery running from March 1960 through December 1969. This collection provides a great overview of a decade full of iconic cars. If you're a fan of Carroll Shelby, particularly his Mustangs, then there's a lot to love among this group. One ad from July 1965 aimed to sell the GT350, but with an ocean of text and a tiny picture, it probably could've used a once-over by Don Draper's team. By December '65, the copywriters ironed out the problems with a spot proclaiming boldly "Shelby GT350 is 'Son of Cobra.'" The company offered some great accessories, too. For those into European motoring, there's a humorous attempt to sell the Alfa Romeo Giulia as both a racecar and family hauler. Toyota also boasts about the winning record for the 2000GT. Among the best text comes from BMW for lines like: "What's BMW got? The most advanced high-performance engine in any production car, for a cruising speed of 100 mph." Of course, Volkswagen's famous "Lemon" ad for the Beetle also gets its due here. Separately, each of these ads is fascinating, but taken together they tell the story of a great decade of motoring. Go give them all a read at Car and Driver. BMW Z8, Lambo LM002 sell for $192,500 apiece in Detroit [w/poll]

Wed, Jul 29 2015

Think a car are a bad investment? That all depends on what kind of car you're talking about. Because while most cars depreciate in value as soon as you drive them off the lot, others can do even better than hold their value. The cars that appreciate tend to be pretty high-end exotics, but they don't have to be multi-million-dollar classics to command a premium at auction. Just look at the results from RM Sotheby's Motor City sale in Detroit this past weekend. The auction house moved a solid $7.4 million worth of metal, which is pretty impressive when you consider that – unlike events at Lake Como or Pebble Beach – not one of the lots dipped into seven figures. 1930s-era American classics performed the strongest, with Duesenbergs, Packards, Auburns and the like all fetching hundreds of thousands. But what intrigued us most were the European exotics that rounded the top ten results. Amidst the Depression-era American steel were a BMW Z8 from 2001 and a 1988 Lamborghini LM002, each of which sold for an equal $192,500. Hardly the highest figures paid for European exotics this year, but considering how much they were worth just a few years ago, they've proven solid investments. BMW only made 5,703 examples of the Henrik Fisker-designed retro Z8, of which only 2,543 were brought to the United States, where they originally sold for $128,000. The most anyone had ever paid for one at auction, according to Sports Car Market, was $184,082, just this past March at Silverstone. That makes the price achieved this weekend a new record for one of the slinkiest vehicles the Bavarian automaker has ever made, representing an impressive 50-percent increase in value over the course of fourteen years. This particular example – chassis WBAEJ13481AH60437 for those keeping track – is decked out in silver over black, with less than 15,500 miles on the odometer. This Rambo Lambo was produced early in the 301-unit production run, with the sought-after carbureted engine and 32,000 miles on the clock. It didn't set any records at the same price, other examples of the LM002 having traded over the past few years for over $200k. But considering that Sant'Agata originally charged around $120-130k for the SUV when it was new, its selling price still represents about 50-percent appreciation (leaving inflation aside).

Recharge Wrap-up: Venturi to break electric world record, app shows where bike lanes are needed

Tue, Aug 19 2014

Electric automaker Venturi hopes to post a new electric land speed record this week, despite Bonneville Speed Week being cancelled. The VBB-3, developed with Ohio State University, is powered by two 1,500-hp electric motors. If the salt flats are sufficiently dry, the team hopes to set a new electric world speed record of over 600 kilometers per hour (373 mph), and possibly 700 kph (435 mph). The Venturi BB-2.5 set a record of 495 kph (307 mph) in 2010. Read more at Electric Autosport, and keep abreast of Venturi's progress at its Twitter account. A new app is trying to fix Wiesbaden, Germany's bike problem. A bike organization named the city the worst in the world for cycling. In response, a local group developed an app that uses crowdsourced routes to suggest where bike lanes and paths should go. The app tracks users routes as they ride, and maps them to show where the city could benefit from improving its infrastructure. The app and its results have the attention of government officials, too. See the video below, or read more at Fast Company. BMW has delivered the first i8s at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in California. The first customers include Roger Penske, Rick Hendrick and Tony Fadell (founder and CEO of Nest). The lucky new owners were also treated to a gourmet meal from Chef Thomas Keller, who was also among those to receive the i8 at the event. As mentioned, BMW also auctioned off a special edition i8 at Pebble Beach for $825,000, considerably more than the car's base MSRP of $135,700. Read more in the press release from BMW, below. Uber's Berlin ban has been suspended by a local court. The city banned the car-hailing app for failing to meet passenger safety standards. The court will now decide whether to uphold the ban or toss it out. This was the second time this year that Uber had been deemed unlawful in Berlin. Uber continued to operate throughout its ban, despite threats of fines. If upheld, Uber could be fined $34,000 for picking up a passenger. Read more at The New York Times.
