2006 Bmw X5 4.8is on 2040-cars
McLean, Virginia, United States
I purchased this car from another BMW enthusiast in Charlotte, NC just shy of 50,000 right here on Ebay. See my feedback dated 14 April 2011. The car is in overall great condition and I think anyone that views the car would agree. Reason for the sale is to upgrade to a larger SUV. I'm a typical American that hauls around kids and crap and just wants something along the size of a Tahoe. Car is fully loaded with comfort seats, heating steering wheel, heated rear seats, pano roof among the other stock options the 4.8is came with. Overall this car has been extremely reliable which is contrary to popular belief. Outside of standard services and fixing known problems with these cars (air struts, ps hoses) it's been a fantastic car.
Interior is in excellent condition. Only flaw I can really point to is the steering wheel trim is peeling which is fairly standard on these cars. I have the OEM BMW trim piece already and it will be passed along to the new owner. The navigation screen has a few smudges but nothing that affects the viewing while the car is on. You can only see them when the screen is dark. Leather is in great condition and shows very little wear. Carpet is clean, no stains, rips or tears. Exterior is also extremely well kept. The car has never been in an accident or had any paint work done. There is a small dent in the driver's side rear passenger door the size of a penny. It can easily be removed with PDR. There are a couple of nicks near the rear tailgate and bumper area but you have to be up close to see them. The wheels have some minor curb rash as well. Tires are fairly new Continental Extreme DWS. Mechanically the car has been serviced with the BMW dealer up until the factory warranty expired. I have the BMW service bulletin printout which shows everything handled while under factory warranty. Since I have owned the car it has been serviced at my local indy shop. I have all the service records and will also provide those to the new owner. Various repairs include both front air struts, power steering hoses, CAB's, Front Rotors & Pads. Known Problems • Valve cover gaskets are starting to seep. No major leaks and I am not topping off the oil, but they should be done in the next 5-10k miles. I would also suggest plugs at this time. • Rear brakes are almost to the wear sensor. The car is for sale in as-is condition, with no warranties included or implied. Again, it has been a great car and I would not hesitate to drive this car anytime or anywhere. This was a late 06 build date which is typically when BMW gets its act together and addresses common faults found in earlier builds. The car is clean and sitting in the garage awaiting a new owner. I'm happy to pickup the buyer at Dulles Airport or assist with shipping the vehicle. |

The UK votes for Brexit and it will impact automakers
Fri, Jun 24 2016It's the first morning after the United Kingdom voted for what's become known as Brexit – that is, to leave the European Union and its tariff-free internal market. Now begins a two-year process in which the UK will have to negotiate with the rest of the EU trading bloc, which is its largest export market, about many things. One of them may be tariffs, and that could severely impact any automaker that builds cars in the UK. This doesn't just mean companies that you think of as British, like Mini and Jaguar. Both of those automakers are owned by foreign companies, incidentally. Mini and Rolls-Royce are owned by BMW, Jaguar and Land Rover by Tata Motors of India, and Bentley by the VW Group. Many other automakers produce cars in the UK for sale within that country and also export to the EU. Tariffs could damage the profits of each of these companies, and perhaps cause them to shift manufacturing out of the UK, significantly damaging the country's resurgent manufacturing industry. Autonews Europe dug up some interesting numbers on that last point. Nissan, the country's second-largest auto producer, builds 475k or so cars in the UK but the vast majority are sent abroad. Toyota built 190k cars last year in Britain, of which 75 percent went to the EU and just 10 percent were sold in the country. Investors are skittish at the news. The value of the pound sterling has plummeted by 8 percent as of this writing, at one point yesterday reaching levels not seen since 1985. Shares at Tata Motors, which counts Jaguar and Land Rover as bright jewels in its portfolio, were off by nearly 12 percent according to Autonews Europe. So what happens next? No one's terribly sure, although the feeling seems to be that the jilted EU will impost tariffs of up to 10 percent on UK exports. It's likely that the UK will reciprocate, and thus it'll be more expensive to buy a European-made car in the UK. Both situations will likely negatively affect the country, as both production of new cars and sales to UK consumers will both fall. Evercore Automotive Research figures the combined damage will be roughly $9b in lost profits to automakers, and an as-of-yet unquantified impact on auto production jobs. Perhaps the EU's leaders in Brussels will be in a better mood in two years, and the process won't devolve into a trade war. In the immediate wake of the Brexit vote, though, the mood is grim, the EU leadership is angry, and investors are spooked.
So, how do you actually pronounce that automaker's name?
Thu, Jan 21 2016You probably have that friend who always says Porsche wrong, or maybe it's someone who keeps reminding you it's actually two syllables. Whichever side of the pronunciation debate you fall on, you'll find someone to root for in the video above. And before you ask, this was all the video team's idea. So don't get mad at me for being the voice of reason. BMW Chevrolet Hyundai Nissan Rolls-Royce Videos Original Video nissan qashqai
Ruby celebrates 90 years of BMW Motorrad with special helmet collection
Fri, 25 Oct 2013BMW isn't the only one celebrating its own 90th anniversary building motorbikes. So is Atelier Ruby, that French manufacturer of jewel-like motorcycle helmets.
Ruby has just released a capsule collection of helmets marking BMW Motorrad's 90th anniversary, and we want them almost as much as a Bimmer bike itself. The Munich 90 collection includes three new designs available in three helmet styles, including the signature blue and red stripes on a white background worn by BMWs of two wheels or four on the racing circuit.
Of course, these helmets, being made by Ruby as they are, won't come cheap, with jaw-dropping prices ranging from $980 to $1,450. Of course there are more cost-effective ways to protect your noggin, but few more stylish.
