2014 BMW X3 X DRIVE 2.8I. THE VEHICLE IS LIKE NEW.

The BMW X3 comes in just two models: X3 xDrive28i and X3 xDrive35i. 28i models have a so-called TwinPower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine, displacing 2.0 liters and making 240 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. Peak torque is achieved at just 1,250 rpm, so this engine is very responsive; it move the X3 to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds and to a governed top speed of 130 mph. Then 35i models step up to a 300-hp, 3.0L turbocharged in-line six that's the choice for those who want the most performance. Both engines have Valvetronic variable valve timing and direct fuel injection, In either case, the X3 has a responsive and quick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission, and it includes an Eco Pro mode that--when the button is depressed--helps improve fuel economy by optimizing heating and air conditioning use, softening accelerator response and changing shift times. All models also have Auto Start/Stop, which shuts off the engine when waiting at stoplights--starting quickly when the brake is released; and Brake Energy Regeneration essentially saves fuel by using the alternator smartly. Fuel economy ratings are 21 mpg city, 28 highway with the 28i, or 19/26 with the 35i.Both versions of the X3 offer the xDrive intelligent all-wheel drive system, which works together with the stability control electronics and normally send 60 percent of torque to the rear wheels; a multi-disc clutch system can send up to 100 percent to the rear wheels when it's needed for traction--whether by a slippery road situation or high-performance driving. X3 models also have Servotronic speed-sensitive steering, although a Variable Sports Steering--essentially a variable-rack system--is optional. The X3 rides on run-flat tires. The interior of the X3 is set up like a wagon, only with a somewhat higher seating position and plenty of headroom. Ingress and egress are easier than in a sedan and the back seat can fit three across, albeit snugly. There's a ski pass-through and the rear seatback is split 40/20/40 so that it can be folded for any combination of passengers and cargo. The X3 also offers a number of small storage cubbies in the doors, the dash and center console. Standard equipment includes a power tailgate, 18-inch wheels, a universal garage-door opener, a panoramic moonroof, xenon headlamps, automatic climate control, dynamic cruise control, fog lamps, power front seats, driver seat memory and a BMW Professional sound system with HD Radio and satellite radio compatibility. BMW Assist eCall and TeleServices emergency roadside assistance and concierge services are now included, too. The options list is long and includes both major packages and a la carte items. Some of the larger packages include a Dynamic Handling Package (Dynamic Damper Control, Performance Control and Variable Sport Steering), a Driver Assistance Package (rearview camera with Top View and Park Distance Control), an M Sport Package (high-gloss roof rails, sport seats, an aero kit, an Anthracite headliner, Shadowline exterior trim, an M Sports leather steering wheel, paddle shifters, Dynamic Damper Control and 19-inch M light-alloy double spoke wheels), or the Technology Package (navigation, real-time traffic, a head-up display, BMW Apps).

Mercedes says it's tops in luxury sales for 2012, not BMW

Tue, 19 Feb 2013

It turns out that Mercedes-Benz North America has legitimate claim to being the top selling luxury nameplate in the US in 2012.
While sources such as Autodata had put BMW in the top spot, registration data from R.L. Polk shows that Mercedes customers registering new vehicles topped the Bavarian automaker in the most recent calendar year. Polk says Benz posted 274,123 registrations, compared with BMW's 268,498.
In terms of sales posted, BMW had bested Benz 281,460 to 274,134. But sales are recorded somewhat inconsistently from automaker to automaker. Some book the sales as soon as they are shipped from factory to dealer. There is perennial gamesmanship between the two German rivals, and the sales numbers suggest that BMW pushed out some extra sheetmetal to dealers in the last four weeks of the year.

Recharge Wrap-up: BMW Next 100 video, how Nissan "tops off" battery

Mon, Mar 14 2016

BMW explains the ideas behind its Vision Next 100 concept car that debuted at the Geneva Motor Show. As BMW celebrates its 100th birthday, it wants to look into the future rather than dwell on its past. This involves the digital and analog worlds working together "to create a seamless experience." Hence the "live geometry," wherein physical parts of the car move to translate digital information to the driver. The video also gets into the future of driving modes, like "Ease," for more autonomous driving, and "Boost," for when the driver wants to take control to enjoy some motoring the good, old-fashioned way. Check out the video above, and read more from Hybrid Cars. Nissan has managed to find a way to boost the range of EV batteries inspired by pouring a glass of beer. The automaker has found that after a full charge, one can wait a few minutes for subsequent "minicharges" to "top off" the battery. The voltage dips slightly, much as the foam does on a pint of beer, allowing the battery to accept some more juice. The result is an extra 0.7 percent of energy, which could mean just enough extra range to reach the next charging station. Read more from Automotive News. Hyundai has delivered its first Tucson Fuel Cell in Ontario, Canada. The lucky recipient is Joseph Cargnelli, Chief Technology Officer of Hydrogenics Corporation, a company based on hydrogen technology. The expansion into Ontario follows Hyundai's trial of six Tucson Fuel Cell vehicles in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Read more at Green Car Congress. Toyota has entered a public-private partnership to test an end-to-end hydrogen supply chain in Japan. The collaboration with the Kanagawa Prefectural Government, the municipal governments of the cities of Yokohama and Kawasaki and three private companies to create renewable hydrogen to power forklifts. It will use wind energy to electrolyze hydrogen, which will then be shipped to a factory, a vegetable and fruit market and two warehouses to be used in the fuel cell-powered vehicles. This supply chain is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by 80 percent compared to traditionally fueled forklifts. Read more from Toyota. Chairman says BMW will make 100,000 electric vehicles a year by 2020

Wed, Mar 19 2014

We know demand for the BMW i3 has been high, both in the US and Europe. It appears that BMW's crystal ball is showing a steady increase in interest between now and 2020. By that year, according to Norbert Reithofer, chairman of the board of management for BMW AG, the company expects to build 100,000 units a year. That's not quite as EVs many as Tesla is talking about for 2020 (500,000), but it would represent quite an increase from the roughly 20,000 units that the best-selling plug-in vehicles moved in 2013. Reithofer told Automotive News that plug-in vehicle production would steadily increase by 2018 before hitting full stride at the end of the decade. He also made sure to clarify that there was external pressure to make 100,000 EVs a year: "we will be forced to build them in a six digits figure to comply with stricter emission rules." The plug-in electric vehicles are just one part of BMW's effort to reduce emissions. In prepared remarks delivered at the company's annual accounts press conference (available in full below), Reithofer said, "Customer demand [for i3] is exceeding our expectations. ... We believe the electric motor is a future technology for zero-emission driving in urban areas. Battery technology will continue to progress. ... When it comes to emission-free long-distance driving, however, electric cars featuring hydrogen fuel cell technology offer great potential." He didn't say how many fuel cell cars BMW expects to make and sell in 2020, but BMW's collaboration with Daimler and Renault-Nissan is supposed to launch the "world's first affordable, mass-market fuel cell electric vehicles as early as 2017." Statement and presentation by Dr. Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, Annual Accounts Press Conference 2014 19.03.2014 Good morning, Ladies and Gentlemen! The core task of a company is to safeguard its future. This means we must ensure that our products and services are always inspiring our customers. We need to think ahead and continually take our business model to the next level. We also have to remain profitable so we can invest and bring new ideas to life. Our ambition of the BMW Group is: Always to consider the long term in all our planning, to follow our own path successfully, and to be a pioneer in our industry. Our business model is clear: Individual mobility in the premium segment.
