This is a highly-optioned M6 that is in great shape inside & out, It's LOADED with tons of Carbon Fiber, Heads-Up Display (0610), Navigation (0609), Voice Command (0620), Logic 7 Sound System (0677), Park Distance Control (0508), Bluetooth System (0639), Ski Bag (0464), Auto-Dimming Mirrors (0430), Real Time Traffic Information (06UH) and 10 other options. This is also a rare color combination of the Monaco Blue Metallic Exterior (a VERY dark blue - like a midnight blue) and the Silverstone interior(it looks like white in the pics - but it is light silver & very sharp); the contrast really pops visually and i have kept both exterior & interior in great shape - hand washing the exterior & hand cleaning the interior regularly using a full range of Griots products. The attached pictures don't do justice to how clean and sharp both exterior & interior are, i am not much a photographer and was armed with only an I-phone.

This M6 comes with TWO SETS OF WHEELS/TIRES - both the 18" (winter) package that is in the majority of the pics, which i bought new ($4,000+) in Jan 2011 and one of the 19" wheels/tires is also pictured - Importantly the tires on the 19" wheels have very little wear - they are 4 Continentals that I bought this past summer that have minimal wear. I have the complete mechanical history of this car going back to its first service at 1,349 miles in May of 2007 straight up to the scheduled service i just had completed on Feb 14th - ALL of the work on this car has been done at BMW service centers/dealers - there have never been any non-routine mechanical issues for this car & it has no excessive wear & tear of any kind - it is in great shape. This car came to me in immaculate condition and had no stone chips, no real flaws and i've worked hard to keep that condition as sharp as possible - the only exceptions are a minor scratch on the hood and an extremely small ding in one quarter panel.

I've saved the driving experience for last - this is an INCREDIBLY POWERFUL car that is absolute joy to drive, both the SMG (auto) & the paddle shift modes propel this car like it has just been launched, you can base the SMG on your preference (there is a range of how silky or how spartan you want your shifts)... the whole driving experience is this ideal blend between just enough road involvement and just the right amount of smooth. I've owned a half-dozen BMWs (including an 850i 6-speed in the first model year) and this 2007 M6 blows away any other car i've ever owned save for my current z06 Corvette. The topper is all the bells & whistles this car came comes with, while i didn't order this car new and not sure i would have added in all the options the original owner did - now that i've experienced the complete package for while i can't imagine taking any of the options away - - In short, this is the most-intuitive pure-drivers BMW i've ever driven.

In terms of payment i'm partial to bank-to-bank wire transfer with certified funds (cashier's check or money order might be possible, but not preferred). Deposit of $500 required within 24 hours of accepted offer and full payment due in 7 days, no exceptions.  Buyer assumes any shipping costs.

Senior VP Hildegard Wortmann says BMW's electric journey is just beginning

Fri, Mar 14 2014

Anyone who questions BMW's effort or sincerity on electrified vehicles should have a chat with Hildegard Wortmann, the German automaker's senior vice president over product management for automobiles and aftersales. I was fortunate to do just that at the Detroit North American International Auto Show earlier this year. ABG: Where might BMW go with electrified vehicles beyond your i3 urban EV and i8 high-performance hybrid sports car? "That [regulatory] train has left the station" - Hildegard Wortmann HW: I think a big advantage is that we now have two bookends: BMW i [green] and BMW M [high performance]. We can use those bookends to foster the BMW brand in total. Are electrified vehicles the answer to CAFE and European regulations? Is that the future? We don't know, but that [regulatory] train has left the station. To achieve all of these regulations worldwide, there is no way to do it without electrification. That is why the activities of BMW i are not just to launch new products. They are our build-up in competence for learning and gaining experience in electrification. We will use those learnings for the total BMW brand. Technology-wise, we now have a really good understanding of what to do, what not to do, how to work with this and how to get a lot of learnings from the infrastructure and everything that goes with it. And depending on how quickly the market takes off, we can scale it and use it across the range. We will use the competence we will have in vehicle electrification for more than just BMW i. There will be other derivatives and electrification of other products. ABG: Do you see BMW offering pure EVs with larger batteries for greater range? HW: That's a big feature of the Tesla. The question is to find the best balance [of range vs. battery size, weight and cost]. On the i3, we tried to have the right balance between how much range customers need for daily driving and how much battery we put in there. The market will show us. We have over a million kilometers driven by consumers in the Mini E and ActiveE and a fairly good understanding that those people are not driving that much. Putting a really big battery with all that weight into a car that is meant for urban mobility does not make sense. ABG: What about extended-range EVs beyond the i3's optional small range extender engine? "This whole EV movement is in its very early stages." HW: This whole EV movement is in its very early stages.

BMW recalling all 2000-06 3 Series models over airbags in US, 1.6M globally

Wed, 16 Jul 2014

We just can't seem to get away from recalls involving the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata. There are already millions of vehicles in need of repair as a result of these ever-expanding campaigns, and BMW is adding another 1.6 million worldwide. The Bavarian automaker is issuing a recall for certain 3 Series models, including 574,000 of them in the US, to replace the passenger-side, front airbag inflator.
Specifically, the campaign covers 3 Series models from the 2000 through 2006 model years built between May 1999 and August 2006. "It's only the E46" generation of cars that are affected, which are now two model revisions old, according to BMW of North America spokesperson Matt Russell, speaking to Autoblog.
These models suffer the same problem as the rest of the vehicles with the faulty inflators. It's possible for the part to rupture during airbag deployment and possibly spray shrapnel at the occupant. However, according to BMW, the automaker isn't aware of any actual cases of this happening in any of its vehicles.

A car writer's year in new vehicles [w/video]

Thu, Dec 18 2014

Christmas is only a week away. The New Year is just around the corner. As 2014 draws to a close, I'm not the only one taking stock of the year that's we're almost shut of. Depending on who you are or what you do, the end of the year can bring to mind tax bills, school semesters or scheduling dental appointments. For me, for the last eight or nine years, at least a small part of this transitory time is occupied with recalling the cars I've driven over the preceding 12 months. Since I started writing about and reviewing cars in 2006, I've done an uneven job of tracking every vehicle I've been in, each year. Last year I made a resolution to be better about it, and the result is a spreadsheet with model names, dates, notes and some basic facts and figures. Armed with this basic data and a yen for year-end stories, I figured it would be interesting to parse the figures and quantify my year in cars in a way I'd never done before. The results are, well, they're a little bizarre, honestly. And I think they'll affect how I approach this gig in 2015. {C} My tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015 it'll be as high as 73. Let me give you a tiny bit of background about how automotive journalists typically get cars to test. There are basically two pools of vehicles I drive on a regular basis: media fleet vehicles and those available on "first drive" programs. The latter group is pretty self-explanatory. Journalists are gathered in one location (sometimes local, sometimes far-flung) with a new model(s), there's usually a day of driving, then we report back to you with our impressions. Media fleet vehicles are different. These are distributed to publications and individual journalists far and wide, and the test period goes from a few days to a week or more. Whereas first drives almost always result in a piece of review content, fleet loans only sometimes do. Other times they serve to give context about brands, segments, technology and the like, to editors and writers. So, adding up the loans I've had out of the press fleet and things I've driven at events, my tally for the year is 68 cars, as of this writing. Before the calendar flips to 2015, it'll be as high as 73. At one of the buff books like Car and Driver or Motor Trend, reviewers might rotate through five cars a week, or more. I know that number sounds high, but as best I can tell, it's pretty average for the full-time professionals in this business.
