Vehicle Description
WE ARE PLEASE TO OFFER THIS DESIRABLE ULTRA LOW MILEAGE EXAMPLE OF WHAT IS DESTINED TO BE A TIMELESS CLASSIC IN THE CHAPTERS OF BMW HISTORY! ONLY 8,800 E60 BMW M5s WERE SOLD IN THE USA (2005-2010).

THIS PARTICULAR EXAMPLE OF THE ILLUSTRIOUS BMW M5 HAS ALWAYS BEEN METICULOUSLY MAINTAINED AND THE CONDITION OF THE CAR ATTESTS TO THIS. NO HISTORY OF ACCIDENTS AND ALWAYS CAREFULLY STORED IN THE WINTERS WITH NO BAD WEATHER DRIVING. THE EXTERIOR IS VIRTUALLY FLAWLESS AND THE INTERIOR IS SIMPLY AS NEW THROUGHOUT, NEVER SMOKED IN AND ALL LEATHER SURFACES ARE EXCEPTIONAL. THIS M5 DRIVES JUST AS IT SHOULD WITH NO SHAKES OR RATTLES AND BLISTERING POWER FROM THE 500 HP V10. THE HANDLING IS SUPERB AND THE BRAKES ARE SIMPLY AMAZING. I HAVE PERSONALLY PUT THIS CAR THROUGH ITS PACES AND WAS IMPRESSED WITH THE POWER, BALANCE AND FEEL OF THIS AWESOME VEHICLE.

DELIVERED NEW OCTOBER 31ST 2005 (THIS IS AN EARLY US PRODUCTION CAR) AND WAS ALWAYS LOVINGLY CARED FOR AS A SPECIALTY CAR RATHER THAN USED AS DAILY TRANSPORT. THE EXTERIOR IS "SILVER GRAY METALLIC" WITH "SILVERSTONE EXTENDED LEATHER" WHICH IS A VERY PALE AND SUBTLE LIGHT GRAY. THE ORIGINAL MSRP WAS $88090.00 WITH OPTIONS IN ADDITION TO THE HUNDREDS OF STANDARD FEATURES AS FOLLOWS: SATELLITE RADIO, LOGIC7 PREMIUM SOUND, ACTIVE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS, NAVIGATION SYSTEM, 6 DISC CHANGER, REAR SPOILER, PDC (PARK DISTANCE CONTROL). UNIQUE TO THE M5 ARE THE OPTIONAL ACTIVE SEATS WHICH CHANGE THE BOLSTER SUPPORT IN RELATION TO THE CORNERING FORCES (CAN BE TURNED OFF). ALSO UNIQUE TO THE M5 IS THE 7 SPEED SMG TRANSMISSION WHICH IS A TRULY OUTSTANDING AND RELIABLE ENGINEERING FEAT DERIVED DIRECTLY FROM FORMULA 1 RACING. ALTHOUGH A NO COST OPTION ANOTHER FEATURE OF NOTE IS THE REAL ALUMINIUM DASH AND CONSOLE TRIM WHICH IS MORE SPORTING THAN THE OFTEN SEEN WOOD TRIM ON OTHER EXAMPLES. THE ONLY DEVIATION FROM STOCK IS A MODIFIED REAR EXHAUST SYSTEM WHICH RETAINS STOCK LOOKING TAIL PIPES WHILE GIVING THE CAR A MENACING RACE CAR LIKE HOWL AT HIGHER RPM.

A review of the new for 2006 BMW M5 at the time puts together the follwing assesment of the cars ability to produce supercar performance in a 4 door sedan package. How does the M5 do it? Horsepower: 507 to be exact, generated by a silky-smooth 5.0-liter V-10 that loves to rev (redline is 8200 rpm) and, when combined with BMW's third-generation 7-speed sequential M gearbox (SMG), serves up instant acceleration with the flick of a steering-wheel-mounted paddle. Yet like the V-8-powered car it replaces, this fourth-generation M5 effortlessly blends sports-car performance with commuter-car comfort.

Naturally, as the only sedan on earth to feature a V-10 and a 7-speed sequential transmission, much attention focuses on the M5's high-tech powertrain. As well it should because they work exceedingly well together. The 90-degree V-10 is a clean-sheet design, engineered specifically for this car (and the M6) and not based on any existing BMW powerplant, including the BMW Formula 1 engine. It's also normally aspirated, unlike the competing Audi RS 6 and Mercedes-Benz E55 AMG powerplants, meaning it generates power through high engine rpm and its 10 cylinders rather than turbos or superchargers.

Accomplishing such output without forced induction is no small feat, requiring some sophisticated engineering, especially in a V-10 that revs so freely. Like the M3, the M5's engine employs individual throttle valves for each of its 10 cylinders. They're tied to an electronically controlled throttle-by-wire system that ensures immediate response and adjusts each throttle butterfly individually in as little as 120 milliseconds. This works in concert with BMW's bi-VANOS variable valve timing for seamless power delivery anywhere in the rev range. To cope with the extreme heat and combustion pressure associated with high-rpm loads, the crankcase utilizes a racing-derived bedplate design that integrates cast-iron inserts into the aluminum casing for improved stiffness.

Also helping produce those 507 horses and 384 lb.-ft. of torque is enough computing power to put an M5 on the moon. The ECU alone contains three 32-bit processors that perform a staggering 200 million calculations per second, controlling anything and everything related to engine performance. This includes, among other things, the throttle valves, bi-VANOS, fuel mixture, emissions and spark. Plus it acts as the central portal for all information traveling between the engine and smaller control units managing systems like SMG, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), ABS and Electronic Damper Control (EDC). An added benefit of all this computerized wizardry is the console-mounted Power button, which serves up three settings: P400 for just 400 bhp, P500 for the M5's full 507 bhp or P500 Sport for 507 bhp accompanied by noticeably quicker throttle response.

2019 BMW M850i xDrive: How it compares on paper with other GT coupes

Wed, Jul 11 2018

Although the hot new vehicles for the rich seem to mainly comprise SUVs and supercars, the neglected luxury GT coupe segment is starting to see some life again. The latest to add a spark to this set is the 2019 BMW M850i xDrive. It goes on sale later this year, and revives the 8 Series that's been dead since the 1990s. The first version available to Americans will be one with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8, with other versions likely following. Before it launches, we wanted to get a lay of the grand-touring land and see how the new BMW stacks up to the competition in performance, practicality and price. While some of these models have higher-performance or more-affordable iterations, we picked the versions that would be the closest match to this 8 Series model. They include the 2019 Lexus LC 500, 2018 Mercedes-Benz SL 550, 2018 Mercedes-Benz S 560 Coupe and the 2018 Maserati GranTurismo. We will also provide some short summaries on our experiences with these cars, but to get a full picture of each model, be sure to check out their full reviews. And if you want to compare any of these cars with models you don't see here, be sure to try out our car comparison tool. Engines, transmissions and performance On paper, the BMW M850i xDrive is clearly the performer of the group. It has the most power and torque at 523 horsepower and 553 pound-feet. Coupled with all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic, the car is able to overcome its relatively portly 4,478-pound curb weight to hit 60 mph in a scant 3.6 seconds. That's more than half a second quicker than the lightest car in the group, the Mercedes-Benz SL550, which weighs 4,012 pounds. The other three vehicles are in the low- to mid-4-second range to 60 mph. Though the Maserati is the slowest to 60 mph, it does boast the highest top speed of 186 mph. The M850i and SL 550 are electronically limited to 155 mph, while the Lexus is limited to 168 mph. The Mercedes S 560 has the lowest top speed at an electronically limited 130 mph. View 52 Photos Of interest is that there's a 50/50 split among these cars between using a pair of turbos, and having none at all. The BMW and Mercedes resort to forced induction, whereas the Lexus and Maserati choose to stay naturally aspirated. This is likely why the Germans break 500 pound-feet of torque, while the others don't make it to 400. Also interesting is the spread of gear quantity. The Maserati has just six ratios to choose from, and the Lexus has a whopping 10.

2015 Morgan Aero 8 shows a host of upgrades to the Swiss crowds [w/video]

Tue, Mar 3 2015

With over 1,250 units made, the Morgan Aero model line has been in production for 15 years – just a blink of an eye for the Morgan Motor Company. The automaker has been in business for over a century and has had a tendency to keep its vehicles in production for decades with frequent upgrades keeping them modern. At the Geneva Motor Show, the company is shaking up the range with a thorough revision for the 2015 Aero 8. Hidden beneath the vintage styling is an improved aluminum chassis with better torsional rigidity and an improved suspension setup. Power comes exclusively from a 4.8-liter V8 from BMW making 367 horsepower, and the Bavarian brand also supplies a new limited-slip differential to get power down at the rear. Buyers can choose between a six-speed manual and a six-speed automatic gearbox. At first glance, the latest Aero 8 bares all the hallmarks of Morgan's classic style with a long hood, prominent shoulders and short rear. The new version is exclusively available as a convertible, although, as these photos show, an optional hardtop is available. The aluminum body is also slightly altered with better aerodynamics up front, and the most obvious change comes at the rear where there's now a clamshell design. The interior also received a new, though still retro-looking dashboard design, and Morgan is touting its improved air conditioning system that reportedly works better in hot weather. Buyers wanting to eschew some of the supple leather inside can opt for a set of carbon seats, instead. With the introduction of the latest Aero 8, Morgan is ending production of both the Aero SuperSports and Coupe in April. Production of the new model then commences in the fourth quarter. Check it out on the Swiss show floor in the gallery above, and see the convertible in motion on some snowy British roads below. Introducing the new Morgan Aero 8 Over 1250 Aero platform cars delivered since 1st generation launch in 2000. New Aero 8 signifies return to soft top motoring within the current Aero range. Significant changes to the aluminium chassis, suspension and vehicle aerodynamics. Powered by a 4.8 litre V8 BMW engine producing 367bhp. Available with 6 speed manual or automatic transmission (with paddle shift). New Hand sculpted aluminium body and revised interior styling. Largest options list of any Morgan sports car to date. The Aero SuperSports and Coupe cease production in April 2015. Production begins during quarter 4 of this year.

Is BMW ready to increase i8 production?

Fri, Nov 21 2014

The BMW i8 plug-in hybrid is really fast. But the car is getting to customers really slowly. The German automaker might be doing something about that. Bimmer executive Ian Robertson, speaking with reports at the Los Angeles Auto Show this week, commented on the high demand for the super-PHEV and said the company may step up production in Germany, Automotive News Europe says. That's because the wait list for the i8 is approaching 18 months in some global markets. And Robertson would like to get that timeframe down to about six months. No details were disclosed about how fast the i8 is being produced or how much faster that production rate may get. The i8, which retails for about $135,000, started sales in Europe in June and in the US two months later. As for the smaller, slower i3 electric vehicle, BMW is making about 2,000 units a month, and wait lists are down to about four months. Part of the reason for that is because BMW shifted distribution rates for that model towards the US to meet higher-than-expected demand from stateside consumers and slow German sales. Through the end of October in the US, BMW had sold almost 4,300 i3 vehicles and 271 i8 models, including 204 i8 units last month alone.
