2006 Bmw M5 Sedan 5.0l V10 - Excellent Cosmetic And Mechanical Condition on 2040-cars
Plano, Texas, United States
You are bidding on a 2006 BMW M5 Sedan equipped with a 500 HP V10 engine paired with a smooth 7-speed SMG III transmission. TRULY A NO RESERVE AUCTION The M5 features several Formula One-inspired engine and transmission controls. Launch Control allows maximum performance standing starts automatically. The Getrag SMG III single-clutch semi-automatic transmission has the option of changing to either automated or manual, as well as the speed at which shifts are completed. There are 11 shift programs in total - what BMW calls Drivelogic. Manual shifting can be done with either a console shifter or the shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel. The car also features a "M" button on the navigation panel which offers access to three power modes: P400 for daily driving (limits the engine to 395 bhp to achieve better gas mileage and efficiency), P500 for power (unleashes the full 500 bhp), and P500 S for full power and sharpest throttle response. P400 is the default start-up mode; the P500 and P500 S modes are selected using iDrive and by simply pressing the "M" button. The car drives like new and shifts seamlessly. The acceleration has to be experienced to be believed (0-62 mph in 4.5) with a top speed of 205 mph. The car has a BRAND NEW factory OEM clutch, rotors and pads, as well as a brand new battery. The inspection was also done last week, so it is good until March 2015. All fore mentioned services were performed professionally within the past 40 days - calling them "brand new" is completely accurate! More importantly, the car has been exceptionally well maintained! The body is in excellent condition. All original paint is near flawless, as it has been garaged for its entire life. The interior is also in outstanding condition. The leather is soft and well conditioned, with no cracks whatsoever (see picture for scratch in passenger seat). The black suede headliner luxurious and in mint condition. The dashboard and all door panels are sill near perfect. All electronic features (instrument cluster, power windows/sunroof/seats, radio, BMW iDrive control knob) function as they should. All pictures were taken yesterday and represent the exact condition the vehicle is currently in. Please rely on these photos to determine the condition of the vehicle. China probing German automakers over spare parts
Sat, 26 Jul 2014The Chinese market has proven to be a boon to German luxury automakers. However, the way that the companies have allegedly been controlling their supply of spare parts has begun to draw the ire of the nation's government. According to insiders speaking to Bloomberg, officials from the country's economic planning organization have opened a probe into Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and some Japanese carmakers over claimed price inflation and limiting supply.
Specifically, the investigation centers around two aspects of how the companies do business, according to Bloomberg. Investigators want to know whether the original equipment component makers are able to sell spare parts only to automaker-authorized dealers or if they are also available to independent shops. There is also the issue of whether the price markup on replacement pieces is too high. The tight controls could be partially explained by China's reputation for producing counterfeit parts.
Evidently, the investigators haven't checked parts prices at car dealers elsewhere in the world. At least in the US, paying more at the dealer for factory components just goes along with owning a vehicle. If evidence of price fixing is found, the companies could face fines the equivalent of millions of dollars, according to Bloomberg.
BMW CS reinterpretation proves retro can be sexy [w/video]
Fri, 28 Mar 2014Designer David Obendorfer doesn't work for BMW, but perhaps the German automaker should give him a call. His CS Vintage Concept shows a singular ability to understand the brand's classic style and reinterpret it for today. He isn't some amateur, either. Obendorfer has an industrial design degree and has been penning the interiors and exteriors of yachts from the Officina Italiana Design for five years, which counts luxury shipbuilders like Riva and Sanlorenzo among its clients. His website shows a real passion and knack for modernizing '60s and '70s European cars, too.
Obendorfer prefers to reimagine classic automotive styles. "Retro cars are not copies of their predecessors or renovated specimens, rather they are carefully studied reconsiderations, strongly rooted in contemporary style," he tells Autoblog. For the CS Vintage Concept, he worked to update the looks of the seminal BMW 2000CS and its E9 chassis while placing them on a modern platform. Obendorfer's inspiration comes from his belief that the later CS models' design is partially responsible for defining BMW styling, with its shark-nose front and four round headlights.
The CS Vintage Concept's shape starts with a jutting hood and a quartet of LED headlights, but the whole design really comes together in profile. The Hofmeister Kink at the rear pillar with the BMW Roundel is a nice nod to the originals, yet the proportions still find the perfect fusion of classic and modern. The interior is minimalist, with a vast expanse of wood for the dashboard at first glance, but the latter opens to expose the car's infotainment system.
Toyota passes BMW as most valuable car brand
Tue, 21 May 2013An annual market study of the strongest brands across various industries has seen Toyota leapfrog BMW as the world's most valuable automotive brand. Toyota's 2013 brand value rose to $24.5 billion, up 12 percent versus 2012 numbers according to market research company Millward Brown's BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands list. BMW's value fell slightly; down by 2 percent to a total of $24 billion.
Mercedes-Benz finished in third place in the automotive category, up 11 percent from 2012 for a valuation of $18 billion. Honda ($12.4 billion, down 2 percent) and Nissan ($10.2 billion, up 3 percent) rounded out the top five for the category. Volkswagen was the only other auto brand that finished in the top 100 overall, in 100th place. Audi made the greatest percentage gain over 2012, up 18 percent to $5.5 billion, but finished outside of the top 100.
Technology companies dominated the overall list, with Apple, Google and IBM ranking one through three. Couture brand Prada was 2013's biggest gainer, rising by 63 percent over 2012.
